Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

One thing his tactic does it give wing backs lots of space, the switch is on all the time.

From then though we are always awful.

He could improve us instantly without making a sub.

Onana
Dalot deligt Maguire maz
Bruno Cas
Dorgu Zirkzee Garnacho
Hojlund

Play a low/mid block, counter focused 4231, like we did to great effect 2 years ago. And for everyone who said that never worked either…. Yes it did until ETH ripped it up for no reason.

But he isn’t going to. He is a 3421 fanatic. Whether or not this is a good system with the right players is irrelevant. With this squad it’s awful. He’s made a poor side even worse.

I don't know if he's a good or bad manager, I can't comment on that.

But it really shows the incompetence at our club that we hired a manager who plays such a unique formation and tactics in the middle of the season.

It's the exact reason why Liverpool didn't go for him, because it would completely change the profile of the squad.

My other issue is even if we persist with this and back Amorim for a few years, if it doesn't work out. We have to start over yet again chopping and changing the squad because there isn't another manager out there that plays this way.

Ineos have been really bad IMO.

I think he’s completely clueless if I’m honest. We are constantly overrun in midfield, it’s the exact same issue as under Ten Hag.

Bruno can’t play CM but every week he’s in that role. We lose all attacking threat we had which came through him.

Casemiro should never play for us again. Would rather see a youngster that can run for 90 minutes.

We now have Dorgu and Dalot on the correct wings which makes you wonder why he even tried them on opposite wings against Leicester.

I find it hard to blame Casemiro today. He's been hung out to dry. At his prime, he was playing in a 3 man midfield. The only person who might have a chance in his position today is prime Kante.

A loss today will put Amorim under huge pressure. I am not sure he will survive till the end of the season.
While Amorim is rightly under pressure, I don't know why a loss away at Spurs would significantly increase that. They may be doing poorly, but they're still a top club that can beat anyone on their day, playing at home.

Honestly, the fecking state of this thread. Why don’t you just support a different team? What did you think would happen when he came in? Genuine question. We have a poorly constructed squad of players ill equipped for premier league football. They have 0 confidence, and I’m fairly sure they know that they’re likely not good enough.

Another manager, any manager, does not turn this around coming in at the time Amorim has come in. It’s ok for us to be shit. We may never get back to what we were, the landscape of football has changed, and it’s never going back. If this club is in the Championship, then that’s where it is. If we’re bottom half premier league, cool, it is what it is. We’ve been run appallingly and it’s come home to roost.

I think the manager has made mistakes, but I think he can do a job. That’s all I’m expecting to be fair, I think we’ll be around 10th at best for a couple of seasons, and honestly I’m alright with that.

Some of the shit in this thread just reeks of people who’ve never been to the ground, couldn’t find it on a map, grew up and chose United because we were successful and now they can’t cope with being bantered by their friends or other tossers on the internet. Just watch the football, root for your team, they might win and they might lose. With any luck it is entertaining, but if it isn’t then there’s lots of other things you can do to fill that void.

Screaming that yet another manager should be sacked four months into the job doesn’t seem like a good use of your time or energy.

Rant over, rum poured, let’s see what we get second half. Cheer up people, it might never happen

His options are limited for the game but I certainly wouldn’t be playing Bruno in the midfield 2. He should be one of the CAMs with two midfielders that can run in CM.

The club overlook CM so many summers in the past. We got Ugarte in but we needed a replacement for Eriksen’s creativity. We started off the season with 2 first team CM in Eriksen and Casemiro that simply cannot play football at this level anymore.
Yes but that’s irrelevant. There was no money for a midfielder in January and there’s no others available for selection today.

He’s coaching the team like he knows his job is safe, but if that is indeed the case, you’d think he’d try something because what’s happening isn’t working.

Stopped reading right there.

Absolutely. It's mismanagement of a player who would still have plenty to offer as a classy squad/ one match a week player in a proper set-up.

