Sancho won’t return to Man Utd until he's ready - Way too much inappropriate speculation.

I’m all for anything that gets the best out of him. But to say he isn’t one of our worst performers this season is nonsense.

I agree he's not having the best of seasons so far, but it was only a few weeks ago the Rashford for thread was alive with talk of him not being able to get back in with Sancho ahead of him. Things can change very quickly and I don't feel the need to be pulling the knives out on any player right now.

TBH I'm not quite sure its mental health. I think he's talking more about the mental aspects of the game. Him saying that Sancho isn't physically ready to play, which was quite clear from his pressing when he did play, in this conversation may mean that Sancho may have some things to learn in regard to aspects like positioning and work rate rather than him having mental health or social issues. This is just me deciphering, but I could be wrong.
It's all pure speculation, given the lack of detail on Sancho's issues, so who knows whether it's an attitude issue or a genuine mental health problem, alongside the physical concerns. Given no-one knows if he actually has mental issues or not, the arguing and abuse being thrown around is really over hypertheticals.

Hopefully ETH will help him through whatever it is, Sancho's happy and we get the player we hoped we were signing.

No one seems to have mentioned the fact that if Sancho had MH issues serious enough to be sent somewhere to recover (which is beyond your run of the mill stress/depression/anxiety/grief induced stuff) it certainly wouldn’t be flagged by our manager so comprehensively during an interview.

He clearly mentions performance levels dropping, statistics and fitness and mood. Could you imagine if Sanchodid have serious mental health issues and then checking his phone only to read the whole world has been notified of how the club is not happy with his mood/performance and mentality - talk about pushing someone over the edge!

I think some folks in here @TheReligion mainly, are starting and continuing a fight that doesn’t really exist. No one wishes the lad any bad…but as fans we can have opinions on players performances and ability to represent our club no? Nothing said in here is much worse than what his actual manager said - to the worlds media! So very irritating to see such good natured souls litterally monitoring threads and telling off other posters the second they don’t rethink every word they write so as not to offend anyone.

The faux moral outrage is really something.

The faux psychology is what worries me. Wherever you got a psychology degree needs to update it's course from the 1950s Marine Corp syllabus it used with you.

We know nothing other than a player is going on a specialist training programme in what is essentially the off-season. There's no indication he's in need of 'a therapy outreach patient care centre', and if he was, so what? We're Manchester United, we're too big to care for the mental health of our staff? What kind of garbage is that?

Let's park your needlessly bullish, hard-man twaddle - it's pathetic. Grow up.

He's not had the best start to his life at Manchester United but that's not unusual. He's shown brilliance in his early career and to think it's magically disappeared so needs to be shipped out overnight is ridiculous. You don't scrap your car because it got a flat tire. He's a 22-year-old multi-million-pound asset who'll almost certainly prove you wrong.

If you're a representative of my football club, something has gone very wrong.

What is pathetic is a player earning over 350k per week and is yet again not in the physical condition to play for the club and we got the top reds out saying we should be mourning for him even after the fact he didn't even turn up fit last season and has a history of turning up late to training along with a history of having attitude problems.

He's shown brilliance in the Bundesliga, he's not shown any brilliance for man utd, or england so nothing has magically disappeared it's more of the same shitshow we've seen from last season where even Ole had to drop him because he was so ineffective. So who the hell is he going to prove wrong and when?

It's been a bit more polemic than that. United being a psychiatric hospital, Sancho needing to man up and being soft as feck are just a few of the types of statements that have been bandied about in here. Confidence is absolutely mental health related, so it's not inaccurate to say Sancho's individualised programme that he has been sent to work on with specialists in the Netherlands has been done to aid his confidence and state of mind, and therefore mental health.

Nice. That’s an opinion I guess. And I have mine as well. And won’t apologize for it. I haven’t begun to analyze Sancho as there is no need to do so. The manager is trying to deal with issues he has had throughout his career up until now. The simple fact of the matter is those who are inventing some mental health issue and crucifying everyone else who doesn’t agree with them are doing Sancho and everyone who isn’t making massive assumptions a disservice.

I don’t get it - exactly what’s happened to him?

He is still on 350k per week or something?

I’ve not started or continued anything.

Perhaps if I had a degree in psychology you’d listen.

He is a technically excellent player, just currently on a bad form. His goal vs Liverpool is a proof, he made a fool out of Pool defenders.

Months more like in Rashford’s case but your point is taken and it’s a fair one. The concern for me is that he is just the sort of player who should flourish under ten Hag. But obviously his off the ball play and fitness are still massive issues. Again I hope he sorts it out because he can be a handful going forward, especially in a progressive system like ours.

Not saying there are not MH issues involved when a player lacks confidence but in that case - close the player performance threads immediately and replace them with player support threads.

I like to think of the caf as a bunch of people in a pub. Speak in a relaxed way…don’t have to mind your language too much…but you don’t say stuff that’s gonna make someone sling a pint glass at you. I don’t think any of the views you highlighted are particularly insulting and if Sancho ever read the thread I’m sure he would see a balanced amount of support and also fans pissed off that one of our biggest signings ever has simply not delivered. Seems quite reasonable to me.

