Ryan Shawcross back at United?

So say if we agreed with Stoke he was worth 10 million and we had a 50 percent sell on we could forego our percentage agreement and have him back for 5 ?

I dont think so, but rather that we would get half of the fee Stoke would get if selling to another club

Does Fergie rate Smalling higher then Shawcross?

He might think he has better potential but i think its more a case of being the right fit. Smalling i'm sure has been bought as Rio's long term replacement. Assuming Vidic isnt going anywhere and will remain first choice for a number of years, then Shawcross would be much too similar in style to be a decent partner for him.

Don't be a wise ass. This whole forum is based on conjecture.

Probably. So far I would say Shawcross is much more proven.

He is indeed more proven. Same as Cahill is more proven than Bebe. But in both cases we were probably looking at players who will be good long term, rather than who can do the best job now.

How do people rate him in terms of say.....

Gary Cahill
Jones
Wheater

Not sure hes better than Cahill personally

Is that Jones from Blackburn? I have not seen him play..

I think he is below the likes of Cahill and Wheater although I dunno if it has any affect on things but Wheater has been in the Championship 2 seasons in a row now..

He'd never get a game. So it wont happen. Not with Rio still around.

I think Rio's done (perhaps wishful thinking I know)

Shawcross is a good player but I've heard his knees are shot.

Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho plotting shock move for Stoke defender Ryan Shawcross
Jose Mourinho is lining up a shock move for Stoke City centre half Ryan Shawcross, according to reports in Spain.

The Real Madrid boss is keen to bolster his ranks without breaking the bank in January and Shawcross has been tipped as his No 1 defensive target.

The 23-year-old is highly regarded on the continent and has also been linked with Juventus, while Madrid also fear a battle with Manchester United and Liverpool for his services.

The former United youth player was handed a debut England call-up by Fabio Capello in March but was an unused substitute for the match against Egypt.

Madrid-based newspaper AS says Mourinho is an admirer of Shawcross’s physical style, which made headlines when his tackle seriously injured Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey last season.

Mourinho is also keen on £25million-rated Ajax hot shot Luis Suarez, who has also attracted interest from Barcelona, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

Here look I can use it as a template

Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho plotting shock move for Stoke midfielder Rory Delap

Jose Mourinho is lining up a shock move for Stoke City midfielder Rory Delap, according to reports in Spain.

The Real Madrid boss is keen to bolster his ranks without breaking the bank in January and Delap has been tipped as his No 1 set piece target.

The 34-year-old is highly regarded on the continent and has also been linked with Juventus, while Madrid also fear a battle with Manchester United and Liverpool for his services.

The former Carlisle youth player was not handed a debut England call-up by Fabio Capello in March and was not an unused substitute for the match against Egypt.

Madrid-based newspaper AS says Mourinho is an admirer of Delap’s physical style, which made headlines when he managed to create a goalscoring opportunity with a throw in taken from a car park across the road from the Britannia.

Mourinho is also keen on £25million-rated Ajax hot shot Luis Suarez, who has also attracted interest from Croydon Town, Queensland Fury and Dagenham and Redbridge.

fecking hell I didn't realise Delap was that old

Don't think its as ridiculous as some are suggesting. He's a very good young centre back, would be content to sit on the bench and wouldn't cost much in wages. If Mourinho was in the market why not?

Because its in the same article as suggesting Madrid want Suarez.

It suggests he's highly rated on the continent despite having no european experience, very few european clubs are likely to have been scouting and watching Stoke and us overlooking him in favour of Smalling to "be content sitting on the bench and not cost much in wages".

If Mourinho wants a cheap defender he can get one in la liga. Botia perhaps.

I doubt Mourinho would care about cheapness here. He likes good defenders and Shawcross is a good young defender. But IMHO he wont be interested because there is no more room for CB's in his optimum squad size.

Recycled story. Liverpool were linked with him at the weekend and because of our first-option, the press have automatically linked him with a return to OT. The scout was probably there to see Cleverley play.

Not sure why we would want Shawcross back if you ask me! He is good but not United good. It will be interesting to see how he develops over the next couple of years as he is still young but at the moment, I do not see him being more than a mid-Premier League standard defender.

If he does continue to improve then he may well prove to be a decent replacement for Vidic and a similar type of pure defender.

Evans is shit though. And that's the first time ever I've called a United player shit.

Not sure I believe you that he is the first United player to be called shit by you. And if he is, Jesus!!!!

There are several players who have played for United over the years who are far wore than Jonny Evans
