Russian invasion of Ukraine | Fewer tweets, more discussion

So he cut a deal with Prigozhin but now he’s saying he will be held to account?

Wonder what power that blyat actually has. Must be well connected otherwise I can't see how he is still avoiding windows update.
The odd thing about him is that he actually seems competent for what it's worth. Russia could use him in this war but he seems to be sitting it out from the sidelines?

He was there in 14. Maybe he got too ambitious and they pushed him out.

To me this just made it even more apparent that Putin has no idea how to handle this situation.

He's clueless and somewhat feckless. He's also appeared to somehow manage to misread the room as if going on TV would magically result in business as usual again.

I just watched some clips of Ukraine soldiers in the minefield. probably the worst I've seen in a loooong time so I'm not posting it. it's simply crazy how we managed to come to this.

Wagner mutiny: Prigozhin's soldiers rage while others cry conspiracy

Yevgeny Prigozhin may have boasted he had the loyalty of all 25,000 members of his mercenary army, but it seems that may have shifted as quickly as the Wagner Group's rebellion petered out.

In online messages analysed by BBC Verify, Wagner troops and their relatives raged against Prigozhin's decision to halt his dramatic march on Moscow and withdraw from the captured city of Rostov. "The bald waste of space destroyed Wagner PMC with his own hands. And screwed everyone he could," fumed one online poster claiming to be a Wagner fighter on a Telegram channel with 200,000 followers.

They're quoting one poster on Telegram. I would hardly think this is the prevailing sentiment.

I've seen the one you're likely referring to. Tough watch indeed. Those mines are a bitch.

You see a Ukrainian jumping on a mine and losing his leg.

He’ll be held to account but those who wish to join him in Belarus are able to do so…like what is going on?
I doubt he even knows. Probably something like as long as they are in Belarus, we won't try to extradite them. If they get back to Russia , we arrest them.

This little nugget made me chuckle. The conversation between Lukashenko & Prigozhin was "masculine".

He's FSB and pretty much accredited with taking the Donbas in 2014 from what I gather, so a bit of a Russian hero I guess. He was on the ground there in the first days, taking the police stations and organising the 'protests'.

Something I always wonder if there's any truth in; Bill Browder in his book talks about a contact he had, that helped him on occasion, who claimed to be FSB. This guy claimed there was a split in the FSB, as in its not all one happy family doing Putin's bidding. So guys like Girkin could be protected by a particular faction.

That poor fecker at the end who confidently jumped into a muddy area, certain that there were no mines there. Horrible.

Absolutely horrific and incredibly heroic. That guy at the end self applied a tourniquet on what remained of his leg in less than 25 seconds. Looked like they got everyone in the Bradley by the end.

Why do you think he wants rid of Putin? If it wasn't for him he would have been an ex dictator by now, probably drinking vodka with Yanukovich.
Because they hate each other since the 90s. Lukashenko at that time had ambitions to become Russia's leader (and further uniting Belarus and Russia to make that possible).

He needed Putin's support to stay in power, but so far he managed quite well to stay out of trouble about Ukraine, got some nukes and might now get a battle-hardened army that is actually respected in Russia. Wagner also gives him access to Africa due to their activities there.

Brokering deals that benefit him/Belarus while Russia is sanctioned into oblivion could well be his endgame here, but he needs to be careful so that the Russian army in Belarus won't get rid of him.

When Russia delivered the nukes he publicly stated that so far no country owning nuclear weapons was ever attacked, so he needed them as a security guarantee. That is a correct observation, but one can wonder if he meant Russia that has to be deterred...

You say got some nukes as if he has control over them. Nothing can be further from the truth. This notion really needs to die.

Yeah, Russia stationing some of its weapons in Belarus, does not make Belarus a nuclear armed country.

There'd be much more outrage and concern from the west if this were the case.

Girkin on point again. This was clearly an attempt to overthrow the government and it's far from over.

I am sure at the moment he hasn't, I agree. But I am also sure that he will try to change that.
