Seamus Coleman

Fantastic player and I love watching him play. He has improved so much over the past 18 months and this season he has been an absolute revelation.

Nah, I'd have to disagree. Coleman has improved a lot defensively over the last season or so. That isn't a weakness in the way it used to be. Plus it's not like Rafael is flawless now either.

Rafael was roughly on par with Zabaleta as the best right back in the PL last season, but Coleman is the best by some distance this year.

Coleman has to sustain this form and even if he does Rafael probably has more potential than him. That said, right now Coleman is better, I think.

Going to have to agree to disagree on this one, mate. To me, I think Rafa seems quite visibly more solid defensively, particularly in his one vs one defending. I also think he has more pedigree at a younger age, given the way he has completely shut out some of the best wide men about. I don't think Coleman can claim to have any such pedigree.

Coleman is a greater goal threat in the final third, not sure about what the statistics say in terms of crossing but Rafael isn't weak in that area, but then again neither is Coleman. Defensively.. haven't really paid enough attention to Coleman, he'd definitely be good enough to play for a top side but whether he's an all round superior player to Rafael is questionable, not to mention Rafael is a proven performer who has experience at the highest level and is still so young.

What a gun he has become. If Sagna leaves this is the player we need to sign.

That's a really, really good goal! £60,000 from Sligo was it?

Aye, fair play to Moyes. Picking up little gems like Coleman was something he really excelled at which is why i don't think you'll have any cause for concern in the transfer window once he has his scouting system in place and set up accordingly.

Also what I think. But I wasn't saying it especially to big up Moyes, more just to amaze at the fact a guy with his talent could cost so little.

Yeah, i realised that. It's funny as you'd think we could easily ask for 10m+. 6 million would be 100 times what we paid for him...

That was my reasoning too, crazy how far he's come. Anyway it's nice to see he's doing well, he's evidently talented but he majorly seems to be a hard working young guy.

Coleman is better than Rafael this season.

But Rafael will have a great future......Coleman maybe too.

We're needing the money on so many other positions in the team!!!!!!!!!!!!

No maybe about it, he will. Might be blinded a bit by green-tinted specs but he looks like he has all the talent to be one of Europe's top full backs.

Exciting as an Ireland fan.

Pisses me off that Everton got him so cheap. Teams in the LOI really undersell themselves

In fairness, I think the attitude here is more "We can't deny this lad a chance to play in England."

That's fair enough, and it's the way it should be but I don't think Everton would pull out based on a deal giving Sligo a cut of a sell-on fee. You've got to think about your club too. Such a cut could be peanuts for Everton but even a small percentage of any sell on could be huge for a club in the LOI.

Ireland's best player these days?
Yeah, only McCarthy would really start to come close in terms of how well they're playing and the level of their club.

I don't think McCarthy can even claim to be near the same level Coleman is at right now. Head and shoulders the top performing Irish footballer this year.

Yeah, McCarthy is still imposing himself onto the side, and is just starting to get into a proper box-to-box role with us. Coleman is one of our best players these days...

2011/2012 - Decent player.
2012/2013 - Most improved player in the team by far, Great player.
2013/2014 - Excellent player, one of our best.

Remarkable rise and such a down to earth lad, love him.

He's really easy to like. No fecking about, no off field shit, no diving, no lack of hard work. Would be a fan favourite wherever he played and don't take this as a dig at Everton but he looks like he's be at home at the very highest level. Do you think he'd look out of place on this seasons form at Barca, Madrid or Munich?

What i take as a dig is when people continuously use what ifs with us when we have been playing well all season and are on course to be playing at the highest level if we continue (which will be hard, i understand that, but we have a good chance). I think he'd take the piss at Barca, Dani Alves lite.

Irish Independent saying we're gonna make a £25m bid for him in the summer.

Price is probably over the top but that sounds like us. :nervous: Better defender than Rafael this season, better going forward than Rafael at his best too. He is however a couple of years older.

Actually says that'll be our first offer but Moyes "will have to be considerably more generous to persuade Martinez to sell".

Anything above the 16m mark would be ridiculous.