Neville may as well just say he wants Amorim sacked at this point. Calling his tactics a disgrace.
Unfortunately for us though Neville us right as playing with a midfield two and two 10’s as well as a back 5 means we’re so easy to play through in midfield and offer nothing up top at all, I lost count of the amount of times Casemiro was effectively playing on his own.
Did they even know that Amorim plays 3421? I am not sure. Or maybe they thought we had the players it.
It’s well known by everyone that Amorim is married to his system and it’s long been reported that it’s the main reason Ashworth was against us bringing Amorim in as we neither had the players to play the system or the money to bring players in to play it either so there’s no excuses we can use regarding not knowing about Amorim and his system.

I hope you fall off that high horse

I am absolutely desperate for Amorim to work out and I really like him, but even I will admit this feels quite dire now.

Yes, he needs a lot of new players but is Ratcliffe really going to sanction £200m+ of new signings when basic tactics seem to evade him?

I can see this going pear shaped. Sigh.

We need more that £200M of signings for this to work, thats the problem.

We'd see at least some sort of improvement, at least by now.

We'd see a style and idea.

We'd get better after training sessions which was his original excuse, yet we seem to be gettint worse.

There are major problems in this team. The question is: is Amorim relieving or adding to them.

There's virtually no chance of that happening in the next 18 months or so, our finances are a mess. I worry the pressure will just mount, he'll lose the players and ultimately his job...
Which is why signing him was a huge cock up by this board.

Why sign a manager that will only, and he did say before he was signed, play one way when we don't have the funds for players to play his way.

Its a mess.

Not a fan of Amorim whatsoever. Terrible to say that Sancho, Greenwood, Cavani, Rashford, Bruno, Fred, Scott is miles ahead of the current team.

Good post.

Amorim gets a pass from me this season, until he has a proper preseason to drill the players. As long as we stay up,.who cares where we finish this season.

I appear to have riled some folks, and I’m a newbie so I don’t get a lot of posts to reply individually.

If you were expecting this squad to be capable of playing front foot, aggressive and high intensity football then you have not been paying attention these last few years, and have a poor understanding of the profile of our players.

I’m not on a high horse, I’ve seen us be shite and a cup team at best, and I’ve seen us be the best team in the world. People turned up either way because it’s our football club and something we love and are passionate about.

It’s really simple. Life is hard, so do things you enjoy, and avoid things that cause you stress and harm. We’re a mess, and it’s not going to get better soon. Screaming into the void is not going to help. I’m not meaning to come off holier than thou and I get plenty fecked off with us for playing shit. But objectively we’re in a bad situation and a Ferguson/Busby hybrid couldn’t get us out of it in the short term, so buckle up or bail is my advice.

Been better second half, things are looking up!

Not sure how he's going to demand standards next season when we've spent the almost the entire current season losing and getting a pass.

Appreciate the clarification, but at the end of the day this is a discussion board and your post basically boils down to "just shut up and consoom".

See what switching the wing backs to their stong sides has done. We have created far more chances in this game than any other PL game I can remember in the Amorim era simply because of the space created by the width we have. Granted we have squandered all the chances and Dalot is a shocking player in general but at least we dont look like a league 2 side going forward anymore. Now you can start to build on this base going forward.

Some big moments where the system had allowed for chances but there is a distinct lack of quality when it matters that is letting him down

While Amorim is rightly under pressure, I don't know why a loss away at Spurs would significantly increase that. They may be doing poorly, but they're still a top club that can beat anyone on their day, playing at home.
The reasons are as follows:
1. We may slip down to 15th place, thus getting closer to a potential relegation scrap.
2. The team will have shown 0 improvement after having one full week of training.
3. The overall trajectory of Amorim's performance in the prem will continue to be downwards, which will tell the Board that the more he trains us the worse we get.

Appreciate the clarification, but at the end of the day this is a discussion board and your post basically boils down to "just shut up and consoom".
Honestly no. Be constructive, try to be supportive is what it comes down to. Some of the stuff in this thread is just, manager clueless, fraud, has to go, he’s had a week of training etc. get down to a game, and see what it’s all about. Winning is the icing on the cake, supporting is the best part. This isn’t discussion it’s bleating and for the most part nonsense.

Didn't like how he refused to really put on any talented youngsters at any point in the final parts of the game. Casemiro was completely finished in the final 10 for example.

His in game management has generally looked pretty poor.

Casemiro needed bringing off at half time, and give Obi a chance for Hojlund. Don't understand why he can't see this?
