Ruben Amorim | United meet Sporting release clause

How did he do in the CL or EL?
Fine. He did qualify us out of the group stage in his first CL stint, we end up getting trashed by Citeh though. Beat Spurs at home and drew away. Beat Frankfurt away. We also had a decent EL campaign eliminating Arsenal but we ended up losing in the quarter finals after outplaying Juventus but our finishing killed us.

Still doing great. We already have our next star/future big sale coming up. Geovany Quenda, a starter for us with 17 years of age. Youngest to score for us in the league and was the MoM against PSV in the CL for me. I can see Amorim wanting Quenda to come with him but he will be expensive.
Kwenda means go in swahili, so it's on.

I actually think Garnacho and Amad will fit well since Amorim like to play with wingers like them. At Sporting it's Quenda and Catamo. Not so sure about Rashford though. I don't see Sporting players with his characteristics in Amorim system.

One thing about Amorim is that he likes giving chances to academy players. We always have one of the youngest teams in our league and european competitions.

Thanks mate.

Europa league last season - made it to the final 16, beaten by eventual winners Atalanta.

2022/2023 Champions league - finished third in the group stage, then beaten by Juventus in the QFs of the Europa league.

This season's CL they've won two and drawn one. Though they're yet to be tested against elite opposition (they have Arsenal next).
We actually qualified for knockout stages in his first CL stint eliminating Dortmund in the group stages but we got demolished by City. When we finished third in the CL we actually beat Spurs at home and Frankfurt away but injuries and a red card to our goalkeeper derailed our campaign.

Isn’t his record against English teams pretty decent though? Seen before that he’s beaten spurs and drawn to them. Drawn to Arsenal.

What’s your take on him as a manager? Is he ready for the next step up? Also who would you replace him with if he left now.

Wasn't the whole point of having a DOF is not having to have these "clear-outs" every time we change manager?

It was always inevitable that the next manager was almost certainly not going to want ETH's proprietary buys. Imagine if we got someone like Klopp or Pep to manage us, would they be content with players like Zirkzee, Antony, Malacia, and frequently unavvailable Mount ? They would want their own players who play a certain style. Amorim isn't going to be any different.

Do we honestly see future with players like Casemiro, Eriksen, Mount, Maguire, Lindelof, Sancho ? Amorim will require intensity from all formations, including centre backs forced to play a lot near the halfway.

It looks inevitable at this point tbh.

Best manager in my lifetime. I think he's ready. No idea but it will be obviously a downgrade

Has Ornstein confirmed we are working on a deal for him to take over immediately? Or for the end of the season?

How is his football style in general, SLy. Is he pragmatic but attacking in general, or Mourinho's park the bus style, or Kopp style? Any reference to the more well known present and past best managers?

Random question

But what’s he like after the match when your team faces an injustice with a referee decision?

Bugged me from the very first weeks that Ten Hag was so accepting of it and never put any pressure on them. Knew he’d get walked over and he did

Smart man that he lowered his release clause for all the big clubs in each country. Also was Liverpool not part of that list? Is that why they didn’t sign him cause they had to pay the full €20m? It would be hilarious if so!

I’ve seen a few reports saying he’s ready to take over imminently. Usually it’s made clear at the start if it was for end of the season.

Some of these players are on the way out regardless of who’s the manager. I think a clear out doesn’t mean that the new manager has all the say in squad building anymore, or at least I would hope.

He is very calm. He very rarely speaks about refs which annoyed some Sporting fans.

A question I want to know the answer to. I’ve seen his sporting team score 6 goals. He’s got like 32 goals and conceded 2 in 9 games so far but his Wikipedia as him as a pragmatic coach.

So does it mean one of our biggest young talents (Garnacho) will be on the way out as not a good fit for the system? Rashford and Antony are pretty much done with Amorim, I would have thought.

How did you come to this conclusion?

Attacking in general but pragmatic when playing against top opposition. He has nothing to do with Mourinho. He's not one of his references.

Ornstein/Whitwell reported that Amorim's open to taking over United, but whether that's immediately remains to be seen. Pedro Sepúlveda reported that Amorim's tempted to leave his Sporting job prematurely in order to be a head coach in the Premier League with United. Plettenberg and Luckhurst both reported something similar afterwards.

Liverpool were part of that list

Garnacho is young enough and talented enough to fit into his system.
