Well considering Russia's initial goals I think we can be lucky they are far away from the total destruction of a nation.
Also, I'm not sure sanctions relief can be a part of the peace deal, considering its out of Ukraine's direct control. Unless they want to involve the US and EU in the negotiations too, which will be odd.

In 2-3Y Russia almost won’t have any gas/oil consumers in Europe and this change is going to be permanent. No sanctions will be lifted while Putin is in charge and until occupied territories will be given back together with the war recuperations.

European countries and the United States have imposed heavy sanctions on Russia since Moscow sent troops into Ukraine on Feb. 24.
GAIL has a long-term gas import deal with Gazprom Marketing & Trading Singapore to annually buy 2.5 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas and has been settling trade with Gazprom in dollars.
GAIL, which imports and distributes gas, also operates India’s largest gas pipeline network.
Last week, Gazprom wrote to GAIL requesting that the company settle payments for gas purchases in euros instead of dollars, the sources familiar with the matter said, adding the state-run Indian firm is still examining the request.
“GAIL doesn’t see any problem in settling payment in euros as European countries are paying for their imports in euros,” said one of the sources."

I think it's specifically Europe that the ruble condition applies to ("unfriendly [EU] nations" was the term). Remains to be seen if they stick to the demand.
Lots of rumours that Russia is going to use chemical weapons. Their officers are getting Pralidoxime shots. If this happens, I can see NATO intervening.

I believe they only threatened the switch to Ruble settlements from 'unfriendly nations'. For instance, I'm sure they said Serbia could maintain payments as before.

Maybe I am being optimistic but it seems Russia is moving the goal posts after failing to make any progress. They are going to make it look like they have achieved their objective of denazifying and liberating people domestically.
