Never seen him play. Is he as good as he's being hyped up to be?

Didn't really see him play much this last season but before that he's always struck me as a good player but not someone special.

Surely Walcott wouldn't get a move to a bigger club than Arsenal though? I can't see any logical reason he wouldn't stay, if he offered him a new contract.

They've offered him a contract but apparently he wants more than Arsenal are willing to give. Won't be too surprised if he's off next summer as well. Not that he'll be anywhere as big a loss as Cesc/RvP etc.

He's a good player with Arsenal's style, pass and move and he's very two footed. Agree that he's like Nasri. But wont be replacing him at Arsenal

I think he's better than Nasri, and more flexible. But he's 27 now and maybe he's left this move a bit late. I guess we'll soon find out.

Incidentally, Malaga have done enough not to get relegated - basically because the players have all agreed to their wages being paid next month (which delays any formal complaints being made until December). They're still at risk of UEFA action though.

Be interesting in to see how many they'll need to let go, can see Isco especially being in high demand.

Please be true. Please be true. Please be true. Please be true. Please be true.

Cazorla will be play in Rosicky's role.

For what its worth, the first place I saw this news broke is by the people that yesterday said a deal is in place between us and Sao Paulo for Lucas.

Back on topic though, since when was Cazorla so highly rated on here. He's been around forever it seems and wasn't he at Villareal for ages? Never heard anyone mentioning him being good until now.

You got Arteta. Your results with/without him speak volumes. Seems a bit premature to drop him, if you ask me.

The short version: Cazorla has 47 caps for Spain whereas Arteta has 0. That alone tells the story as far as I'm concerned. But he won't replace Arteta, although he can play his position. If everyone is fit it will be 4-3-3 with Song-Wilshere-Arteta in the middle and Cazorla as an inside LW, drifting centrally, much like David Silva.

Somewhere in this thread I gave a little description of the player.

If Giroud comes good, which he will, Le Arse will have a nice team. Only Podolski is the odd one. Arsene buying outdated German players. Fss.

What happened here? I thought they were taken over by rich owners like PSG and city?

They just seem to be buying a whole bunch of players in positions where they're already well-stocked and nobody in the positions where they lack depth/quality. Very strange spending spree.

Not really, Carzola would be strengthening in a position where we are weak. You compare him to Arteta but I don't think that is the position he is coming for, he will play in a more attacking role for us. Where probably Ramsay played for us most of last season or Rosicky, Ramsay I think needs to be loaned out for a season and Rosicky can't be relied on due to his injuries. I haven't seen Carzola but from those who have they say in La Liga he is kind of at the level Silva and Mata were when they played there so it seems like he has quality and that attacking midfield position was a problem for us last season especially with Wilshire out and still being a good few months from returning. After such a long lay off it will take him a good few weeks/months to get back to his best so it is much needed signing. We didn't have enough creativity last season from the centre of midfield hence Song always venturing forward. Arteta plays like in the Carrick position so quite deep and starting off attacks. We could also play him in our front three where while Walcott was productive but he was very hit and miss and Gervinho still hasn't fully settled in.

We are probably going to lose RvP, Chamakh & Arshavin so you could say if we do sign Carzola then Giroud, Podolski & Carzola will be their replacements. For many seasons we complained about a lack of depth in our squad but Wenger seems to be addressing that.

He'll need to be, if that lot are all going to get games.

Walcott was their most productive midfielder last season and he's still only 23. Seems strange to be giving up on him already.

Can't say that's a very impressive front three anyway. Don't know much about Cazorla but I don't think either of the other two are much cop.

Why do you think Giroud's no good?

They were, but dodgy rich owners who baulked when it finally sank in exactly how much it was going to take to compete with Barca & Real, due largely to the breakdown in tv money.

Cazorla, Van Nistelrooy and a couple of others put in an official complaint because they hadn't been paid(they've now revoked it), Villareal & Osasuna have lodged complaints over non-payment of transfer fees & they also owe the taxman a large wedge of cash.

Hierro walked away in the summer as he didn't like what was happening behind the scenes. All a bit of a mess really.

Malaga, in tonight's episode the club is for sale and its current owners are determined not to spend any more money (aka pay their debts).

Looks like everyone at Malaga is for sale. Pellegrini has apparently been told to get a new job as they can't pay him. Toulalan is supposed to be working on the same assumption. The squad voted to continue training today seemingly on the basis that the club will collapse if they don't carry on, and they'll find new jobs easier if they do keep working.

Barring a sudden rescue by some eccentric billionaire (with a yacht in Malaga) Cazorla will indeed move in the next few days and Isco won't be far behind.

Oh how I hope I wake up one day and read that City's owners is sick of their footy club and won't spend a penny more:D

I've been raving about Santi since about the Euro 2008 period.

With Barca/Real already full of attacking minded players its a surprise that its taken this long for a club from abroad to go for him.

He should've been snapped up well before his move to Malaga. Be an excellent signing for Arsenal. I rate him higher than Mata.

Cazorla was one of those players people pigeonholed as, "He'll never leave Spain." The fact that he turned down a move to Real Madrid (admittedly after a season in which Villareal had come second behind Madrid, with Barcelona trailing back in third) made people think of him as a one club man.

When selling time came for Villareal, Barcelona didn't have a space, Madrid were comfortable (and might even still have a grudge over being rejected earlier) and Valencia had no money. One year on and a move out of Spain looks like the only real option for him, hence the attempt to rate him compared to other players with successful England top 4 clubs.

Nice deal for Arsenal. So is he going to become their most expensive transfer yet?

Good player. Would have liked him myself at City. If Arsenal could get Sahin and keep Van Persie then they would have a top class forward 5

Cazolrla
Sahin
Song
Wilshire
Podolski
Van Persie

To be fair that would be pretty scary and tick all the right boxes

We don't know what the actual amount is some say 22mill euros but I've also heard 15mill euros as Malaga are desperate and want all money upfront so don't know what to believe. Certainly one of our most expensive players if we do sign him

Sahin makes sense for Arsenal as Wilshere is injured and out till October.

Very nice signing for the Arsenal. If they get Sahin on loan and manage to keep RVP which is looking more and more likely by the day, they'll have no problems getting 4th, and could even push Chelsea for 3rd. They just need to sort out their defence and they'll have a quality team.

Rumours are might even be longer than October as it will take him time to get back and also after a long injury lay off it is quite common to pick up smaller niggly injuries again.

From what I've read we want Sahin but only if they were is a clause to make his transfer permanent and R.Madrid don't seem very keen on that.

Yes, i think that's exactly the reason why we have managed to fend off competition from City & Chelsea.
both of them needs to spread the fees over the years due to FFP, while we can manage to spend some in one go.

After all the deals we have given them.

FFS real we sold your Ruud, Becks and Ron below market value. Ron at £80m was cheap and SAF admits that one.

Or Real will change their tune if they grab Modric.

They did pay £8m for Heinze though, a very good price for us.

I remember when we had drawn Villarreal a few years back in the CL. Pires was playing for them at that time. He had this interview in the CL magazine show where he was bigging up this kid called Santi.
Cant believe he is 27 already.

Rumours we're trying to get Monreal from them aswell.

That's a great price for a Spanish player in his prime. He'll do very well for them.

That seems a fantastic price for a player that good.
