Ruud van Nistelrooy | Leaves United

I hope the club leaves it to Amorim personally, don’t want him having staff forced upon him.
Ruben will obviously bring a few of his staff from Sporting, but would make sense, at least in my head, to have a guy like that on, who is already clued up on the players and the club.

Is he the handsomest man to take charge post Fergie. Looks dapper on the sidelines.

It's between Giggs, Jose, Carrick and him, and I think he wins it.

On another note: Looked the part in the presser. Hope he remains a part of the coaching set-up this season and then goes on to kick his managerial career elsewhere. Maybe one day he'll come back to us after he has proven himself.

I agree. He should not make the same mistake as Moyes

It definitely makes sense to have a transitionary figure in there - of course this is nothing to do with the fact he's my all-time favourite player. Still looks great in his late 40s and his English is on point too even by Dutch standards (ETH and Edgar Davids aside).

I disagree, we need to let go of this sentimental need of having old boys around the place.

This is a totally different entity to when Ruud played here and having him around instead of wanting him around isn’t the way to go.

I don’t blame Moyes for what he did, ultimately he failed yes but he tried to do it his way with his staff which is the correct way.

In what regard is he a transitionary figure? He has been only here for a very unsuccessful 3-4 months. If there is any transition figure then I presume it will be Fletcher as I don't see him going any where.

Apart from sentiment and because he wants to stay, I've seen nothing to warrant him staying. If Amorim wants him then that's fair enough, but that's the only way he should stay.

Come on Ruud, send the lads out to score goals against Chelsea. Plenty of goals will do

He is way more impressive as an individual than either EtH or Solskjaer. It's just a pity the timing isn't right to give him a shot. Hope he moves on and does a good job as a no. 1 somewhere else.

I think the sensible approach might be for him to stay until the end of the season to help Amorim with getting to know the club during this initial period, and also to avoid any narrative about one of his first actions being getting rid of a club legend because you know what fans and the media are like, before we part ways in the summer.

Apparently Ruud had a dig after the Leicester game. Rumours are it was directed at Martin Keown who blamed him exclusively for the issues United were having this season, not Ten Hag, not the players, just Ruud. Rent free…

Oh I get that. What I'm struggling with is the idea that he was hoping that Martin Keown was watching Dutch Tv and would understand what he's saying to him, in Dutch.
Yep! The no one in Holland is sure who he is referring to either but that’s just the rumour. Apparently his son is called Liam also so he could have just been dedicating the win to him, which is more likely but not as fun as Keown getting shit.

Oh wow! He hated 'Aggy too. :o

I'm definitely going with the L for Liam explanation though!

Side note. That's such an adorable thing to do

Someone on that Reddit mentioned that it's also a Fortnite celebration of sorts, which would also fit with the idea that it's for his son. Which would be cool, yeah. :)

Hope he can steer us to a win of any kind this weekend, as PAOK & Leicester at home should be wins. Getting 4 wins under him, would leave us in a good position moving forward under Amorim.

Previous interim managers record:

Giggs - 2 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat
Ole (interim period) - 14 wins, 2 draws, 3 defeats
Carrick - 2 wins and 1 draw
Rangnick - 11 wins, 10 draws, 8 defeats

Ole and Rangnick were interims for longer periods but Ruud's situation is similar to Giggs' and Carrick. Only one managing every game at Old Trafford which is interesting. Think it would've been better if ten Hag got sacked before last International break (so after Villa game) but still interesting to see him in charge even if it's only for few games.

Imagine being told in 2010 that all of Giggs, Ole, Carrick and Van Nistelrooy would all have managed Manchester United within the next 14 years.

We won 11 times under Ralf :wenger:

Bit harsh to kick Ten Hag when he's already down.

That simian-faced bastard can go and do one.

I really hope he gets to stay on board as coach.

Hope so as well but with Amorim adamant that all his coaches come with him or no deal I reckon most likely no place for Ruud.

I hope the set piece coach stays, we seem to be doing better on set pieces since he has joined

I think the portuguese GK coach Jorge Vital is coming in as well.
Yeah Amorim seems to be insisting on that but we got the GK coach after he had just joined his previous club. So we really pushed for him I'm sure the payoff for him might be significant. Some compromise might be needed on the GK coach front with Amorim.

Moyes cleared all our staff and brought his own which turned out to be a shitshow. I’d like Ruud there in some capacity. Even as a strikers coach.

As I’ve said previously I still support that Moyes did that, rightly or wrongly a manager/head coach has to have his own staff around him.

Moyes failed but others will succeed. I like RvN but he’s been away from the club a long time and it’s a different club to what he left back then and hasn’t exactly set the world alight in his management career.

Also he’s over qualified for a strikers coach role so that’s a non starter.

Ruud has a 2 year contract so he will be paid handsomely if/when he leaves...it's expensive removing/replacing coaches.

I just want to enjoy his interim spell without having to worry about anything going sour.
