SARS CoV-2 coronavirus / Covid-19 (No tin foil hat silliness please)

A girl in front of me queued up at Tesco for 45 minutes to buy one item. Then there were couples (some 65+) shopping together and people with teenagers who should a)Be doing schoolwork and b)old enough not needing to go to the shop with mummy. People are brainless.
I noticed that too mother’s and daughters taking up two spots and then walking around the store together. Just stay in the car for god’s sake.

Very distressing video but captures the situation in Spain and perhaps your country soon.

Sedating people over 65 to die and use respirators for younger people.

This is my worry for my mum, you know you can't be there on the ward and many will be left to die as there just isn't the number of staff or equipment in nearly all countries.

Christ that’s horrendous.
“Just a flu” shame on anyone that pedalled that shit

Depressing as it is has there been any 'data modelling' that is predicting the end number of deaths in Italy or Spain? Vallance was saying they 20,000 would be a 'good outcome' for Uk a few days back, but I think that might be worst case now.

And the truth comes out. Reckless family spreading bullshit. She died of a heart attack and had clear underlying issues judging by her Facebook.

This was posted earlier. But how's the family to blame if the coroner said she died of Covid 19?
An NHS source said this was unfair. “They have been given the information officially from the coroner that this is [a] Covid death,” they said. “And that’s their understanding of it.” But the source said the coroner’s move “raised eyebrows” at the hospital because she had not tested positive for the disease.

It's crazy man. I'll hand it to my wife though... she got up and went right into work today, no questions asked. I respect her more than I can put into words.

Your wife is a hero mate. I've always had huge respect for medical professionals but it went up a notch.

Glad the truth came out. BBC even reported it but the source was from facebook.

We'll have to see about the Spanish video, there is some talk about it being fake audio recording but we also had a Italian doctor saying the same thing a while back. The situation is probably happening but hopefully it come out whether the account of it false but hospitals and governments aren't going to say it's real either.

I do hope I am wrong but after being stuck in the middle of this for over a month now I have noticed that on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays there are lots more cases reported and a lot more ambulance sirens around. Today they have been fecking non stop.

I posted similar last week. We’re in the uk and live in a small village with a main link road between Swadlincote and Derby. We’ve heard a definite and substantial increase in ambulances. It is very very eerie, we just look at each other ...

They said she had no underlying health issues. She looks anorexic to me for a start.
You are diagnosing her via pictures/facebook?

The article doesn't say she had known underlying conditions. She died of heart-attack but the family were told that she died because of the virus.

OMG I thought Italy were just beginning to see the first merciful signs of decline of this pest of a virus.
Heart goes out to them. No words can describe what they must be going through.

Yes, it doesn’t bare thinking about what their health workers are coping with. There will surely be a psychological aftermath of this when it’s over.

Honestly there's been some proper shit posted in this thread today. People wishing death on others, people pleased about death outcomes. Just feck off world.

Was at Marks and Spencer’s just now, queues right round the corner 2m apart everyone pissed off waiting and this grade A prick comes walking out the shop with one pizza, just one!

I mean if you’re going to go shopping get at least a weeks groceries a once..
Maybe that's all they could afford?

There is something deeply wrong about the over 50's.

I'm no fan of the royals, but i'm intrigued by why people think the 1st in line to the throne is treated differently to some random.

He's 1 guy.
It's much easier to get him a test then millions of NHS workers!

I wonder if people genuinely wonder why the guy leading our country and the chief medical advisers running our emergency policy shouldn't have them too!

Coronavirus is totally different. We don't have a vaccine for the common cold because there are so many different types and they continually change, and there was never the incentive to keep developing SARS or MERS vaccines.

So far coronavirus hasn't evolved much if at all and it's shutting down half the world.

They are all corona virus. I think you mean Covid-19 is different but I doubt you actually know that to be true. SARS vaccine was trialed on animals but had too many nasty side effects it was deemed not sensible to go to human trials. Covid-19 may skip animal trials.... Im sorry but I would not be a guinea pig on that. Has any corona vaccine ever worked?

When Italy started to see their health service stretched last week and Sky News went in to a few of their hospitals to show the world what was happening, I thought that was a great way to spread the message to the UK and the world.

Based on the FT log graph we are on the same trajectory as Italy. The last few days we've hit triple figures and Sky News (this isn't a pop at them) don't seem to be posting much with regard to our Dr's and Hospitals in the same way they did for Italy. Please correct me if I have not seen this.

Is it the case of they don't want to scare the public, or don't have permissions?

I just feel that for the dickheads out there sunbathing or having bbq's whatever it may be, they really need a reality check.

SARS vaccine failed, MERS too. We have never had any luck with the common cold. Not much success at fighting any corona virus with vaccines so I wonder where you are getting your optimism about a vaccine from?
There are coronavirus vaccines available for dogs and cats which work. The only reason we haven't got anything for humans is because it's not financially viable for drug companies. Covid19 is different though, the sales of the drug will be on the billions of units so there will be a vaccine not too far away.

Naw, he was very suave looking could tell he had money, that made him seem more of a prick
Damn.

Someone was posting earlier that a lot of people are aimlessly hanging out in supermarkets to the point where some people are getting banned by shops.

Actually not only them but a lot more too. It's the same in warfare. Normal privates get killed while Generals have bodyguards etc. The actual fighting is done by the ordinary soldiers.
To me it's utterly stupid for Bojo and Prince Charles and The Queen to be even think of meeting people and shake hands or be in close proximity.
There is utter confusion in the management of this. This is where the mess is.

The common cold is due to many different viruses some which we still haven't discovered. The majority of common colds are due to rhinoviruses which are stupid hard to find a vaccine for.

That's seems a bit of stretch, Charles is nothing more than a pointless celebrity living off state benefits and Boris is a elected official. There's a massive difference imo. Also while it's easier to test one person than millions of Nhs workers, doesn't mean it should be the option we chose.

Now having all of that I don't think we should have tested Boris, at least not this early anyway. He did after all say we'd have to take this one on the chin. At least give him a couple of rounds against the virus.

Damn.

Wouldn’t surprise me this crisis really is showing the worst of society

Im pretty sure there would have been serious money in SARS and MERS. SARS went through animal testing and was shelved due to adverse affects. I don't share your confidence i'm afraid.

There has been a lot of talk about death rates, infection rates and the current situation.

In Norway there is now some debate about food supply and how much we will be able to supply ourselves with. Grain from the US might be a problem if things get really bad there etc. It all depends a lot on how long countries locks down. For example in Norway normally there is an influx of workers from various nations that come and work with food production at large farms. Here, in a good year we can propably supply ourselves with 2/3 of the grain needed, vegetables depends on workforce and we maybe will have to train the people that have lost their jobs to work with his. Other problems might be certain ingredients, medicines etc that is necessary. There is no control over this situation right now as far as I can see, and from being very self supplied we have gone more and more towards international commerce to supply the market with food products. We will at least have a lot of potatoes, onions and cabbage  This is also a situation I think a lot of nations are not prepared for. Hopefully it does not get too bad.

How is this situation in the UK and other nations? Are you self-supplied if this situation continues until autumn?

@Arruda posted a Twitter link from the CEO of a pharmaceutical company who explains the point myself and @11101 is saying. Everything comes down to potential profit in our modern capitalist world.
