Ruben Amorim | United meet Sporting release clause

What’s his release clause? €60-70m?
This excites me not because he’s the greatest number 9 in the world but because he’s a huge upgrade at number 9 than Zirkzee and a much better role model for Højlund to learn from?

He's not good enough to be a starter right now anyway. He's had more than enough time to perform and he simply hasn't. Hope we do get Gyokeres. If Hojlund wants to be a starter he'll have to earn it.
You’re blaming Rasmus when our entire team has been shit and he has had no service? Let’s judge after he gets at least half a year with Ruben.

There are maybe a handful of better strikers in the world right now.

I think he’s been fine. Scored plenty when fit. Please remember he is just a kid. Remember also that Gyokeres was playing for Coventry not so long ago, and there will be a huge jump from SCP to us. Rasmus was at least doing it in one of the top 5 euro leagues at Atalanta.

In theory it sounds nice, but how many players are actually present for training in international break?
Well with this current United squad most of them in the sick bay but yeah Most of them will be away in international break,

I’m a huge fan and I think for Amorim to work we need him plus Diomende too ?

Gyokeres has a release clause apparently
Yep it’s €100m (£82m) however they are said to have a gentleman agreement he can leave for €70m (£58m), we should really do a deal with sporting and let them have some of our young stars on loan coming through?

So the age and the fact that Frank hasn’t won a trophy with an underdog side without a budget prompts you to compare him to Moyes? I think you forget that managers from small countries have a much longer road to English football and therefore are usually older than their colleagues from Spain, Portugal, Germany and Italy. Frank has a lot more in common with Amorim than with Moyes.

That’s nonsense in my opinion.

Moyes was 50 when he took the United job. Frank is 51. Amorim 39.
Moyes and Frank managing in the PL with low expectation clubs. Amorim never managed in England or PL.
What exactly has Frank got more in common with Amorim ? I’m intrigued.

If we go for Gyokeres does that mean the £58 mill only applies to Utd via Amorim?
Do we even have 58m? If we do, is it a good idea to spend it on someone who was playing in the championship last year?

Not saying I’ve got any betters ideas, mind.

Well end up paying £65m over 3 years, that’s how INEOS and SJR operate, do they have £25m as the first payment in January, My guess just and it’s a very close Just!

His positioning has been a major reason for getting "no service". You can't get chances if you're not in the right positions. Sick of repeating this every time because people just constantly ignore it. There's a reason all the best strikers seem to rack up loads of shots and xg. It's because their movement puts them into the position to score. I've no doubt you won't listen and will keep making excuses for him though so I'll just leave it there

He's going to get a 2-month window under the new coach to prove it.

He can improve but I don't agree that he's been fine. He'd be fine as backup but not as a starter for Manchester United. The finishing is there, but he needs to be in the right positions and making the right runs more often. Most of his goals last season also came in a pretty short period before going back on a drought. His injury problems are a major problem too. You need your striker to be regularly available which he hasn't been so far. I'm not giving up on him completely but if we're relying on him to be our starting striker, I won't have much confidence in us improving very much.

I agree. Garnacho is basically the only player with really good movement on our team at the moment, hence why he is our top scorer despite his finishing being very hit and miss.

Hopefully he does. I don't think Hojlund and Zirkzee is a viable strikeforce though. Even if he performs, we should still be looking to sign a more proven striker like Gyokeres.

Great example. Garnacho is a pretty poor finisher, completely the opposite to Hojlund, but his movement is exceptional which is why he gets so many chances. If Hojlund was making those sorts of runs with his finishing ability he'd be scoring hatfulls. Unfortunately it's not a very easy skill to learn and Hojlund hasn't shown much progress on it so far.

Why is there such snobbery towards the championship like it can’t produce good players ?

There are many examples of players coming from there recently who are very good.

There is no denying that at times this has been the case with Hojlund. However, he himself stated in an interview that he attacked the near post specifically under instructions from Ten Hag to make space for others. In other circumstances he has been let down by a pass being poor, not coming at all or too late.

Numerous ex-strikers have talked about his movement being good including Shearer, Wright & Lineker who don't say a lot of nice things about our players.

I’m not saying it can’t produce good players, but if it does you don’t expect them to still be there at 25. Then again, late bloomers are a thing.

I’m not against the signing at all, but it’s the type of risk that you look back on if he flops and go: “…well yeah?”

Not all players develop in the same way. He’s obviously just a bit of a late bloomer.
