Russian invasion of Ukraine | Fewer tweets, more discussion

Well, he has sent thousands of his employees into death for something he now says is unjustified. So yeah, a low bar.

Probably, but if he does really have a concentrated force of 20k troops, he likely outnumbers opposition anywhere near him right now.

If Prigozhin actually intends to hold Rostov hostage it could be a decent plan for him. It's a logistic hub for a big part of the front and the town would give him some safety from Russian aviation, they wouldn't bomb their own city. A big column towards Moscow would be surely annihilated on the way. He has enough experience to understand such things I'd assume.

They would lay siege to it and get him eventually.

Err, that would completely depend on if it had any resemblance of factual reporting, which I of course would have to refer to actual legitimate news sources for, not NYT or CNN.

No, of course it wouldn't depend on that. The victory you cited in favour of you and your kindred spirit being right is completely irrelevant in the larger scheme of things, and you know that. When I asked if you two were right, the only correct answer was that you weren't. If CNN/NYT said that the counter offensive was failing, and cited a similar Russian victory as evidence, you would rightly laught at it because it would be stupid.

So is he trying to destroy the army or take control of it?

More likely get into a confrontation with it to make a point against its leader Shoygu. Unfortunately, he's now crossed a red line and will probably die very soon once the Russian army organize and find him.

Whatever the case surely this can't be bad for Ukraine or good for Putin?

And don't call me Shirley.

Have we arrived to the stage of the invasion where Russia is fighting his invasion on russian soil? Or is it too premature yet?

At this point the RA needs a contingent securing Rostov, another one in Belgorod, plus the one permanently stationed in Moscow. And of course, a bunch more fighting on the war fronts of Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporzhizhia and Kherson.

I see. Thanks.

Hopefully this whole thing is good news for Ukraine.

Wagner is a creation of Putin, which is now fighting the Russian army. So you could saw that, although for how long it goes is anyone's guess. Mine is that it will probably be over soon once the Russian military have a chance to come up with a plan to shut everything down.

Any chance there’s a deal with Ukraine in place here?

Out of the loop here.

This power grab from Prigozhin... is it for the Russian army or actually toppling Putin?

Everyone seems to be going with the idea its just against the heads of the MoD, Shoigu and Gerasimov, as that's what Prigozhin says... Not sure I understand that myself as surely the Russian MoD is the Russian armed forces, Putin's armed forces.

Good point, but the air force may be enough to stop him from entering Moscow.

20k whatever Wagner troops would have been doing good marching deep inside the Russian though? Since most of the Russian army are in UA right now.

Between Ukraine and whom? No one can be trusted. Occam's razor points toward standard russian incompetence.

Spot on. Every media involved has the credibility of the twitter sources in the sale thread. We'll have to wait and see I guess, but every issue in the RA is a net gain for Ukraine at this point.

Yeah, he definitely is walking a tight rope right now and probably choosing his words carefully to maintain a very delicate balance.

If this is the beginning of some form of insurrection, stating that your attack is against the MoD, who are incredibly unpopular with his own forces and the Russia forces they are about to face, will probably be far more beneficial in the short term than coming out immediately and saying you are fighting against Putin. He has also mentioned that the MoD is purposely keeping Putin in the dark about what is happening in Ukraine, so he can probably save face with his own forces by claiming the insurrection is not only not directly against Putin, in fact, it will eventually serve Putin's interests.

Alright, there's too much going on right now and I may have had a few too many to understand your argument, but it appears your defending news sources that are obviously obsolete in the context of Ukraine.

I don't think all of either Wagner or the Russian Army were in Ukraine. There is still training and recruitment going in Russia. Plus Wagner also have people in Syria and Africa.

Considering what we've heard and seen about the army around him, I have zero doubts that the Kremlin could have killed him before today. It's different now, but if they really do want him gone he will be within the next week or two.
Prigozhin has spent the last 6 months close to the front among his fighters while Putin and Shoigu has been hiding in their bunkers. I'm pretty sure Prigozhin has earned more trust with his fighters compared to the bunker tsars in Kremlin.

In the sense that you are defending random nobodies citing karma as an intel source, sure.

If he had been planning this for months, he would or should have been transporting his best guys and the majority of troops to the main land.
