Hopefully he does. I don't think Hojlund and Zirkzee is a viable strikeforce though. Even if he performs, we should still be looking to sign a more proven striker like Gyokeres.
I don't disagree; though Gyokeres specifically became that under Amorim so you never know what he could do with Hojlund. Regardless, I think Gyokeres would be a great option. Move Zirkzee on swiftly if the rumoured interest is true and we might not even lose much in the fee.

Not all players develop in the same way. He’s obviously just a bit of a late bloomer.
Ivan Toney is an example. But you usually aren’t paying top whack for these players because you’re taking such a risk on them. If he costs 70, 80m then you’re not getting the benefit of taking that sort of punt.

And only once he scored more than 20 goals when he played in the Championship (he scored 21 goals before going to Sporting)
Which suggests Amorim turned an average striker into a good one. Hopefully he can find a spark and make a few of United forwards clinical and consistent scorers.

I know it's the Championship but Gyokeres had been excellent for Coventry. It's not really correct to suggest he only magically became good at Sporting. Amorim certainly helped him improve further though. I agree with you on Zirkzee. I know it's early and thus probably a bit unfair to give up on him already, but I never understood the signing in the first place. I hadn't seen Zirkzee play before joining Utd but everything I knew about him and saw from highlights and stats never suggested he would be a reliable goalscorer which is what we needed. Best to get rid quickly and bring in a better striker before his value completely tanks like Antony.

Which suggests a 27 years old striker found his goalscoring streak at the normal age for a striker in a relatively lower league in Europe

That’s nonsense in my opinion.

Moyes was 50 when he took the United job. Frank is 51. Amorim 39.
Moyes and Frank managing in the PL with low expectation clubs. Amorim never managed in England or PL.
What exactly has Frank got more in common with Amorim ? I’m intrigued.
Yes, and they both like Glee and puppies. My point is that their age doesn’t mean anything and neither does PL experience when it comes to what’s important - playing style, man management skills and the chance of success here. Moyes is an old school manager, the two others are not.

It's a higher level league than the championship with Coventry and scoring 62 times in 64 games isn't that normal for a striker once he reaches his mid 20s.

Hojlund has proven his extraordinary finishing ability every chance he’s gotten which of course are too few. If Amorim fixes that and Hojlund gets chances he’ll score a shitload.

I've always wondered @Raees why it's Pythagoras in Boots? A football is a sphere and ancient Greeks hadn't discovered 3D TV yet so everything was flat to them. Also Pythagoras was a poor footballer, not even making Greece's Euro 2004 preliminary squad. Even Dimitrios Papadopoulos made that team and I don't see you asking for his tactical input.

Cruyff nickname.

Higher level? The big 3 definitely, the remaining 15 teams absolutely not. Wouldn’t achieve promotion or even top 6 in the Championship.

The average Championship side is better than the average Primeira Liga side.

UEFA showed in one of their technical documents that the Portuguese league is the most lopsided between its top teams and the rest. There are more decent teams in the Netherlands. That said, I don't think Braga should be lumped in with the dross.

This moved fast. I would probably have preferred Thomas Frank but Amorim seems like a positive choice.

Thomas Frank would fail here and piss everyone off doing it with his strange interviews. I think he’d do well at another top club but just get the feeling

True, many United fans have a bizarre and irrational dislike of Frank because of one interview years ago so he’d probably struggle to get accepted.

What makes you think that Thomas Frank is suited for the job?

He also looks like the green goblin. But srsly never got why he was so high up the list as potential replacements.

Not sure this is the thread for this question. I'm wondering with regards to the current Sporting players, which ones everyone thinks are 1) attainable(obviously) and 2) we genuinely would need to bring in to give Amorim the best initial setup to help us adapt to his style. Diomande, Hjulmund and Gyokeres are the obvious ones.
