SARS CoV-2 coronavirus / Covid-19 (No tin foil hat silliness please)

Go to the hospital is literally the worst advice. Call 111 if symptoms escalate, they will tell you where to go and meet hospital staff OR send an ambulance with paramedics prepared for the disease. You don’t just rock up at your nearest A&E
Do not panic and don't get hysterical.

It's the standard advice in Germany, because she probably does not have Corona, but fever can be dangerous - and that's what you do in Germany, especially on a Wednesday afternoon when many doctors do not work.

I work in one and expected this, schools been setting up digital learning so work can be emailed. Theres been under a half of kids in all week anyway.

In NI heard from a principle of my daughters school that he doesn't expect to be open next week, id say the lockdown stage will start. Also I am a Civil Servant and have been told not to expect to be closing but we have all signed up to a text service for updates in work on evenings and weekends.

Theyll close schools and all your local towns will be rammed with teenagers. I cant see any scenario where they stayed locked in home all day. It just wont happen

clearly the wildlife trade is a factor as it's one of the reasons there are so many species there
Wildlife is a factor in the number of diseases the animals are harbouring.

With battery farming, the animals are born and raised in captivity. So they never get exposed to the same number of pathogens, and therefore there are lot fewer nasty bugs that could potentially mutate.

The fact this happened in a wet market is because the odds were so high.

But it's also possible that the next big pandemic could come from domesticated cows or domesticated chickens or pet dogs or pet cats or urban rats (like during the Black Death). What makes it less likely in this latter group is that there's not much inter-species mixing. Also domesticated/pet animals tend to get treated for diseases, as would be the case in battery farms.

What's the situation like in France in terms of movement? I know they're under lockdown but what does that mean specifically?

Anyone watch PMQ’s? What was your verdict if so?

Johnson has no plan, he really is still winging this.

He claimed first that testing was being ramped up to 10,000 a day.

Then, the very next question, he said 25,000 tests a day.

I don't care what your politics are, this is not a man who can deal with the situation the country is in.

In some ways, it's actually better that their outdoors rather than locked up.

You're more likely to catch influenza in school, because influenza is aerosolised and any close proximity means you're likely to breathe it in.

The coronavirus isn't aerosolised anywhere as easily. The reason that NHS has advised washing hands so strongly is that C19 is spread primarily through droplets that have landed on surfaces which people then touch and bring to their own mouths/noses. It's a physical route rather than an airborne route.

You've got more chance of catching C19 from a family member cooped up at home, than you are from walking around town or sat in a classroom practising social distancing and decent handwashing. This has been borne out in the statistics (75-80% of the spread has been pinpointed as happening in the home rather than in public places).

The Uk's response has been appalling.

I think I read earlier than in Ireland we've done 5 or 6 x times the testing per capita as the UK.

How is that even possible?

Honestly I'm amazed, your government continues to do such an awful job with everything that it always seems to make our government look really competent in comparison.

He doesn't even have the best tests. We have the best tests. Beautiful tests. Conducted by medical staff!!!

I'm ashamed to say I voted tories but whatever confidence I had in him is gone.

We have only five legal reasons to leave the house: Go to work, go to groceries stores, for medical reasons, for family emergencies and to walk dogs or individual physical activities.

When we go out we need to fill an attestation with the reason for breaking the lockdown, our name, birthdate and address. There is an other form that is given by your employer attesting that you work for him.

You should obviously be complying with whatever national guidance you have, but most countries are letting people go outside for exercise and mental health. It's the social interaction that needs to be limited. I think if I needed some fresh air, I'd be driving somewhere fairly remote, as we long we would be allowed to get there.
If someone on the street happen to walk near you and sneeze/cough (without mask), you may still get this.

I just came across a few people walking their dogs and people pretty much walk away from each other. Even the usual faces I see and stop to exchange a few words, we just nodded from a distance.

I passed by an on duty pharmacy at 2 am (across the road, I didn't go near it) and there were a few people outside standing in line 5 meters apart from each other. I think after the initial day or two after the first cases, people are now taking this very seriously here.

Do the tests really matter anymore at this point? In Belgium it's not officially at 1.4k but they've long ago stopped testing everyone, and they reckon the actual number of infections is ten times that. I've got a friend who literally has all the symptons but she got told they wouldn't do a test on her anymore, she should just sweat it out in self-quarantaine at home (she's 24) and only go to the hospital if it got worse.

Of course "it matters" to know the numbers and see how the curve evolves but we'll never know how accurate they really are, I think it's much more important to be vigilant that our healthcare system doesn't get overrun at this point.

How often are you actively being stopped?

My friend is a photographer in Florence and he does just this. He has some incredible photos of landmarks that would otherwise be populated by people.

Yeah it's pretty cool, not just the photos the whole vibe you get. Sometimes it's almost surreal to stand in a busy avenue where you have cars passing by non-stop and hundreds of people every hour of the day, and you can hear birds chirping, something you'd never associate with the city center.

He has got a plan. He wants a cross party response to all the issues and all the other parties are in agreement. Stop saying he can't deal with the situation in the country. Everybody knows it's an impossible situation and headless chicken comments don't help.

You're trying to score political points when we should all be pulling together. He said we are ramping up to 10,000 tests a day and aiming for 25,000. The money is there but finding people and locations to safely test people is a gargantuan challenge. Do you not get it?

I completely disagree. As not really a BoJo fan he has come across very well so far in his statements and is following the best scientific advice he's being given.

Yet people on here keep defending their approach. It’s laughable. Or it would be if it wasn’t so galling.

What is the point in testing everybody with a mild form of the disease. We have bigger things to worry about than having someone with a mild cough testing positive. Treat the people and test the people who have a more serious form of the disease.

They’ll close schools tonight after saying only last Thursday this was a measure that had to be taken at the ‘right’ time. That’s a period of 6 days. There is no plan. Making it up as they go along. Vallance is clueless and Boris is an absolute clown.
