Ryan Shawcross back at United?

Not really. I bet there's more players that have left and come back over the years but specifically under Fergie was the question i thought.

It didn't say that though, it just pondered who Fergie had brought back to United. Thats how I read it anyway.
I really cannot think of many who have left and then come back as players. I keep wanting to say Ronaldo, but that is for the future!!

Old quotes, we really shouldn't sell any young player without a buy back clause.

If I m not wrong, if Stoke sell we will get a percentage of the fee. If that's the case Fergie has an interest in hiking Shawcross' price.

We usually sell young players because they're not good enough (Shawcross) or they'd rather be somewhere else(Pique). That doesn't change after they've left.

Very rarely is there a young player we let go of that we really regret letting go of, so I can't see why there's any need to put in a buy-back clause. Except because it works in FM.

There's obviously a reason most teams don't do it.

I can't think of any academy players you've let go that you would regret (same with us).

You could argue that if you'd kept Upson, Pennant and Bentley for that little bit longer, you could have commanded much higher transfer fees. Upson is probably around the same level of the likes of Squillacci, Djourou and Koscielny anyway.

And I believe a certain Andrew Cole came from the Arsenal academy..

Hughes wasnt Fergies player to start with

no it doesnt fecking count :nono:

you said "how many times has Fergie brought a player back"

the inference drawn from that was "back" meaning back to Manchester Utd

if you meant Fergie buying a player back who he had originaly sold you should have made that clear

Wouldn't want him back. He's a decent defender but a bit one-dimensional. Would rather an intelligent player like Evans getting his shot, who has so much more potential.

Shawcross is physically tough, but rash, positionally naive and hopeless on the ball. It's what you get when you're learning you way in the EPL for Stoke I suppose.

Ferguson talks up ryan shawcross. Is our interest real or simply we re making life difficult for other parties interested?

Fergie does rate Shawcross very highly, and has said in previous interviews that if he had known that Pique would leave on ground of being "homesick" a few months down the line then he wouldn't have sold Shawcross at all. I think he just means that given our defensive problems with injuries it would have been handy to hold on to a talented CB, can't see us going for him now he's built his reputation as being a "brute", and that's not the kind of player that we want to be associated with.

i dont think that fergie is bothered by shawcross 'brute' reputation. Vidic is not very different in that regards.

There's a big difference between being a tough-tackling, body-on-the-line type of defender in comparison to the generalisation of the Stoke defence.

He is considered 10 times more brute after his tackle on Ramsey and because he plays for Stoke.

Wouldn't mind him back.

Don't see how we need him, unless Jones is going to play in midfield.

I rate him highly.

I used too.

For me he hasn't really kicked on in the way he should have. In his first 2 Premier League seasons I was impressed with the way he read the game and snuffed out attacks but his game has shifted now to being about how much of a mark he can leave on his opponent.

He's still very good, obviously, but not someone I'd like to see us sign.

Very good defender a bit like Wes Brown but less injury prone and haven't we got some kind of option? Would be a very handy addition to our squad.

I doubt it. If we had one to begin with (which i doubt personally) I doubt it would still be in place 5 years after we sold him.
