Indeed. I reckon 1 or 2 players are already basically signed from Sporting. That hardly did us well previously with Ajax.

Seriously though, I think all of the players we sign now will be very high on the strength, speed and stamina. Probably quite a bit taller as well.

So many different things are broken but I am actually glad we're not taking massive punts and making the situation worse in January.

For me, the jury is still out on Amorim. He has 2 more months to prove himself.

I don’t expect miracles but surely he can get a little improvement out of the squad.

Look at Moyes at Everton and Potter at West Ham.
 
The FA Cup win last season really throw this season away. At that time, many believe that our best in class football people was capable of making sound decision on the manager. However, many were shocked that they kept ETH even he finished 8th. Only to be sacked a few months into the season.

Just imagine, Amorim was brought in the summer and backed with players he needs. All these mess could have been easily avoided. What a bloody mess this Ineos Team

There have been multiple games where we've played well and had more of the ball, but cannot put the ball in the net. Then an individual error kills us, and it's not like we have the firepower to get back into the game.

Why couldn't another manager, or indeed Amorim, make this team better at scoring goals?

Not playing 5 defenders and 2 rigid midfielders might help improve goalscoring output. Just a thought.

Said it before and will say it again, Amorim needs to be a bit more flexible in his own approach in the short term and build some form of confidence then implement the changes he wants to make to improve us long term.

When Amroim was hired what did you expect from him at that time of his hiring?
 
I think he will do well to make it to the summer. I'm not sure how a manager can survive results this bad, especially at United.

Ive no idea what they are trying to do at this point but hiring a manager who's only way of playing doesnt suit our squad while knowing we wouldnt be able to back him in the transfer window was a really poor decision.
 
We have no functioning striker, so until that is resolved you really can't form a judgement

But if you bring a manager in that plays a completely different system you have to back him at the first opportunity.

As things stand two attacking players have gone on loan and it doesn’t look like even one attacker is coming in this January transfer window.

Whatever happens between now and and the end of the season is on Ineos and the Glazers.

They’ve fecked the manager and they have fecked the fans.

I was one of those who did not want them to keep him, but it wasn't really many. The vast majority of the fanbase suddently had collective amnesia over the win and demanded he stay and SJR went with it rather than stay objective. I was not surprised they went with the crowd because I was struggling to see what their plan was as they hadn't told us anything other than vague statements. There has never been a long-term plan by INEOS and this is why we're in this mess.

Not going to go back through the thread but there are people who actually want him gone?

That would be a crazy overreaction but at the same time it perfectly normal to have some concerns about set up and the suitability of his preferred system to his current group of players.

It is a shit situation and there was no other way this was going to go after IDEOTZ flopped on binning Ten Hag in the Summer, but at the same time he needs to show some improvements. Can't finish 15th and expect there to be no concerns.

Also a CB missing for quite a while, so it is down to one end allergic to putting the ball in the net and us hoping Onana doesn't throw the ball in his own net. Maybe we should play him up front.

Also if they get rid that will be more money off the transfer kitty, so it would either be getting someone who is that bad they are out of work, or paying a big fee for another clubs manager so even more money out of the transfer kitty. Any new manager would then be hoping to sign this player and that player and will be told to work with whatever is here.

I remember before the FA Cup win the poll was more than 80% fans wanted ETH sacked. After the FA Cup win the poll became 50:50.

I was one firmly on the ETH sack before and after the FA Cup. I thought our new best in class people was capable of making "professional" decision based on football wisdom rather than sway by the FA Cup win. The rest is history.

Maybe if he plays Amad at RWB and Dorgu comes in and helps us on the left. But regardless, you are still left with Hojlund, Zirkzee and Garnacho as your main goalscorers.

It simply isn't enough firepower.

While I agree ETH shouldve been sacked in the summer, I’d still rather have an FA cup win than live on some fantasy. There has been absolutely no indication whatsoever that the team will turn into a proper side with a few players Amorim handpicks. He’s getting outclassed and -tacticted by almost every PL manager he’s faced. That probably wont change if we sign a right wing back and a 20goal striker.

he has Amad to thank for his heroics against Soto and City. Without those 6 points we’d probably have the least or second least amount of points in the league since he took over.

Yup, this place was insufferable the day it was announced ETH would be staying on. Plenty of gloating and people attacking the "fake" and "plastic" fans who wanted him sacked despite the FA Cup win.
 
Our roster is poor. Our roster is shite. Combine that with several bad days at the office, and, despite a good coach, this is what we get.

Maybe this other coach will transform Rasmus?

I thought that confidence inducing were Man City, Liverpool and Arsenal results after those games?

It's obvious that this fanbase was burned many times since 2013, especially the last couple of transfer windows big money splashed and some players having a minimal or no output and not even looking like they can improve.
Fans now being sceptical of everything and looking just for that short hit.
Maybe this is the lowpoint and it starts to turn around?

The money literally isn’t there. That’s why we were considering selling Garnacho, just to raise some funds so we could buy a player or two.

I don’t think Ineos have already given up on him and decided not to back him with funds. I expect they’re trying to scrape together a small transfer budget for the summer.

Not sure what formation is going to turn Hojlund and Zirkzee into Ronaldo. We might create more chances, but the way they are it will just mean they will likely miss more chances. Zirkzee is not a striker, so why people expect him to be and Hojlund either falls over or is in the wrong place.

Utd would be a in better position right now if that Coventry winner had stood in the SF. Though they probably still wouldn't have sacked him, "poor Ten Hag has had injuries, that is why we are seeing the most structurally shambolic football a major club has ever played"
 
The system isn't defensive. FFS, we struggle to keep the dregs of the PL <1 xG in most of our games.

We need all three centre-halves to be like Martinez on the ball, while adding some recovery pace (or better reading of the game).

We also need advanced midfielders (#10s) who are able to receive the ball between the lines and turn their man.

With these two things, the box that's required in the centre of the pitch will always have 4–5 players fighting the midfield battle. Plus, we will be able to push the whole team a few yards higher up the pitch.

Without this, everything will collapse. And it does, most of the time. Because the (supposed) #10s still operate as wingers, hugging the touchline and waiting to cut inside, our main creator will go into these congested areas only when he can get on the ball while facing the goal (otherwise, he drifts wide or drops way too deep), and the defenders are back-peddling. The whole thing falls apart like a house of cards. Just like it did last season.

To be fair, he's probably already had this explained to him and agrees with the plan. It's just whether the owners will keep their nerve as he has to bed in more kids, who will inevitably be inconsistent, raw and need time.

I mean, from the sounds of his interviews, Amorim signed up for the job on the basis there was no money to spend in January.

If he wants to quit, I really don't blame him. But he knew the state of the squad before he joined, it's not a secret. He must have known he would have to work with the majority of this squad for at least a couple of years before it could change significantly. No chance of having any ridiculous transfer warchest.

If he doesn't have any ideas on what to do with the current squad, well, maybe it's not the right job for him.

I think he would probably have expected not to have to start Mainoo as a striker within a month of that quote. If that wasn't a message to the board to "get me a fecking striker you cnuts" then I don't know what else it could have been.

Also - we've gotten rid of 2 attacking options and lost our best CB for the season. But don't worry, Lecce's LB will save the day :lol:
