Ruben Amorim | United meet Sporting release clause

If Shaw ever gets fit he is in with a real chance to claim a place as LCB, he is faster, stronger in the air and as competent defensively and technically. Yoro and Shaw flanking De Ligt/Evans/Maguire would be great.

Another thing is that Rashford and Garnacho shouldn't play together we need another playmaker type up there so it should be Bruno, Hoijlund and Rashford to start off, I expect Rashford to thrive in the half space or closer to goal but I suspect that Bruno and his possession losses will lead to an eventual clash.
I don't think Martinez is good enough either and I hope we buy Inacio to replace him eventually, but some of you need to move the feck on from Shaw. He's a perma-crock who we need to offload in the summer.

Aye, factoring Shaw into these lineups just seems like pure daft fan fiction at this point. He’s done at the top level, and we’d be most sensible to move on asap.

@Sly Apologies as I'm guessing you've got a load of tags since this broke, but I was wondering what is Amorims in game management like?

Ten Hag seemed to struggle to change a game once his opponent figured him out, so if this is an area Amorim thrives in it'd be nice.

It was logical to be excited by Ten Hag, just like it makes sense to be the same here. Are we all a little bit more wary? Sure, but I’m still hopeful and excited.

I was wary about ETH and will be the same here. The positive is that I'm not hearing Sporting fans point out issues with Amorim as the Ajax fans did with ETH. Many of which came true in the end.

I do have a better feeling about it though, and I'm really hoping he goes for the 343/3421 that he's used at SL. Think he's got the personality to get everyone onside for a change. Practically every other coach we've had has split the fanbase with their actions, but from what I've read and seen, I think Amorim will be liked my United supporters.

Hell it'll just be refreshing to see him looking invested on the touchline, going through it with the players. In a weird way it was nice to see Lopetegui slump into his seat after the game, you could see he'd lived every second of it. Whilst ETH is too busy shaking his head and looking miserable. It's only a small thing but I think supporters appreciate things like this.

He's very astute tactically and he's a fantastic man manager but In game subs isn't one of his best assets. Just last game I was annoyed with him taking too long to sub underperforming players. He's very good rotating the team but tbh we have a good Squad filled with options.

Football is feelings, I've been frustrated with Ten Hag and was feeling indifferent - now the optimism is back and I can't wait for the next game.
He might be the one or he might be replaced in a year or two, but I'm going to enjoy this time and savor feeling excitement.

Exactly. This should be fun.

—————— Rashford
——— Mainoo —— Amad
Shaw — Bruno — Ugarte — Dalot
— Butcher — De Ligt — Yoro

Would love to see him give this a go. Build around Rashford getting tidy passes and see if he can regain his top form.

Then get in the market for some World class wing backs and slowly phase out Bruno
What the hell is that...

Exactly, hope is what we have left, until there isn't.

Cheers hopefully if he sets up right from the beginning it's not quite as infuriating as it is with Ten Hag

I dont disagree with what you are saying but Arne Slot came from arguably weaker league (Dutch have weaker teams than Portugal does) and weaker club of Feyenoord compared to Sporting, filling shoes of Klopp, with much higher expectations. And he didn't skip the beat despite getting next to zero transfer budget, albeit with decent squad. If he can do it, Ruben can, too

Erik had many challenges, no doubt, but he was also stubborn, and did many very strange things. At the end of the day, he can blame many people but he was the one that didn't succeed

He also needs to take responsibility for his own actions

I fully agree that ETH “did many strange things” and I agree it was time to part ways.

I am not indicating Ruben will not make it. I was arguing that getting a manager who’s managed in the EPL at smaller teams is a similar risk.

Slot came from a smaller league, he’s doing well. The risk was there, but he’s doing well. But I also think that the expectations at united are very very high. Fixing what we have become must be the highest expectation any manager get. I hope it works out

Who will be hes first signing? What position is most urgent? Left back? Striker?

Probably left back as Shaw is going to out for the season and Malacia is done . Unless Juventus come in for Zirkzee can’t see another striker coming in this season. I still think a midfielder is needed

Negativity ? Seems most are relieved ETH is gone and are looking forward to turning the page.
The title of the thread is Amorim taking over now that Ten Hag is gone. A lot of posters complaining about tactics, league he was in, etc. Let’s see what he can do.

I agree with your first part though. Many are relieved Ten Hag is gone.

Arnold appointed Ten Hag.

Berrada, Ashworth and Wilcox have appointed Amorim.

I can guarantee you the latter three will have put a lot more thought into the Amorim appointment. Comparing it with Arnold's pursuit of Ten Hag seems pointless? He wasn't a qualified football person.

I'm not sure the personnel will be available for him to play his 3-4-2-1 from the get go. When everyone is fit we'll probably look like this:

Onana
Yoro - De Ligt - Martinez
Dalot - Mainoo - Ugarte - Mazraoui
Bruno - Garnacho
Hojlund

Really hope this is the guy. Hate losing out on Nagelsmann.

Julian apparently has love for this club, so just have to hope he never goes to scousers/City. That way there is still a possibility he manages this club in the future

I'm watching Sport TV1 now and they are interviewing people about Amorim. One guy was in tears.
Let's just hope he can give United something to be happy about in the coming years.

So excited by this. He's young, he's hungry and he sets teams up fantastically. I just hope that the team respond to him and put the hard yards in.

I keep hearing this concern. Dalot is a fairly average player granted, but I'm surprised to hear some have concerns about Mazraoui being able to play wingback. Wasn't he already accustomed to playing there in Bayern (as part of Tuchel's back 5 no less), and Ajax before that?

The fact Ten Hag felt comfortable playing him at no.10 recently suggests he does have some attacking nous?
I don’t know how much Mazraoui was playing wingback in Tuchel’s system… wasn’t he hurt? As far as Mazraoui playing as a 10… Remember when Van Der Sar got a red card for taking down a player in the box and SAF had Rio put on the gloves and tried to save a penalty? Rio was no more a goalkeeper than Mazraoui is a 10 haha.

Anyway, I see your point, they both can be serviceable as RWB, but neither would be ideal as I think you need more pace and 1v1 dynamism than either of those two are able to provide.

Am I the only one feeling a bit numb about this imminent appointment?
Like am not feeling any emotions about it.

Still not sure what to think of this. Listened to one podcast of so called football 'experts' describe him as tactically astute and pragmatic, even with his favoured 3-4-3.

But then I listened to another one with a different group of 'experts' who dismissed him as being dogmatic, and his main strength lies with improving the players he works with.

So, I have absolutely no idea what to expect.
