He's a midtable Premier League player at best. At his worst, he's perfectly suited to a club who are struggling to stay up. He has no business being at Manchester United. No, he isn't good enough to be a squad player. Should have been sold many years ago. Bizarre that he has an army of fans.

He has the reputation as a hard worker who will bleed for the shirt and fights for the badge. That helps attracting fans.

If a player does not have that reputation he should be nowhere near Manchester United or any club for that matter.
Some fans seem to like big money signings that are past it and get huge wages....work that one out?

He’s so woeful technically. He would score some goals and some simpletons who pretend to know football mention that to death to mask his glaring flaws. Absolutely dreadful footballer.

The definition of mediocre. Already dreading having to endure another season of him at United.

Fans who dont watch maybe. He doesnt work hard to get on the ball or involved in games. Compared to other players picked as a deep midfielder which we use 2 of, he doesnt even have the ball winning stats that would suggest he works hard. He covers distance from the deep midfield position he might end up in, to getting into positions to try and score. Thats the only part that you might say he works hard at, distance coverage. 1 out of 3 is a soft worker no different to a midfielder who only works hard getting on the ball and passing it around and doesnt do lots defensively or cover lots of ground to support the striker.

Ronaldo did not have the repuation to work hard on the pitch. He works hard off the pitch but wont chase a full back. He still did more than fine for Manchester United. Footballing ability is still more important than hard work. I rather have a player with a lot of ability who isnt known as a hard worker. Not being a hard worker doesnt mean that a player is lazy. There is something inbetween.

When a player is described as hard working, it is usually not a good thing. Wout Weghorst is described as hard working. Scott McT is described as hard working. That just means they dont have any other stand out quality. Wayne Rooney worked harder than anyone else but nobody would describe him as a hard working striker.

Yeah, that’s it. Nothing to do with scoring multiple important goals.

It helps but most of his goals came last season. He scored 7 goals out of his 19 career league goals last season. All competitions he scored 10 goals out of his 32 all time goals last season.

Before last season he already had fans because he is seen as a hard worker who also gets the club. He didnt have those fans because he scored so many (important) goals. Im sure he got more fans with all the goals he scored last season. Im not even against keeping him as a bench option because of all those goals he scored but i am still not a fan of the footballer Scott McTominay.
