SARS CoV-2 coronavirus / Covid-19 (No tin foil hat silliness please)

…..what an absolutely crazy time we live in right now. I’m for everything and anything as long as it’s not forced at any people’s at the expense of their livelihood. “Involuntary”, as they like to call it.

What I find most outrageous is how somehow the general public for the most part has been convinced that these (corrupt) corporations and governments somehow are looking out for their best interests and have gladly handed over their own well being/life into the hands of these entities. It’s quite sad and shocking that at the end of it all, they can’t see it either gives those entities money or power. As if they care for your well being. Look at their track records.

& this is coming from someone who had cancer recently as 4 years ago. It sure as hell doesn’t mean I can’t be critical of said pharmaceutical manufacturers when things are going on in the world as they are.

PS — if you can’t see already, I’m not even talking about the drugs itself. Purely off the moral/ethics/humanity aspect of it all which is black and white as can be. If someone somehow disagrees with that, then there’s nothing really left to say.

First real world evidence of vaccine (Pfizer) efficacy from SA.

tl;dr Fairly steep drop off in protection vs infection. Moderate reduction in protection vs hospitalisation.

93% to 70% would actually be terrible for hospitalisations. It would mean there are 4,3 times more hospitalisations.

But SA has had so many undiagnosed infections that it is impossible to control for them, which makes all the ve calculations highly inaccurate. Also the data before has been that delta was more severe than original, whereas they have it other way here. Makes me rather sceptical of the 29% less severe number (it could be more or less or exactly that, but probably impossible again to control for).

Any idea what actual daily case numbers in the UK are at the moment? Must be a huge undercount with so many people with cold like symptoms not getting tested. Anecdotally seems like everyone is getting it.

Is this true about camps in Australia? I live there and never heard of it

Impossible to take you seriously when you follow and share tweets from so many obvious bad actors. You seem to be stuck in a particularly toxic echo chamber. This is not good for you. Please try and seek more diverse and better informed opinions.

That sentence alone disqualifies you from any serious discussion. It's an argument that's thrown around so often by the anti-vaxxers and it's simply stupid.
In a functioning society, mandatory regulations are needed. If, according to the current state of science, a vaccination helps to ensure that vital interventions and operations and the whole health sector can be carried out without delay, then it damn well has to be done. And if some idiots do not comply with this because they believe it would restrict their self-determination or freedom, then such a vaccination simply has to be compulsory. That's it, and there's no room for further discussion.

Just taken my eldest down for her pcr as she's got a positive lateral flow, Mrs and I are still showing negative.

Looks likely that Spider-Man will become a super villain this Christmas!

Nearly every screening I've looked at of the new movie from tomorrow (Wednesday 15th December) onwards, is half full at least or three quarters to full up completely.

Hundreds of people all queuing, buying food etc then sitting together for two and a half hours, most wont be mask wearing because they'll all be filling their faces and drinking, talking etc. Hopefully I'm wrong and it's not as bad as it sounds..

Spider-Man: Omicron Rises. Opens in cinema's everywhere from Wednesday 15th.

My spider sense is definitely tingling!

Just cancelled our joint 40th party (the other half and myself, same day) for Saturday. because some of our guests although jabbed would definitely count as vulnerable, and others work in the NHS, and although they would have come are quite rightly nervous and didn't want to have them feeling bad if they decided not to come. Absolutely the right call imo but still beyond gutted. No football, no party, feck covid. (Im not fishing for sympathy, i know so so many have lost loved ones, jobs, and more besides, just need to vent at someone who wont feel bad about it)

Hmm - username makes me think this is a personal issue

Following Russell Brand is like some kind of idiot test.

My big 30th last year was cancelled, and my wedding had to be delayed. I feel your pain.

Got boosted. Moderna this time (Pfizer first two). Absolutely banging headache and general drowsiness but otherwise fine. Went for a walk in as my appointment was 29th and was seen in an hour. The queue was long but they were going through them very quickly. Nice to see people of all ages there trying to get their jab.

Had a really bad reaction to 2nd Pfizer- big fever, 10 days of sore swollen lymphnodes - booster has been way better. Just 3 days of soreness and no big fever spike.

No idea what that means with regards to protection mind.

Jaysus. Really? In my experience it’s impossible to swab your own sinuses with anything like the same enthusiasm as a professional.

I had assumed the same, but my university has now had 18 months of weekly self testing data from thousands of students and found no difference in positivity rates between self-swabs and external ones.

There is one simple answer to this. The data is fake.

@jojojo

What’s testing capacity like in the Uk? In Ireland the delta surge has us rattling along at a positivity rate of just over 14% with at least a 24 hour wait to get a PCR test. 2 or 3 weeks back you would have had to wait a couple of days in some parts of the country.

If daily cases double or triple from here (which is inevitable?) there’s going to be a serious bottle-neck when it comes to getting tested. I guess we need to plan for how that works. Assume every viral illness is covid and isolate accordingly?

Me and most of my mates turned 40 last year. I'm not normally one for celebrating, but I had plans last year I was looking forward to. Little did I suspect that I'd be postponing it for 2 years at least.

You are fooling no one, you will still be 42. :nono:

He's Marvel I'm DC, but we're both the good guys. It's the Sinister Six that have it in for ole spidey!

On a serious note, what do you think about the packed cinemas though?
I was looking forward to going and watching this, but it might be the first film I'm bothered about that I'll not go out and see. I'm not sure I can feel comfortable wearing a mask for the best part of 3 hours while surrounded by strangers.

Sorry to hear that. That sucks big time.

I've been doing my best to steer clear of big shops over these last few months, unless I absolutely need to go in. Popped into the local Co-op this morning to get some dinner on the way to work and was taken aback at just how many people weren't wearing masks. It was a 50-50 split. Fecking mental. Staff weren't wearing them either. No distancing either in the queues, or at least no attempt by people to distance. :wenger:

In theory I think capacity is about 800k PCR tests per day but actual tests done are below 600k. DIY swabs account for most of those, swabs done by healthcare staff maybe 100/150k per day.

From what I've heard, getting kits to people seems to be a bigger bottle neck currently than getting tests processed.

Yes it is. Probably because it’s not made mainstream. I have friends there that say the same thing. Unless you’re not following independent journalists that bring light onto this, it’s hard to know really.

Ok but you haven’t refuted anything I said. Very brave of you to assume such a thing about a stranger on the internet. Those are just a handful of sentiments I agree with. I could care less who it’s coming from.

Again, no need to get yourself so uptight. If you didn’t get all fiery red eyed, you’ll see I didn’t speak ill of the drug. In fact I stated it. My post was only about the ethics and morals of all the ramifications coming as a result in so many different places in the world. “You’re the Nazi”, sounds even more comical when you replied with such moral high ground and authority assuming as much as you did. Actually remind me of the Australian official in that RBrand video in the tone your post came off…

LOLL. I used to think that too years ago. But he’s in fact turned out to be one of the best journalists out there. Sources everything clearly and his short videos are informative and to the point. So yea regardless of what your or anyone’s opinion is of him, doesn’t dispute the accurateness of his content/reporting :]

can you link some of the journalists?