Right on queue. By the way, my degree isn’t in psychology so you must be confused. You did start and continue this particular issue by repeatedly calling our other posters for their opinions.

There have been some horrible comments in this thread clearly, but you are making assumptions based on next to no fact. We don't know if it's a confidence problem and if it is that may or may be down to a mental health issue. Similarly, it could be a concentration issue which may or may not stem from underlying mental health problems.

A lot of people are making assumptions based on very little and arguing them as fact.

If you’d read the thread properly you’d see that another poster was throwing their weight around by implying they are more informed and qualified in voicing their strong views due to their degree.

Keep up mate.

It hasn't worked out at all for him but he's a United player so hopefully he comes good.

ten Hag said in a press conference that the training camp in Netherlands was to aid his fitness as well as his mood.

"We want to bring him back as quickly as possible, but I can’t give a prognosis of when that will be.
"Sometimes there are circumstances with fitness and mood. We got a drop of quality level and sometimes you don’t know why or what is causing it.
"That is what we are doing now to try to get him back there. It is a combination of physically and mentally."

I was quite clear that it was to do with his confidence and state of mind which are intrinsically linked to mental health, so I'm not sure what you're taking issue with. It's almost as if people see the topic of mental health and immediately associate it with a worst case scenario of a depressive spiral or something.

He's been through a lot. Signing for Ole, watching him get sacked, Ralf come in and then ETH. The whole Ronaldo fiasco and the toxic dressing room. The club being sold. Losing his England place. Mason Greenwood. The Premier League. It's not been a great place for a young player. Hopefully ETH will settle it down and send him on a month's fitness holiday in Dubai.
He’s also had to adapt to a new league and life back in England. I’m sure his experiences in Germany are very different, and certainly the play style and intensity too. I hope he gets what he needs to come back strong and I trust ETH to bring him back to peak.

No I got that…I thought you mistook me for him. I’m clearly better looking and have a degree in football so…

You said I know nothing about the topic of Psychology. I replied that it was my degree.

Keep up, mate.

are you saying that mild MH issues are a reason for strangers on the internet to stop sharing their opinions with each other? For fear of upsetting people? I don’t get you.

The phrases 'circumstances with fitness and mood' and 'combination of physically and mentally' are not clear at all, given ETH's English can be a bit rough around the edges, with all due respect to him.
I certainly wouldn't make a full mental diagnosis off those vague statements. Confidence can be linked to fitness or decision-making as well as mental health. But I guess it's the internet and people will make up their mind based on idle speculation whatever.

There is a lot of accusations flying both ways in this thread when there is no proof it is or isn't mental health issues. You can't bring up articles or quotes from managers years ago to talk about a situation now as you have no idea if that is the case and you will be assuming just as much as those who are assuming he does have mental health issues.

I think an issue many have with those who are saying it isn't mental health though is the language and references uses. Labelling people as 'soft as feck' or referring to how much money they make are outdated views and language when considering the topic of mental health. While you can have an opinion it shouldn't absolve you from empathy for others and what they themselves may be going through. I feel as a society and a caf we have made huge progress in terms of how seriously we take mental health as a topic and especially with men as suicide is the biggest cause of death in men under the age of 50. There have been a few cases on the caf with posters struggling, myself included, and it's a great sounding board for those who need it to be in the generals and football thread. It would be nice to not have to gloss over some posts because they use outdated tropes that help nobody and are incredibly antagonistic.

Thank you for this.

I apologize if I offended you or anyone else. In retrospect I suppose it was perceived that I was calling someone with a mental disorder soft. But that was not the case at all as we have no evidence of Sancho having such and don’t know why we would need proof he doesn’t.

I don’t want to go further into it as I have already been warned despite others being nothing but polemic based on pure assumption.

But again, apologies.

What are you on about? I've not said anything of the sort. I take issue with people calling United a psychiatric hospital or saying stupidly outdated things like Sancho needing to man up.

But he quite clearly says it's to do with mood and his mentality as well as fitness, so it really isn't idle speculation. The fact he also specifically says he doesn't know why the reason for his drop off in form came about suggests it's more than solely being related to conditioning. I absolutely haven't made a full mental diagnosis and haven't seen anyone do anything of the sort. He's gone to the Netherlands to work on his conditioning and get his head back in the right place. It doesn't seem that complicated to me.

If you disagree fair enough, not sure that arguments to do with ten Hag's English or 'its the internet' are particularly compelling.

Got any proof he's mentally ill?

All I've heard is that he is not physically or mentally ready to play for Man United'
Yes. I have his medical records at hand.
FFS. Read between the lines. Its not that hard.

In the last year or so, we've lost Greenwood, Ronaldo and possibly Sancho in the most bizarre set of circumstances and with no income generated from sales. That is a lot of firepower for any club to lose, and we already had serious issues to face.

(I know the Sancho thing is hopefully temporary, but to me this does not feel like a short term issue. Mental health is not like a hamstring injury.)

I begin to wonder if Gakpo or Felix is seen as a Sancho replacement rather than a Ronaldo replacement. Just a thought.
