Ruben Amorim | United meet Sporting release clause

The agents of every mediocre player who ever played in Holland will need anti depressants tonight

Don't forget all the agent's of players who did well with ajax and had failed elsewhere

It really is. I currently live in Hong Kong which makes Manchester Airport look like a 3rd world airport. Whenever I meet guests at Mcr Airport, and they want a trolley. I always feel extremely embarrassed to tell them that you have to pay a pound for one.

TBF most of UK's infrastructure is 3rd world, not just Manchester's.

I don’t have a league position in mind, but as long as the team looks like it’s coming together and there is a semblance of a plan and proper playing style I’m happy.
Same, I just want the "Coming together and there is a semblance of a plan and proper playing style" to happen quickly, no waiting and patience, we've done that with Ole & EtH, Slot and Maresca got their teams playing right away, not saying they will be successful, but they got their teams playing well in short amount of time, so did Ange & Emery last year. So from here on, the "give him time" is no longer valid point, the team, as presently constructed should be doing a lot better than what we are seeing.

This post should be pinned. Sick and tired of us waiting for change to happen. Amorim IS the change. Fan expectations have to be higher than rock bottom.

I have a feeling he will be confirmed before Friday, so he can say farewell at his last game for them. He will be watching us against Chelsea, then take our training from Monday.

The next five games we “should” win, then he will hopefully get a good start.

It doesn’t make sense for Utd to trigger the release clause if he didn’t agree in the first place.
It’s clear from his responses that he’s under strict instructions not to make the announcement himself. He’d rather not have done that press conference and not be in the position to be asked him sure but such is the nature of his current job he can’t avoid it.

I think we will see an announcement today. You could say it’s a big day today but I’ve never been one to make that sort of claim.

Hopefully it’s announced. I want to enjoy watching Utd play again.

We know Antony isn’t good enough. I do wonder what happens with Licha. I like him but I have my reservations. Especially in the league.

Yeah. I suppose the only remaining bits and pieces are some of the legal stuff related to his contract, maybe he has a few requirements for backroom staff, feck knows. Wouldn’t have gone anywhere near this if him agreeing to join us was ever in question, that bit will have been sounded out way earlier.

Hold on to your bollocks

I like his vibe and he has a bit more personality than others we’ve had. I can’t help but hope this sparks us into life. Not asking for a turnaround but a decent 6th placed finish would be great.
Nah, we will get a top 4 and win a cup...

We are a good team. That needs a astute manager who knows how to pack the moving block of players.
We attack as a team, defend as a team with minimal midfield space, we will more games than other teams through sheer quality in our players.

He needs to avoid, ball over the top to Rashford. Keep Bruno sane as a midfield, if he doesn't do it. Drop him. And we will succeed.

Amorim is great. I always rated him as a player (even though he was no star), but he's a much better manager. I wish he was Benfica's manager for the past 3 years.
Well spoken and gives great press conferences. He's not robotic nor boring.
He will admit to mistakes and he will own the bad results. He is not known to blame the refs, which is very very rare in Portugal (everyone blames the refs).
He is not hostile towards rival clubs, he's very respectful in fact.
He gets the players to buy in. He'll focus on improving the team dynamics, which in turn also improves the individual players.
He promotes alot of youth players and develops them into fully fledged starters.
He is also too stubborn at times, as in he will keep playing underperforming players no matter what, even past the point where the fans are desperate for a change (like he feels he's in debt to said players? or out of a sense of loyalty?). Only way to solve this is for the club to sell those players, otherwise he'll keep playing them. Most notable examples are Esgaio, Paulinho and Adan.
Amorim has never had to deal with players with massive egos, not even a single one (he's always kinda been the underdog and Sporting is not a star buying club). It remains to be seen how he'll handle the big egos in the Man Utd locker room.

Having said all that, I have no idea how he will fare in the Prem. Will he play 3/4 at the back? 1/2 strikers?
Being honest, Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool are too strong at the moment, so I do not believe in a top3 place this season, I think top 5/6 is more reasonable. Then work up to the top4 next season and go from there.

But at the end of the day, he's a great manager. And I'm VERY glad he's leaving Sporting, which means Benfica will get a decent chance to claw back some points and hopefuly win the league.
To put in perspective what he's done at Sporting for the last 4 years, it's like if Atletico won 2 La Ligas and were the clear front runners to win back to back this year. That's what he's done.

There always has to be something to cast that bit of doubt

The ball over the top to Gyokeres has been a key element of his play at Sporting.

I don't think 343 suits your current players and the teams needs. It'll be tough, but the next couple of seasons should prioritize developing your young players. Especially the 2 strikers as you've spent alot of money on them.

352 would be better

Onana
De Ligt Maguire Martinez
Dalot Bruno Casemiro Ugarte Mazouri
Rashford Houijlund

You'd rotate the strikers often and Mainoo with Ugarte. Obviously need a proper LWB like Davies or Ait Nouri. The only player this system wouldn't benefit really is Amad, who I rate
Amorim plays traditional wingers as his wing backs most of the time.

Any changes tactical will have to be gradual and incremental. Can't just turn up and announce "You've never done this before but tomorrow....". I expect the first few weeks will be about finding out about his players on the training ground and on the pitch.

Having visited Singapore, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea and many big cities in China, I concur.
But overall UK do have some, what you say... charm, for lack of better word.
