Someone on Saints-Web saying they "know his agent" and that "Mane's going nowhere". Possibly nonsense, but nobody seemed to pull him up on it, so maybe he does...

They also say he's in training as normal today as they have a big game tonight, so unlikely that he's due at Carrington.
They seem to regard him as their best attacking option so they won't let him go at this stage. It's not like they're desperate for money and they've only had him one season.

Mané vs Chelsea last season. Can understand more why John Terry put him in his PFA team of the year.

Proper winger this lad, he'd probably be a backup to our LW and RW. Doesn't look like Southampton are willing to let him go easily, could be expensive.

I think Pereira has earned a chance but LVG doesn't even name him on the bench.

Who would you leave off the bench? I'm sure Pereira made the bench vs Spurs

Definitely wasn't on CL bench, can't remember Villa. Wilson has been left out completely.

He was on the bench vs Spurs as I said. However the real question is who would you have left out of the squad for him.
Bastian, Herrera, Hernandez Young were all on the bench.

So no real news on mane yet today then? It all has gone a bit quiet really.

I'm surprised actually that we haven't pushed the boat out and made another signing.

Up until a week ago we looked like we'd really improved and caught up with Chelsea and City. Now though they've both added players this week and I expect both to add one more each before the window closes. Suddenly we haven't quite caught up as much as I thought.

None of them. He's not good enough to replace any of them yet. He's no Ronaldo.

Exactly. I was responding to someone saying he has earned his spot on the bench. He clearly hasn't. We have a talented squad. However he did make the bench vs Spurs so he is in the managers thoughts.

Dirty cnuts.. I really can't abide them nor their self rightious, self adoring prat of a manager..

Mané looks like a handful.. Could add some bite to our attacking options .. But yeah, won't be an easy player to sign.

This really confuses me. His technique is not good enough, surprised LVG is after him.

I suppose we can't find anyone else for that bit of extra pace we might want in some games?

Can't believe we're going for him after being linked with such world class talent.

Sell Di Maria, sign Mane.

Get Fergie back; Van Gaal hasn't got a bloody clue when it comes to transfers.

Yup, under Fergie it was all rosy with transfers even when we replaced Ronaldo with Owen and Valencia.

What worries me is that everywhere I am reading that one of Pedro's best assets is his speed. He's lightening quick and turns defence to attack in the blink of an eye (sounds a lot like Willian that). But I'm also reading that his passing isn't the best so maybe that's what put LVG off...

I rather stick with what we have for this season and move for a big name next summer.

While I personally rate Mane from the matches I've seen, this link just seems a bit strange. I'd be surprised if it happens to be fair, I don't think Southampton will let him go easily either.

Feck sake, Pedro's played so many matches for a passing machine in Barca. Highly doubt it's because of Pedro's passing.

To be fair to Mané he scored 10 goals in 30 games in his first premier league season last year. Pedro managed 6 in 35 (or 11 in 50) for a better team although I hardly watched Barca last year so not sure what role he played.

If we play Mane + Chicharito vs Chelsea are we guaranteed a win?

Statistically, Mane has Pedro beat in most categories, which is surprising.

I think the fact a bid was apparently placed last week with no reply yet says what you need to know about this transfer.

Thats at the bridge too right? The way people are turning their noses up on him you would think he is a bad footballer.

Here we go lads and ladies! I'm gonna hold quite tightly onto this bunch of straws until we fail to sign him.

Bet he would have beat Pedro at assists if he was feeding Barca's attack and all.

I'm all for investing in young(er) players who haven't yet reached a peak. Mane does look like a player that can come in and make an immediate contribution. If it's true that we missed out on Pedro and we really did want him, it's best not to panic about Mane being second choice. We have a scouting system that works for van Gaal according to the specifications he looks for. First, second, third targets. We obviously didn't pluck Mane out the air out of desperation. We have to keep in mind that all the players we go for must have something to contribute immediately, otherwise, we wouldn't be showing apparent interest in them.
