He looked very good again this weekend. Problem i have is, the best attacking play we have done has centered around Herrera and Mata. With this new French lad and possibly Mane and rooney being undroppable. Where does that leave Mata and Herrera?

Mata might as well be out of the team the way we play him, especially in aways

If we sign Mané as well then we are completely overstocked in our attacking midfield and non of which would look that deadly.

Overstocked? We currently have Mata, Memphis and Young for the wide options, and two CM's makeshifting as #10's.

I'd be very keen to get him.

Mane/Mata--------Herrera/Pereira--------Memphis/Young
Rooney/Martial

I don't see Southampton caving though. It would make sense to see us dip into the PL market though. Get the Europeans League transfers out of the way today, as getting them tomorrow would be difficult given their window would have shut by then to replace them.

Mata, Memphis, Young, Martial, Herrera, Januzaj, Pereira, Valencia can all play there. We should just stop buying wingers until we can get a hold of Bale, Muller or Reus.

Martial is a striker, Herrera is a CM, Januzaj is on loan at Dortmund for the season, Pereira is a kid and Valencia is horrendous in attack, he's a back up RB these days and nothing more. I wasn't suggesting we buy Mane just to clarify, but we need another forward injection in the side within the next 24 hours IMO, preferably one that mean less Mata at RW and less Ashley Young in general.

Martial is a striker not a winger, and when he does play wide it is on the left not the right.

So he's a right footed left winger? (I know feck all about him).

Surely with our current setup he fits in nicely on the right, moving Mata in behind Rooney. Can't see him taking Rooney's spot, he's LVG's first name on the teamsheet.

I know, wrong thread for this discussion :)

I hear you. If Wilson goes out on loan we desperately need another striking option. I just really think there are better options out there that don't play for Southampton. I feel we've left it too late to sign anyone of any real quality now seeing as all the windows are shut and teams are unwilling to sell.

Yeah, most wide players these days play on the side that allows him to cut in on his strongest shooting foot when he plays wide, but in truth he's a #9.

I actually think it's more likely that Martial will play as the #9 and Rooney will play as the #10, I don't think Mata will ever play as a #10 for LvG, he's just much too weak and can't get turned.

I keep forgetting which thread I am in things are moving so fast. :D

If we ever sign Mane, I have the prefect chant for him:

The Apprentice theme song with Mane instead of Money.

 Love it!

He did a wonderful little shake of the hips in the last game and just drifted by his marker. Was pretty slick. Sort of shit we need against packed defences. A man that can actually beat a man.

Isn't he just Nani? a less proven albiet younger nani?
I doubt he's that technically gifted. If he was a younger Nani it would be a no brainer to sign him. Nani didn't live up to expectations but in terms of talent he was immense.

Yeah thats what i mean, why did nani not get a look in then suddenly we are looking to sign someone with the same skillset for a 25m loss?

Nani had the tools but never got that level of consistency needed. He really could have been a top top player for us but one day he looked class the next he'd look awful. Talent wise though he was right up there. Some young players develop that ability and form consistency whilst others don't. Mane could develop... Of course maybe he won't but that's a risk you take with all young players. Is martial consistent? No but if he develops in to the player everyone expects then it's great business.

Anyone else think there's a good chance he will be a United player by 6pm?

Maybe but not really sure how good he is?

Ffs don't bump this for no reason on deadline day!

Also how is the poll not
Yay
Nay
Mané

This one has gone very quiet... Southampton dug their heels in and maybe we moved on to other targets? Not sure so late on the day we will see this one happen but maybe.

Everytime I see this thread bumped I piss myself thinking we have signed him. This thread needs a lock until 6pm. Just for the sake of my bladder.

Maybe Martial was that other target.

We should focus on a more central player if we sign Martial. Someone who can also play up front. An older, more proven player.
