Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

He clearly stated that he wanted Garnacho to stay. Amorim is not in charge of our transfers.

If he really wanted him to stay I don't think the club would undermine him to the extent he'd be sold against his will. Amorim must have some say in transfers otherwise you cannot do your job. The fact talks were held about Garnacho possibly leaving suggests Amorim was okay with it but was saving face in case it didn't happen.

We are so much better with Garnacho.
He misses too much though.
His end product is generally very poor too, which is a shame because he's got a lot going for him.

Either his football IQ is low, or his selfishness level is high. One way or another, his end product is poor.

He needs to set us up to be more attacking. Garnacho and Amad on the wings, Hojilund to run the channels, fullbacks overlapping. Stop this 5 defenders at home shite. So frustrating

I know that Amorim is so attached to the 343 formation but it's evidently not working and not posing a footballing threat in the EPL or domestic cups, in Europe it can be effective though.

What made Ruud's short spell effective is that he kept things simple, set up players in their better positions and scored goals. If you look back we played 4231 with 2xDMs. I know it was only a few games against Leicester but I would take 3 wins and 1 draw in 4, with 11 goals scored right now! Just look at how complicated we are making tonight against Ruuds Leicester!

I think Amorim would show how good a manager he could be for us by switching it up when the games call for it. 3 at the back against the top teams to grind out a result and then set up more attacking in others, especially at home!

Or maybe he's just young and stupid at the moment.

My biggest concern is we give him a summer transfer window, spend all of our money on yet another profile of player, and then we're still shite, Amorim gets sacked, and the next manager inherits another crap and disjointed squad.

It's impossible to grade Amorim based on the players we have, but his inability to adapt is a massive problem.
Yeah agree. I thought the whole idea of appointing a director of football (do we actually have one now that Ashworth has been binned?), was that he directed the formation that the team would play, and identify the players required. If we sign players for Amorim's 3-5-2 or whatever it is, and then he gets the bullet in the autumn, it would effectively mean we have to appoint another manager who plays the same system, or rip it up and start again wasting another 2 seasons. This to me is the reason why Ashworth didn't want Amorim and why Liverpool shyed away from him after some initial interest.

We've gone from a team that was easilly beating Leicester 5-2 and 3-0 at home to a team thats extremely lucky to be holding Leicester to a 1-1 draw after 85 minutes yet some will still claim its the player that are the problem and not the manager.

Maz has had a good game, no doubt Amorim will play him RWB next game

You will varrly ever see overlaps in this system because everybody is inverted. I just dont understand the infatuation with inverted wingbacks/full backs. Its so stupid.

Is DeLigt injured? Why has he not been playing? We look so much worse at the back when hes missing

I don’t know what the feck that stuff in the first half was with the blatant square pegs in round holes but hope I don’t see that again.

That first half was Wolves (H) 2023/24 awful

Always nice to win, but we shouldn't need an offside goal at home against Leicester.

I just don't understand Amorims choices.

the only times we have looked good is with Amad at Rwb, so just fecking play him there. And if we buy a player who is left footed, just play him lwb, and when he is the only decent player in the first half don't sub him off only to keep Dalot as the lwb.

It concerns me that 99% of posters on here could tell that the team we finished the match with was miles stronger than the team we started. Will he learn for the next match?

 You bunch of fannies! If you haven't got the stomach for some tough times, just say so. Come back in the summer lads when silly season starts again.
Its not about the tough times. Is it too much to ask him to show some progress ? You don't need great players to show some improvements in our game ?

We have seen this script and we know exactly where this is going. He would be lucky to make it to summer if he doesn't change his style.

That first 60 mins, I am sorry but this line that he should just keep playing his system no matter what, no. He needs to build some confidence by getting a few results which will mean putting the players he has in a position to succeed.

His system is not working for this group, adapt it and find something that does. Far better after the subs with width and penetration instead of the turn back cycle of the first half.

Its better than most of the other options. Only Amad is better.

On top of that he gets into dangerous positions more than any other player. Amorim needs to use this, he is the coach, his job is to figure it out.

Teams have figured us out. All they do is sit back and let the three CBs pass it between themselves. Then because we have three at the back we are down a player in the attack, which any are easily dealt with.

Hes trying to make us pass the ball with one touch and speed, but half the players cannot do that.

This coach, this set of players, its just a bad match.

I've seen enough to say I'm not convinced this will ever work out. We huffed and puffed against one of the worst teams in the Premier League. Same as against Southampton a month ago: Trick me once, shame on you. Trick me twice...

I just don't see what you can take from grinding out victories against Championship level opposition.

Amorim's not going to change, his squad is largely not going to change thanks to the club's finances. As soon as we face fractionally better opposition we'll get exposed. Again.

To me, it looks a mistake to have appointed this man to work with this set of players. I hope I'm wrong because, although I enjoy last minute winners, I don't enjoy watching s-t on a stick week in week out.

He is over complicating it at the moment, and he needs to the right line up. Looked better in the second half with Yoro on the left and Mazraoui on the right which is how expected is to lineup. The wingbacks should have swapped as well.

Bud second half showed if players actually press, and engage high up the pitch rather than running back towards our goal constantly we look a lot better.

I'm still baffled why he didn't play Dorgu LWB and Dalot RWB? I hope someone asks him, what a weird bizarre decision that makes zero sense.

When are they actually going to get better is my question? He's had over 20 games now and they look just as bad as when he first arrived.

Is there any player who has improved under Amorim? I guess Amad once he was finally given a run of games but that honestly seems to be about it.

I understand the system takes time to learn and they are missing quality in certain areas but I would have expected some improvement.

One of those wins that means feck all. If we get any team above Leicester in the next round, we are out. Doesn't pick players in their correct position and changes nothing. Recipe for disaster. This team can play so much better than he setting them up to play.

Going forward got to be Amad right wb with maz backing him up. And dorgu left wb with garnacho ahead of him. Do it!!

This is because he put the players (more or less) in the correct positions and gave us some threat with Garnacho on the pitch.

The midfield isn't good enough on the ball or physically as it hasn't been for years. Knock on impact on everything else. Hojlund and Dalot being useless doesn't help.
