SARS CoV-2 coronavirus / Covid-19 (No tin foil hat silliness please)

Well done for posting this here where you leave yourself open to huge criticism and personal insults for not sitting in the corner of a dark room on your own until Boris says you can move.

You sound like me, at the end of you tether. I went to me mums the other day then my brothers. Not seen them for 8 months. This does not make me a bad person, or a murderer or anything else. It makes me a human being. I have sacrificed myself for 9 months now when a lot of people dont seem to have sacrificed anything.
Going there is safer than going to Tesco, or anywhere else whoever will criticise me has been to lately.

I will also be going to another family members house on boxing day. Bite me. Not arsed.
Differing opinions will not be tolerated. Agree or be ridiculed. Because that tactic always works..

People will happily lock down for as long as the government tells them to, while still packing out trams & workplaces. We’re going round in circles.

Continue to go to work & be around hundreds of people you don’t know, some using packed public transport? Yes that’s fine. But dare go to see your mates or parents? No, you evil monster, you’re basically a murderer.

My mum works in a GP surgery and just messaged to say a healthy 28 year old died from the new strain. So that’s terrifying.

The problem with this is obviously we would prefer not to be on teams and in the office but this is actually impossible to stop.

That’s somewhat puerile to think that only governments can influence behavior of the masses. It’s a convenient excuse or rationalization to back engineer to limit ones own responsibility or culpability.

It’s not as though virtually every person on this planet doesn’t understand the issues pertaining to this pandemic. This isn’t 1918 with the flu. The world is far more connected with instantaneous information at our fingertips. If anything, governments are not listened to by the populace when they are trying to assist the public, but will be castigated when the public feels encumbered by what the government tries to do.

And, to think that any government could & would have played the cards totally perfect in this pandemic is also utterly laughable. It’s where the governments fail that the common sense of the populace needs to pick up the slack.

Edit - posted this earlier. I am curious as to how someone like yourself would shoehorn in governmental fault here & absolve this poor, obviously put-upon couple...

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...d-United-fight-complete-chaos-passengers.html

Sure, it’s anecdotal, but exemplary of the problem we face.
But what we’re doing isn’t working and the only people with the power to influence entire nations are those in charge. What are you doing to influence what other people are doing? Very little, because you can’t.

I’m curious to understand how people like yourself can blame the general public for our Government threatening to sue schools for suggesting kids don’t come in a few days before that same Government told everyone living in that area that they should all behave like they already have the virus.

Are a lot of people dicks? Yes. What is our Government’s response to that? To continue allowing them to behave like dicks.

There’s a vast fecking ocean between playing it perfectly and actively making matters worse.

So you don't bother to visit your mum or brothers during June, July, August and September when it was relatively safe and there were no restrictions to stop you from doing so.. You then decide to do so when there are restrictions and it is not safe to do so. I'm beginning to get this. I thought you were an idiot when all along its obviously just a cunning plan to kill your mum & siblings so that you end up with a tidy inheritance. Enjoy your winnings!

It wasn't safe then either to be fair, not for society anyway. I've seen a few people say this logic as if having lots of social contact and causing the second wave is fine because it was legal but doing the same thing later is unconscionable because its not.

Which is exactly why the government is responsible for it's messaging because they led people to believe it was fine as long as it wasn't breaking restrictions. It was always going to yo yo with that.

In terms of infection rates it was certainly a lot safer then than it is now.

Reading between the lines, I do think it's crass the government haven't done more to pressure businesses to change certain protocols. Say, via pushing staggered work times rather than packing public transport so people get to work at precisely the same time they always have (e.g., 9am).

Hopefully other nations will realise they jumped the gun and just copied each other like morons.

I imagine they won't as countries like India and co are proud and would more likely double down than admit they just shit the bed and wanted to be seen to do something

Depends what you've been doing really as to how much the risk varies. Anyone having a house party at any point since March is a feckless idiot in my book.

LOOOL I still can't believe non eu countries did this. The bans will be lifted im sure once they run their course.

