Man Utd 2:0 Everton
The level of his passing today would get you benched on a pub team. Everything was the wrong weight. Diabolically bad.

It's like playing with 10 men when he doesn't score. He doesn't even win headers in midfield, despite being the tallest one out there.

Please West Ham, you're our only hope!

Nah his passing wasn't particularly as bad as anyone else's (and pretty much everyone's was poor)

He also did play a lovely through ball in the first half and then one in the second over the top to Bruno.

He’s a frustrating player. In theory, he has a lot of great attributes. Covers the pitch well, good eye for goal and, as he showed today, he can play some really top class passes. The Garnacho one in the first half was a really high tariff pass.

Unfortunately, despite the fact I thought he had a reasonable game, he still only managed to play 26 passes, with a less than 75% accuracy rate, playing in CM for Manchester United at home to Everton. Needs must at present but finding a metronome midfielder, to work with Mainoo, has to be an absolute priority in the summer.

Only Onana had a worse pass percentage from our team. 73.1% from McTominay. What I will say is he tried a few more ambitious passes today than he normally does but he didnt get them right and all he really did today was won a few balls in the air

Even the pass to Garnacho that resulted in the second penalty was terrible. It was too slow and under hit causing Garnacho to slow down. Ended well enough. Even the passes that hit a teammate are often poor quality.

Less is more with Mctominay, 20 minutes here and there to try and get a goal and he looks indispensable. But when you start picking him regularly it underlines he’d struggle as a starter at teams like West Ham and Everton.

It will ve funny/ tragic if he stays in the club after all those rumours how new regime will be ruthless and demanding.

By far biggest myth about McT is that he is some kind of warrior who is "United through and through" and "bleeds for the club". He joggs around most of the game and dives in reckless tackles then and there which is enough for fans to give him that "warrior" label.
If meaning "United through and through" is about running and tackling then Dalot, Fred (while he was here), Garnacho, Mejbri, Pellistri, Amrabat, Casemiro, Bruno...... are way ahead of him.

You mentioned Cantona, Rooney and Keane. Yeah, they were fighters but at most they were good players and did great in their positions. You think that Real, City or Barca fans care how much Rodri, Walker, Vinicius, Rudiger, Lewa and others "love the club"? They don't give a feck. You are either good for the club or not. McT is not.

Like I said; I am a romantic when it comes to certain players of our club; that usually means a fairly biased view.

Scott may no be mas good as a I make him out be, just has he may not be as bad as the rest of you make him out to be.

All I know is that he has 'showed' up when other players have not.

Showed very good composure for the Rashford goal.

Looked fecked after 35 mins, shocked he lasted the full game, but kept making the runs despite his technical limitations. That one he missed late on after a 70 yard sprint, was thinking that was our last chance.

Whatever you say about him he has an incredible ability to get on the end of things.

Went missing most of extra time only to show up with an assist and a good clearance for the winner. Don't know how he does but hopefully it'll continue.

The pass was good enough for Rashford to get his shot away, at least he didnt overhit it... But it wasnt great. He also missed 2 very good chances. But he did get the first goal which was important

He makes meaningful contributions often enough to not be anywhere near our primary concern.. I'd look at half a dozen other positions/players to improve before questioning his position as a backup midfielder.

Credit where its absolutely due, guy could barely walk at the end and was asking to be subbed but won a vital header in our own box that led to the winner, fvcking incredible resilience, beginning to think he needs to stay at this club as he never ever gives up.

This season has been such a weird turn. He's still the same player technically, and in his positional defensive play - both of which can be infuriating. But the way he's suddenly become this finisher and decisive player in the final third, I really didn't see coming. Previously we would have to make arguments he's worth sticking around because he's homegrown, cheap, "flexible" - all sorts of things that aren't much to do with tangible offerings on the football pitch. But when he can make a difference to games it's a completely different case for him, you can overlook the poor plays.

Ten hag has transcended him, even defensively. He's still limited but I'm bordering on wanting to just keep him now. I've never thought McT and Dalot could turn it around. The latter just looks like a beast under this coach.

It's about third or fourth game this season that he should be disappointed to not get a hat-trick.

And made a full length sprint to be up with the play as Amad was hitting it, when he could barely walk .

Attitude matters.

This.

We give up the midfield more than we do already when he plays but in games like these, he will make decisive plays and be a good nuisance.

It's why his only role in a decent team is as a gadget player to throw on later in games. He can do that well, just never needs to be starting or even in a rotation for a team that aspires to win things.

Goal, assist. Running for 120 minutes and battling. Very good from McTominay. Shows what kind of player he is.

This role is where he’s great as a squad option. Carries a goal threat, is a big unit, great engine and it masks his issues when you play him DM and he constantly gets caught out of position, on the ball or just making bad decisions in much riskier areas.

This is the kind of game that's actually ideal for him, when it becomes real end-to-end stuff. He's incredibly fit and can make intense runs into the box well into extra time. Great performance.

Great game from Scott today, and did a lot more than just pop up with a goal. He suddenly learned to pass the ball today, and got on it and was finding teammates frequently. When he played the ball to Rashford, I had no confidence at all that he would progress that situation - but to weight a pass as he did in such circumstances was brilliant and unexpected to me. Like Antony, he’s a fighter.

4.8 season rating still.

A lot of the most vociferously anti McT critics, in the greater online space as well as here, just find it very difficult to give the guy unqualified credit. "if he doesn't score he is useless"

29/36 passes
2 Key passes
3 shots
2 aerials won
2 tackles won
4 clearances
1 interception

From Whoscored, where he is also the currently(sometimes this changes when they finalize the stats) highest rated player from the match at 8.3.

But the focus from that will probably be on his low passing numbers even through it has been established again and again throughout the season that whoever plays the non DM or Bruno role consistently has a low pass total due to the tactical choices of Ten Hag.

I think, that is because apart from the result, we haven't seen a particularly good game today. I get it, to win like that against Liverpool is great and I thought it was a very entertaining game but I haven't seen a match that we won because we were so good. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't criticize McTom today, he had one of his better games but reading the "Fantastic" and "Tremendous" posts feels kind of misplaced to me. But thats probably just me.

No, he wasn't fantastic today, he looked gassed after about 30 mins and had a couple of noticeable poor moments when he lost the ball that could have led to goals for Liverpool. He kept going though and ended up making an extremely positive contribution to the match overall. People say we can't control the game with McT in midfield (it is the new hiding from the ball meme critique), what Utd team have these guys been watching this season, there is no attempt to control the game, regardless of who plays.

A 6/10 game from McT usually gets treated like a 3 or 4 on here.
