I thought the same thing about Dwight Yorke before we signed him. PL fans are never willing to give domestic players from outside the top 6 a chance.

Don't agree with that at all. The problem is that PL players come at a very premium price, especially young highly rated English ones. Therefore, plenty end up costing far more than they are worth and don't live up to their price tag.

Not true, Bony at Swansea, half of Southampton's squad, Stones at Everton, Benteke at Villa, Lukaku at West Brom etc.

Good examples, but generally over the years this is what i've observed.

Just as many use the "It's only because he's English and from a lower PL team that you don't want him" argument to try and dismiss views on a player.

What happened with Berahino? Havent heard a rumour about him for ages now. Has he signed a new contract?

Came to mind when i read that we will probably sell RvP, so i remembered him as a potential target.

Everton seem to be after him, Newcastle as well.

We haven't been linked with him but I'm starting to think he'd be a good option to compliment what we have namely with his pace and power. We'd all love that top class hitman but I'm not sure how they get worked into the system unless Wayne is jettisoned to the bench and made to work for his place. Chelsea have Remy and City have Bony as Aguero's insurance policy.

I'm a fan of his. He'd get goals and give us a faster target and make us more dangerous.

Whoever it is we need something new instead of Rooney. I just cannot see what Rooney gives us that marks him down as undroppable, not to mention his £12m a year salary.

Berahino or Kane would give us so much more zest and movement up front than Rooney. Pedro will give us a goal threat from a wider position but Rooney plays like a player who knows he's in the team next week, the week after and the week after that.......

At the moment competition for places down the middle is non existent and it shows.

Berahino would be super......He'd give us that pace and power option that our forward line often lacks and he'd have insane assisting team mates around him to provide on a plate for him lots of goal scoring chances.....This time last year nobody rated Kane......At worst if Berahino is not a clinical enough finisher then at least we have a season to search for a world class striker by next summer...The Express are just guessing and they are a terrible tabloid but I can't see why we would not be interested but we might need to offload Chicharito first before Van Gaal is allowed sign someone like him

i feel he will be a good addition, but then we should ask what we shall do with Wilson? It is not a terrible idea that he will remain third choice, but I feel with Hernandez here instead of Berahino, Wilson has a better chance of breaking through.

Wilson has to deliver though when he gets his chance. Van Gaal gas already alluded to this and in fairness to Hernandez he does invariably deliver when called upon. That's the level Wilson has to reach before we can seriously consider him as a viable alternative to Rooney.

Rather play Januzaj than spend 25/30m on Berahino.

I really do not see a special talent in him. He seems like just a decent mid level striker in the PL. I do not think he brings anything Chicharito or Wilson could not bring us

Sorry but he's miles ahead of Wilson,, he is a midtable PL striker at the moment, why couldnt he become better than that in the future? He's still young.

It's his speed of thought that impresses me. He's one of those players that knows what he wants to do before he even receives the ball. Extremely composed finisher too. Has hints of Yorke about him.

Same. I don't get the recent upswell of swooning about him in here either. He's decent, but light years away from the sort of player we should be looking at.

No thanks. Not good enough. He's got Liverpool written all over him.

Berahino would be a decent Hernandez replacement. Not the forward that should be challenging Rooney.

Yea, he has, in the sense that he'd probably have a Sturridge-like impact. He's an excellent talent.

I don't see why people are calling him average. He got 20 goals for an absolutely terrible side last season, and for the last season, has shown he is a goalscorer. He has pace, strength and skill. He just isn't fashionable enough, but his contribution to West Brom is no lesser than that of Vietto at Villareal, who many wanted in the summer.

A Spurs transfer if ever I saw one. Liverpool are over stocked with strikers this season so he wont be going there. Spurs need new bodies. If I were them I would be all over this guy and Hernandez.

I think people are still looking at the names on their shirts first and foremost. In theory, you wouldn't expect Berahino to challenge Rooney, but in reality today, I'd say Berahino is currently the better striker. He is more threatening. Basically, I would rather Berahino start upfront for us on Friday than Wayne Rooney in a straight choice - based on the players I currently see out on the pitch, as opposed to the reputation Rooney has built for himself over his career.

agreed, Rooney's massively overrated. A shadow of his young himself. Based on performances on the pitch there are dozen of strikers in the premier league who could challenge him for the starting spot.. problem is that some still think he's world class