I haven't seen my 21 year old son for a year and it is likely going to be nearly another year before I do. I hate it as does he. However, there is a pandemic going on so we accept that it is what it is.

So suck it up princess. Things will be largely back to normal in 12 months time, which is feck all time in the scheme of things.
Will it? Every time good news seems to come (vaccines) bad news seems to follow (new variant).

I doubt many people are happy about following it but they do because it's what needs to be done to save lives.
From my perspective i have no problem with nessesery issues (if hard evidence is provided that is needed). My bugbear is the unnecessary cherry's on top, me and a friend play tennis once a week, exactly why can't we do that in lockdown? Is there any evidence we're at risk of even passing it on to eachother, let alone causing an outbreak?

That is pure whataboutery though.

"Yeah sure I'm breaking the rules but what about the schools, what about public transport, what about bla bla"

There's no one size fits all solution. Just because one area is causing problems doesn't mean you should then decide it's ok for you to flout restrictions and potentially cause problems too. if one thing has been abundantly clear through the last year is that there's no easy solution to Covid and everyone should play their part.

Yes, the people we should be really sorry for are the very elderly and those who are terminally-ill, who may not have much time left even without Covid. If you're 20-something and healthy this is just a blip in your life, as you have decades still to come when everything will be back to normal.

I'm going to be a boomer now, but I wonder what everyone did during the last war when all the men were sent away for years and years, with no internet, telephones or anything other than the occasional little letter.

Restrictions on civil liberties were much harsher during WW2. Blackouts and curfews with much harsher penalties for transgressors.People had to tough this out for nearly 6 years. Rationing went on until into the 1950's. In 9 months we have lost nearly as many people to covid as we did in civilian deaths during the entirety of WW2. No mobile phones no internet. But then they did have telegrams. 384,000 arrived delivering the worst news imaginable. I know some people have had it very tough but some of the people, a minority, just come across as winy, entitled little brats. On a personal note I retired from work in October also a milestone birthday. All the lovely things we had been planning for 12 months down the toilet. A once in a lifetime celebration gone forever? No, just postponed. If I'm lucky I've got 10 or so years on the clock, who knows. 2 years to get things back to normal is a substantial chunk of my time left. Whats 2 years to a fit and healthy 20 year old? So I'm disappointed that my things haven't worked as planned but my disappointment is nothing compared to the suffering others have had to endure.

I agree with you Roger. I'm 62, but I count myself lucky compared to a couple of my friends who are already in their 80s. And wouldn't you know, they're not complaining, they're just doing what they've been asked to do.

Such bandwagon jumping, it's unreal the damage it caused.

I can only blame Boris for this and his stupid desire to not admit he screwed up by promising a normal Christmas

I’m sorry mate but it’s a false equivalency. My 27 year old self & my 25 year old girlfriend going to our 20-something year old mates is not going to kill anyone. I’m hardly going into an old folks home coughing on everyone am I?

I understand the risks, I wear the masks, I do the social distancing, I even wear gloves when I shop just in case I’m asymptomatic because I know others will be touching the same trollies/baskets, trust me, I care, but it’s unreasonable to expect people to sit in their house over Christmas whilst encouraging them to go to work in packed offices. Have you seen the trams? Packed, yet that’s ok but I can’t see my friends? Sounds like bullshit to me.

No, but plenty of people under 60 need to be admitted to hospitals who aren't at risk of dying from Covid but do need medical care., taking up bed space and resources from those who really need it. Then you have the huge numbers of medical staff who have to self-isolate and are unable to work because a virus is running rampant due to the carelessness of large amounts of the population. This is first and foremost a health crisis - fix that and the rest looks after itself.

I was talking more about his comments about having piss-ups and mixing inside. Obviously what you're describing is different and I have no real opinion on that as I don't know the evidence.

Sent off my test on Saturday still not heard anything back. Last test I did was walk in and got the results the next day.

Frustrating.

I work in hospitality, a busy venue. The only time I've seen family this year properly is when infection rates have been low.

How much of my life am I expected to give up?

If you’re happy to give up years of your life that’s fine, I’m not.

