SARS CoV-2 coronavirus / Covid-19 (No tin foil hat silliness please)

Spain have hit 4200 cases and 120 deaths sadly. They seem to be on a path worse than Italy, hope they can slow it down.

2000 cases in Madrid

Another one for all those defending this.

I know of an event scheduled for April, its a niche hobby and will have an attendance of around 30,000.

Everyone involved thinks its a bad idea, they don't want it to go ahead but it is also where they make around 60% of their annual income over a single weekend.

They can't cancel it though. Because they have sunk significant investment into holding it already, and unless the government or venue say no, their cancellation insurance will not pay out.

My company have pretty much been running around like headless chickens the last 3 weeks. We are in an industry that can 99% be done remotely, but we are still paper based...

350 employees and we only have 50 licences to remotely login. It's very much after the horse has bolted at this stage.

Are the arthritis drugs steroid based?

"Since Saturday, we have treated 6 patients all intubated. Of these, 3 have had a significant improvement. The first patient showed signs of improvements to the control CT performed last night." So Paolo Ascierto, director of the Pascale clinical immunology unit, takes stock of the situation on the use of Tolicizumab, the monoclonal antibody used for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis on coronavirus-induced pneumonia at the Cotugno hospital in Naples.

Our work has employed a 50/50 split between those working at home and those staying in the office.

Personally I don’t understand this as, barring some inexperienced staff who need supervision, nobody else technically has to work in the office. We can all work remotely.

Hey, it's better than doing what my company are doing, which is nothing...

At least you create a bit more of a distance between people and if there is a confirmed case and possible spread, it will only apply to 50% of the business instead of 100%.

It's not the complete answer, but it's a reasonable start.

Those exact numbers are hard to calculate accurately. @Wibble posted this a few days ago and I skimmed through it.

Thanks Arruda, was really hoping for U.K numbers though - they must be around somewhere?

Part of the answer is found in the fact that you wouldn't be able to post what you're posting about the Chinese government in China, and if you did, you'd either pretty quickly recant it or find yourself disappeared.

So because they have Governments who are more harsh than ours they can provide childcare for Doctors / Nurses when schools are shut? But that's only part of the answer you so cryptically state... hmmm the mystery deepens.

Ok, if you're actually willing to suspend your own not inconsiderable intellect far enough to buy that, that's fine I guess.

But what about countries that have Democracies yet have still managed to close schools and provide childcare for Doctors / Nurses?

How have they achieved solution to this mystical, puzzling conundrum?

gallows humour is that a harsh winter actually benefits the NHS long term.
When I did my induction day for my trust we had a 15 minute lecture solely telling us that if we didn't like gallows humour we were perfectly entitled to shut the feck up.

It matters a lot, it's sats year for a start. And I recently had an incident where they told me his therapist appointments were authorised, but turns out the government advice in that was wrong and I was a week away from a fine and possibly court without even knowing it.

But the point is more that there's absolutely no idea what they should be doing. First saying 2 days, then saying 7, now saying bring them back in Monday. I'm savvy enough and lucky enough to be in a position to decide for myself what to do and have cover for my boys, but what about everyone else who aren't quite so lucky?

The government said any symptoms self isolate for 7 days, I imagine that would apply to kids as well.

The more days that pass the more it really doesn’t seems to matter how much lockdown you do, this virus just keeps going
President of Brazil infected.

In a country as big as Brazil with only 85 reported infections, what's the chances of the president getting it? Id say a lot of these less developed countries the numbers reported are worthless.

I would imagine Liverpool is about to get a few cases following the influx of Atleti fans on Wednesday. That should have been called off!

Bolsano shook hands with trump.

On saturday.

What a strange way it would be for the whole Trump madness to end. It would lend credence to the suggestion we are in someones Sims like simulation and they are getting bored.

Health workers are going to get infected too. Massive stress/PTSD likely from making hard decisions. Isolation from their own families. They are amazing.

a bit of a silver lining here is the link between PTSD and the hippocampus. PTSD sufferers tend to have decreased volume in that part of the brain, and doctors etc tend to have larger hippocampus’ stemming from their superior memories/need for retention. So scientifically speaking, PTSD is less likely to affect people on the front line defence for this. Obviously not a blanket statement, though, as some will undoubtedly suffer.

I've no doubt that Trump has got it at this point. He's been in contact with so many that have it. Seen speculation/rumours on Reddit and Twitter that he's refusing/likely to refuse a test due as it will result in him being in isolation and not allowed to swan off and play golf whenever he pleases.

798 cases in the UK, +208 cases. 30% rise for the second day in a row.

Welcome to the party, i guess.

yeah was thinking this, 3000 people from Madrid in Liverpool. Really really stupid while other games were behind closed doors

Stupid doesn't even begin to describe it. These sort of decisions usually lead to trials for gross negligence.

I think that's the case everywhere now tbh. You can tell by the number of officials, celebs, sportspeople coming out positive now that the figures everyone is reporting are not worth the paper they are written on. All that will matter when all the dust has cleared is how many have died. Not just from Covid19 directly but also from the fallout of it.

he's not the only one.

johnson spent an entire evening with dorries while she was likely infected last week.

He lives in a flat above the chancellor's office at number 11, and has been sitting in Westminster with 600+ of them all crowded in.

He won't get tested either, because he has no symptoms.

I'd guess at least one senior minister, johnson, patel or sunak, will be diagnosed with it in the next two weeks.

Bolsonaro is an absolute rat of a man. I hope he's shitting himself. Figuratively and literally.

My firm is now asking everyone to work from home for at least one day next week to check system capabilities. General message aside from this is that WFH is “encouraged but not compulsory”.

Probably only a matter of time until it becomes compulsory.
