Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

We see people saying this with every manager we have had since Fergie....
In the meantime we watch new managers at clubs produce wins with the players they inherit
Dorgu has no issues playing in this system apparently though? He’s an Amorim signing

He may not be a top class manager. He may be the worst manager the premier league has ever seen.

But there's no hope with the current squad of players regardless of who is in charge. May as well stick with a guy that was the brightest managerial talent in Europe four months ago, imo.

Then why have the players clawed back a result, why have they won multiple trophies domestically despite the club objectively being in a rut.

It's very convenient to run these players under the bus momentarily but then abscond the idea when they bail the manager out or win important games.

Whatever that set up in the 2nd half was, has to be the starting line up going forward!

One thing you can see is that this team would have totally folded at half time in the past. The mentality does seem to at least be somewhat improved. And I appreciate I'm grasping for positives by saying that.

I think it was largely briefed that Ashworth lost a lot of credit in the bank from Rat and Brailsford because he was pushing hard to retain ten Hag in the summer rather than rip the bandaid then and there, and then when he was asked to start thinking of replacements he wasn’t coming up with the right sort of names. Could’ve just been pro-club briefings but it was saying names like Potter, Southgate, Frank (who’d probably be doing better tbf).

I think that’s why they let Berrada take the wheel.
I see. Everything around it is quite discouraging. If true, how can he be angling for ETH staying when we were crap. On the other hand, who knows what's true.

Agreed.

The players are not trying to lose. They are just struggling to adapt to instructions that are alien to them.

Whatever we are getting from games it's not down to the system. It's down to the individual quality in the squad.

Ancellotti plays for formation to suit the players.
EtH, and now Amorim, seem to want players to play to the manager’s strengths. I will never understand this.

I said it in my last post - it is so annoying when managers are this dogmatic.

How do these managers expect to have everything set up exactly as they want to deliver the bare minimum? Challenging for trophies is another matter.

They won trophies without a manager?

Yep.

He may well be our AVB. Poor squad or not, the performances and results are abysmal.

I'm struggling to see how he can turn things around, even if he has a good window.

I mentioned in the thread at the time how it was a bit concerning that our CEO seemingly handpicked him to be our manager, overruling Ashworth.
Berrada’s job is on the line. I think Brailsford still has a big influence behind the scenes which is unfortunate.

Quality? Have you seen his transfer record at United? He was useless.

Towards the end can Gaal was using youth players more and the squad was balanced.

Also, the team did need a complete rebuild when he came in.

The money he spent over 2 yrs was relatively normal. Any other top club needing a rebuild would be spending the same level.

He wasn't even employed when that decision was made, so it strikes me as an INEOS briefing to save face

Draw id honestly get rid of Amorim. It's not the system either it's even worse than that it's his interpretation of the system.

Alonso is playing the exact same shape and the differences tactically is astounding. My conclusion from Amorim in his thread regarding Sporting (before he joined) was from observing Marcus Edwards that his system thrives off individual brilliance. To some extent this isn't a criticism as most formations require a players intuition but the defence is poor, the midfield is poor and the attack is poor.

All that will happen with Amorim is buying newer players to put them in positions there's no nuance or finalities to refine these players in their roles.

We’re definitely starting matches way too conservative. Yes teams drop off with a lead, and play more defensive - but we routinely go up a level in the second half and you can see hints of what we’re trying to do.

People point to getting lucky against Leicester and Southampton etc, and even Fulham, but there’s a big change in how we’re playing in those last 30 minutes, contrary to how we approach the first half.

Turns out we don't have relegation level players. Apparently Bruno Fernandes is actually quite good. As is the £50m player from PSG. And turns out they have some fight.

Still the same concerns over the performance levels overall.

Maguire and Onana did a proper Plymouth level showings today.

Wait, I know how we can score more goals. Play 5 defenders. Throw in two defensive midfielders too.
Yeah but even with that, we are defensively suspect. Also who is this attacker you want to add? Who is going to get us goals, so you'll sacrifice the defenders for that we seem to need?

Even with this defensive setup we don't have any sort of control. You want to introduce more chaos into this side? For the miniscule chance of us creating chances?

Any system where we sacrifice our best attacker in Garnacho for a defender is a fecking stupid system. Playing more defenders doesn't make us more defensively solid. We had Mazraoui and Dalot literally in no mans land.

A major problem for him is that his subs do really well and claim a spot for the next game. Only to be utter shite when that game comes around.

Hopefully we get some good performances from the off in the remainder of the season.