The first one was working & we opened up too early. Asking people to lockdown for the 3rd time in 6 months is not going to work. People are done with it now. Doing another lockdown will do nothing. The more times we go into lockdown the less people will follow it.

You may be happy to follow it. I’m not now. I’ve lost nearly a year of my life & we’re no closer to a resolution. Done with it.

There's a bit of me that feels like you're wumming, such is the self centred nature of this series of posts. If not, people like you are a large reason why we're having to do this again. I take it no one in your circle of family and friends have been affected seriously by this virus? They can't have been, otherwise you wouldn't be spouting such self centred drivel as this. Everyone on this forum and beyond are having their lives affected by Covid restrictions. No point in blaming anyone for the situation we're in other than ourselves.

Every person in this country has known for months now a) how infectious this virus is b) how deadly it can be c) how it's transmitted and d) how to slow or stop the spread and yet here we are. There are those that have understood this and behaved accordingly and there are others that are just unable to look beyond their own beaks, pretty clear where you stand.

Ireland already declining the advice:

Boris Johnson has to be the most brazen liar they have produced to be PM.

Ours politicians are annoying but this man is infuriating.

There's part of me that tries to think that all world leaders are dealing with unheard of troubles and try and give them all the benefit of the doubt in this unparalleled difficult time but I wish he'd just develop the balls and ability to give bad news straight away and stick to a decision. He seems only able to deliver bad news after weeks of telling us he won't deliver bad news. This has been a pattern with him all year and it just makes everything worse.

Two options:

1) Start of December, 'sorry folks, we've looked at the data and decided we need to enter a full lockdown prior to, and over Christmas'
or
2) Start of December, 'Things are tough right now but it would be inhumane to stop people having a Christmas, we'll relax measures for 5 days'. Then, 5 days before Christmas 'sorry folks, we've looked at the data and decided we need to enter a full lockdown prior to, and over Christmas'.

Both are bad, but one is terrible! Boris seems totally unable to just give us bad news.

He is. He's a massive wum in pretty much every thread I see him in.

Don't feed the wum.

Shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted springs to mind. The rest of the country will only be a couple of week behind the south with this new variant especially with Christmas mixing. A January national lockdown seems inevitable but hopefully extending the school holiday period will be enough.

Remember to tell everyone with mental health problems staying at home to give it a rest, they’ve got the internet ffs
You do realise part of this guys complaint is that he can't go out on a piss up with his mates ? This means the government are robbing him of his late 20's

This governing is not robbing me of my late twenties. House piss ups it is.

I’m quite lucky I live with my girlfriend, not everybody has that, are people who live alone just expected to spend the rest of their lives alone?

The guy isn't Howard Hughes sitting at home pissing into bottles.

Please read my post properly before commenting. I said it was "relatively safe" the key word here is relatively and I used it in the context of visiting close family, during the months when infection rates were very low.

I do take your point that some peoples consciences are clear if they are not breaking the law. But I suspect many of those breaking the rules ,but not the law, are being disingenuous and would probably break the rules regardless. I think we can agree that this Government is entirely responsible for the mixed messaging, however, the advise from the medical advisors has been largely consistent. The medical advisors are the key here. They've consistently advised that large scale social contact is not without considerable risk. Even during the months of low infection rates.

I don't know about you or your local MP (they might even be half decent) but who's surgery would you rather attend if you needed medical advice your GPs surgery or your MPs surgery?

Thats what we need to drum into people.

Lockdown should be starting on 26th in the UK, why we are waiting for it to become a bigger issue is beyond me.

Shut it down for 6 weeks, vaccine as much as possible, slowly ease restrictions in mid-Feb and we slowly 'return to normal'.

Also stunned by the number of selfish cnuts on my insta who are paying no attention to any guidance.

The government constantly delaying measures, as they have all year, is utterly mind boggling. Announce it now it's lockdown from Boxing day, and just get on with it. Instead we all know its coming, but we're just waiting around for them to actually put it into place.

Do you actually think it'll be boxing day? I think 1st jan.
