His improvement since Mourinho left has been incredible. Ole has to take a-lot of credit for that.

We just need a player who controls and runs the game when we have the ball and we are solid.

Not really. Thats just natural development.

Biggest Credit goes to Mourinho giving him his debut and persisting with him, despite many fans saying he was shit.

But Ole's deployed him in a different position allowing him to tap into more of his potential?

Without any doubt. Also Ole made him key player and gave consistent run of games, something he didn't get under Jose. Maybe because he was young or maybe he had too much trust on Matic.

Both Mourinho and Solskjaer deserve credit for McTominay. Mourinho brought him into the team and gave him decent minutes and actually treated him well. Giving him that pretend Manager's award one year was a bit weird but it probably meant a lot to McTominay and was infinitely better than he how he treated other young players like when he complained about having to play them in pre-season.

However under Mourinho McTominay was given a fairly restricted role in the team. He would do his job defensively and that was it. Solskjaer has got him playing like a complete midfielder. He's getting forward more, dribbling more, his passing has more range and attacking intent behind it. He looks like twice the player than he was at this stage last year. I don't consider that normal development, I consider that a massive leap forward.

Last night he was very good again. I was nervous after his early yellow but he wasn't phased at all and ended up being our second best player after Rashford.

Scotland fans don't think he should be starting for them

 He's most likely an idiotic Rangers fan.

McTominay and McGinn should be locked on in Scotlands midfield. It's who plays with them that's the issue.

There are fans up here that are utter clueless. A Scottish football podcast I listen to basically said Scott is a basic player and all he does is pass the ball side to side and hides when the going gets tough. Absolute fecking mince and they clearly don't watch the guy.

Absolutely, totally agree. I think I would be playing the two of them and McGregor, even though his form has dipped a wee bit.

I'd have Christie ahead of McGregor to help add goal threat to the side.

However I really liked the look of Gilmour for Chelsea yesterday.

Not really. Ole has clearly elevated him. Anyone can see that. Mourinho used him
as a pawn in his battle with the Board.

Forgot about Christie, aye he's quality too and I think I would start him.

Aye I think he's an exciting prospect Gilmour, be good to see him in the upcoming squad as those games are basically gonna be warm ups for the play off next year. I'm glad a few of the older players have retired now as we need to be looking to give these younger lads a chance.

I think it's fair to say that he was playing nervously under Mourinho. He was pretty inexperienced at that point and often new players will play within themselves while fitting into the squad. Similarly how Williams is playing at the moment.

The killer for Mctominay was when he played him at CB in a 3 man defence. The poor lad had no idea what to do, and his confidence was shot.
Funnily enough if we played him there now, I think he'd look immense also. He looks a MAN now, he's barking at his team mates and opposition, he's flying in with meaty tackles and receiving them, but getting straight back up and cracking on unfazed.

He's quickly becoming one of my favourite players.

And yet even McTominay himself disagrees with you. But yeah, you must be right!

"I don't want to speak too much about previous managers, but Jose's very special to me," McTominay explained.
"He still keeps in contact with me now and keeps in touch with me after games and different things like that.
So he'll always have a special place in mine and my family's heart because he was the one who brought you here, he was the one who trusted you, he's the one who had belief in you.
I owe a tremendous amount of credit to him, because if it wasn't for him, I might not necessarily be sat in this seat."

Wow, asked about another manager and he praised him. Inspirational stuff, thanks so much for sharing but I had seen this already ;)

Yeah, I’ll believe your opinion instead. Thanks. You made my day!

Why does Pogba have to been brought up in every thread? Any chance to bash him.

When young players with talent are given chances over an extended period of time, they'll improve. It's not difficult to grasp.

talk about an agenda. It wasn’t even a criticism of Pogba.

He's better than Herrera though. Far more consistent.
I keep reading this. What's the source? You can hardly imagine how happy I'd be to give credit to SAF instead of some portuguese coach for bringing our new midfield dominator to the fore.

Further down in the article there’s a clip from the Munich memorial in 2018, where Fergie gives Scott a bit of special attention, and then right after talks to Mourinho and seems to be pointing towards Scott.

And we also know he put in some effort to make sure McTominay picked Scotland.

Are you serious? It was clear as day he played him to make a point that he wanted new players. Remember the game he bizarrely started him as a CB? What was that all about!

Look, it’s great he played him and gave him a platform but he also restricted him, I feel. Ole has clearly given him more freedom on the pitch and he’s excelled. He’s more of a box-to-box type player, however under Mourinho he simply never enjoyed that freedom. His game has improved so much since Ole arrived.

As the season goes on it seems more of a shame we let Herrera slip away, a midfield two of him and McTominay sounds like it would've been quality on paper.

.

So Ole gets criticism when players are not improving but doesn't get the credit when certain players improve?

How does that work?

Where is Lingard's natural development, Perreira ?

Clearly Ole has said to him, you are first choice CM this season and he is proving to fans why Ole had trust in him

Ive been one of his biggest critics, always felt Mourinho propelled him into the deep end as means of showing the board he promotes from within..never have i doubted his attitude and spirit, but boy he was impressive last night, strong, breaking up play and playing a pivotable role, good on him, lets hope he keeps developing. Love it when im wrong :-)

You can't seriously think that Mourinho used him as a pawn?
Playing him at CB in a 3 man defence away to West Ham in a must win match, when we had Bailly and Darmian on the bench - then stating after the match "we have no good defenders"... yes 2000% i'd say that was a political move.

He then did it again at home to Southampton I think it was? and he got subbed at HT. We didn't see Scott again all season.

Yeah, ive been on the fence with him for a while but hes actually been incredible over the last week. I think hes claimed that position as his. Well done Scott and Ole.

Seeing him play as CB was nonsense. He doesnt look like a holding midfielder either. I do wonder if hes growing more into the role with Pogbas absence. I do think 4231 wasnt working for him (or many of the team).
352, 433 works however for our attack / midfield.

Loved the clip of him barking orders at Fred towards the end of the game.

Yeah. I'm serious.
No, it's not clear at all that OGS has given him more freedom, only that Mctominay is improving every month, as one would expect from a player of his age in his position.
You claim Mourinho restricted McTominay, even though the player himself goes over and beyond to praise and recognise his former manager. :wenger: Laughable really.

Lets not re-write history.

Mourinho was desperate for a ball playing centre back. Neither of the bench options provided him that.

Everything was proven to be correct in the months after Mourinho left.
