We already have young talented players in Januzaj and Perreira. I'd rather concentrate on getting the best tout of them than sign yet another talented young player.

He's decent imo, but a few levels below Pedro. If we sign him, we sign him, and maybe it'll work out. Gotta trust LvG on this one, he knows his job is riding on this year's performances so if he wants a player I have to think that he knows what he wants. The only concern I'd have is that he wants players we haven't been able to sign.

I followed Mane quite closely during his time for RB Salzburg. He has been the best player in the Austrian league for most of the time. He formed a great attacking line with Kampl, Soriano and Alan.
He was also one of the main actors when RBS trashed Ajax and defeated Bayern 3:0 in a friendly. I was pretty obvious for everyone following Austrian football that he will leave rather sooner than later so it was not a big surprise that he went to Southampton.
It might have been a good move to go to a mid-table team in one of Europe`s top leagues before entering the main stage.
Kampl who directly joined one of the big guns (Dortmund) is spending most of the time now on the bench. He was not able to adapt as fast as Mane did.

It might sound like an underwhelming signing. Selling AdM and then going down the muppet pecking order Bale-Müller-Pedro-Mane does not sound very attractive but Mane and Memphis could become one of the very best pairing of wingers.

Bayern has also been linked to Mane 2 months ago before the went for Costa. And he was close to signing for Dortmund.

For something like 15 Mio pounds I would take the risk.

Just one thing: His behaviour when he forced his move to Southampton was really bad. He just did not turn up for the game against Mamö. I guess that was the reason for Dortmund to stop negotiations.

I absolutely agree. There's no doubt if the guy played for a similar level team in a different league, there would be a very different attitude in this thread.

We are possibly choosing Mane over Pedro. Pedro is a multi Champions League winner with Barcelona, a World Cup winner with Spain. He is a top quality player and the type of player we should be buying. Mane is no doubt a good player but he does not stand out at Southampton the way Shaw & Schneiderlin did. We should be buying players that can help us challenge for trophies.

Just read a bit at saintsweb and most of the posters there seem to rate Mane as their best attacking player by quite a margin.
His biggest asset is that he is quite unpredictable and can produce something anytime. With him and Memphis we would have 2 players who are hard to defend.

However, I think he is still a bit inconsistent. At his best he reminds me of Nani during his peak - just a bit rougher.

He has potential but inconsistency is the last thing we need at the moment. That's why Pedro would have been perfect, in my opinion.

At 4am last night I texted my girlfriend in my sleep "That you had Mané on loaning almost here was great!!!!"

I'm not sure what that means but I think it means it's on!!

Not overly fussed about Pedro falling through. He would have been a good signing, but not the match winner we need. However, if we dropped our interest in him to sign Mane, I'll be very disappointed. I don't think he's United quality and as has been said, I'd rather give Januzaj and Pereira a proper chance.

So Southampton shelled out 12m for him? And they are saying they don't want to sell and will reject any offer..Doesn't sound like they will play ball unless he kicks up a fuss. We shouldn't throw silly money at them. Move on to the next target please.

I just have to (or maybe it's not want) to believe that yesterday we received positive news from Southampton that a deal could be done? Otherwise we wouldn't have let the Pedro deal slip away.

how does anyone think the Aguero, Silva's, Hazards etc make it to the top?. They were given chances as young unproven players who showed potential. Some make it to the top (Ronaldo) others never fully realise their potential but still get excellent careers (Rooney). Im all for taking a young player who shows potential and giving them the best chance to become a superstar. If we bought Mane and he became a world beater for us worth serious money. Who would be complaining then?. People get too carried away with the name.

Darmian looks an amazing purchase but many wrote him off before he signed because his name wasnt "Alves" etc. Im a little skeptical because of the African thing that effects clubs every other year, but in terms of strength, pace, skill, and an eye for goal. He looks very very good. Younger and cheaper than pedro too.

Sounds like BS, but still worth posting:

This guy claims to be a freelance journo for MEN and United We Stand.

Yeah probably BS. The Carrington guy would get the sack if it turned out to be true and United notice the news was leaked.

Southampton will feel confident to let this go on for 10 or so days until the window closes. If it was start of August then I'd say we stand a chance in signing him.

I would actually be right behind this signing. But I don't think its gunna happen, I can't see Southampton accepting anything less than £30m at this stage and I don't think we'll pay it.

That amount would be silly. Even in nowadays market.

I don't really like comparing players to each other, but I can see the Nani one too.
I definitely don't like buying rival's cast-offs and rejects. Rather Mane than Pedro anyway for me.

Did anyone get sacked for the Morgan S blood sample howler? Surely that was worse.

I like the thought of Mane, but will be definately more expensive than Pedro, and i cant see us going for him at 25m+

We should be showing Chelsea by going out and signing a big name, instead we are scuttling off with our tails between our legs. We are a big club, but at times don't act like one.

Can't believe we're going for him after being linked with such world class talent.

Sell Di Maria, sign Mane.

Get Fergie back; Van Gaal hasn't got a bloody clue when it comes to transfers.

Is he not a left winger like Memphis?

I'd rather get Bolasie tbh. Would be cheaper as well.

Someone on Saints-Web saying they "know his agent" and that "Mane's going nowhere". Possibly nonsense, but nobody seemed to pull him up on it, so maybe he does...

They also say he's in training as normal today as they have a big game tonight, so unlikely that he's due at Carrington.

OR

Perhaps to distract other teams by saying supposedly United wanted to sign Player A (e.g. Clyne) but in actual really discussed about Player B (e.g. Darmian) so there won't be too much attention heading towards Darmian by other teams.
I love the idea that other clubs don't actually scout players and make up their own mind but instead wait and see who other clubs are going after to decide who to pursue. It's all so professional sounding

All you all right, you've been overreacting the whole day?

Sell Ronaldo and sign Valencia, Obertan and Owen ring a bell?

To be fair Fergie sold Ronaldo and bought Valencia and Owen.
