Russian invasion of Ukraine | Fewer tweets, more discussion

So far Russia's most important military and intelligence branches (FSB, GRU, National Anti-Terrorism Committee, Procecuter's office, Surovikin and some other generals) made a public statement against Prigozhin. So either they are all loyal to Putin und Prigozhin has zero chance of a coup, or some of them just react as it is expected and want to see, how much Prigozhin can actually achieve. I can imagine Putin ordered all those branches to be watched right now.

Feel like if they can’t find/stop Prigozhin very quickly we’ll see this snowball into something huge. Much of what we hear about Russia is about the average civilian outside of the big metropolitan areas getting treated poorly, not getting paid well and not living to a high standard and those are the areas who have sent the most soldiers, recipe for a lot of RA support to grow behind Wagner.

This would be a great time for the Ukrainians to launch a couple of internal sabotage attacks in Moscow and St. Pete.

At this point no semi intelligent russian soldier can believe they are "liberating" Ukraine. From jewish Nazi's none the less

I don't know, how many Americans thought they were in Iraq to protect America years into that invasion?

He'd be nuts to turn himself in, as he will never be seen again.

He's done now whatever happens. Either he turns himself in and spends the rest of his life in solitary confinement, or he tries to claim asylum in the west, gets prosecuted for war crimes and then gets assasinated by Russian agents anyway. Plenty of buildings with high windows in Europe.

I honestly wouldn't get excited about this having any teeth, even if none of it was orchestrated by Moscow itself. For decades Putin has literally replaced anything from mid to upper level management of all levels of organisations, politics and military. Plenty of reading material out there about it, but unless I am missing something -I can't see how a Wagner can make a serious challenge to not just one person, but an entire system that is entirely reliant upon every layer working in tandem.

The challenge will have to come from the very inner circle. If the Wagner group managed to find that kind of support, rather than this just being a military operation -perhaps it does have some teeth.

Would be interesting to know if they really feel like this, or just the Social Media admin. One can only hope that a proper civil war starts in Russia for at least a couple of weeks. That would give Ukraine an immense advantage on the battlefield.

And ricin tipped umbrellas.

So let me get this straight, because there surely is no going back from this when publically announced. The Russian state has officially initiated a criminal case against Prigozhin?

They're probably screwed since Wagner as an organization will likely cease to exist very soon.

Hopefully some US and other NATO Embassies will see an influx of walk-ins tonight and over the next couple days.

I'm not getting my hopes up. This is probably just the person or the people who have control of the accounts. It doesn't actually mean anything. There's most certainly not going to be any civil war, or any real fighting (beyond maybe a skirmish with a few loyalists), or a coup.

What's the end game here? Surely its certain death... unless he believes he can actually displace Putin..

Attacking the Russian army surely means there is no going back now..
If the whole army were against him, he'd surely know he'd be on a suicidal mission. Maybe he has just lost it, if not, he must have a realistic hope of gaining support by some branches of the army. Sound pretty wild, but what Prigozhin has done tonight, is wild in deed.

How does Putin hide this from the Moscow general population? He has shielded them from the war to keep them happy thus far. Reality settling in tonight?

He may as well go all in at this point since he's not coming out of this alive unless he manages to topple the entire regime.
He has to have had some key assurances at the highest circles of the Kremlin / armed forces to undertake this decidedly batshit mission. Or at least he thought he did.

After Surovikin, a second general was brought to the same place to make a statement against Prigozhin. Their highest generals look like hostages who have to read some prepared statement

He can't, mainly because too much as leaked out about it on telegram (which is why they tried to block Wagner channels). Unless he shuts down communications across the country, other social media will be talking about this, which will only make it worse.

If it's a civil war, I think it will be a war between armies. The Russians in general have been busy minding their own business - and only that. I don't think there are many civilians that will take part in a civil war, instead they will just obey to whoever is in charge.
