Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

This sounds like we should just get rid of the management structure we just spent half a year getting in place.
Fast forward two years...

"he just needs that structure to feck off so he has the freedom to do whatever he wants, only then can we judge him properly"

If you hire him to coach then listen to him at all cost. If he wants to sell Rashford, Bruno, Hoijund, Casemiro, Dalot and others, just listen and get rid to them. We need passionate players who will run through a brick wall for United. We need a culture reset that everyone has the same rule to meet the highest standards. If Rashford and Garnacho only wants to attack but not defend, then drop them and find the buyers. Let Amorim reshape the whole squad, I have more belief in Amorim than ETH as there were many EPL looking at bringing him to United. For ETH, I didn't hear anyone other than United going for him.
Bruno will be the first name on his team sheet.

Great result for Sporting but won't get too excited. Ten Hag dominated in Netherlands and had some great results in CL as well (not only in 2019), still failed at United. Amorim will surely struggle this season, we'll see if he can be successful in the long run. History of last decade says no but hopefully he's the one to break the curse finally.
His problem will be that he’s got a much stronger squad at Sporting than the one he will inherit here. I’m sure he can get some improvement from them, but to really break the curse we are going to have to rebuild - yet again.

Easier to get sporting motivated against a big team than us motivated against teams.

Yeah very true, the task ahead of him is a completely different beast.

How he manages Rashford in particular will be very interesting.

If Rooney can be fecked off by Jose, then no reason Rashford can't be fecked off by Amorim.

Whoever doesn't make the standard can leave, no player is bigger than the club.

Nar, it’s up to him to get the best out of:

Onana, Maz, Dalot, De Ligt, Yoro, Martinez, Casemiro, Ugarte, Mainoo, Amad, Garna, Bruno etc

That’s how he’ll break the “curse”, use what you have to their very best, and build year on year on that.
No big stupid daft rebuilds for every new manager, how many fecking times do we need make that mistake?

Not a bad introduction!

It means very little in the grand scheme of things but it can't be a bad thing to come into the club fresh off that result. Should make the players stand up and take notice of him at the very least.

You’d hope that if things go tits up, everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, will be seen as the players’ fault and not Ruben’s. We all know our online fanbase especially hasn’t got the intellect for that though.
OOF! Our online Fanbase. OUCH! Our United Couch Heroes…

I would hope we don’t need to also. But how many of our players would have got in Sporting’s starting X1 tonight - not many imo.

He seems to have those players believing his every word. Look how different they were after half time.

Didn’t work out too badly for us the last time we took a punt on an up and coming manager in November after a poor start to the season saw us take 12 points from 10 games!

Ten Hag's CV was winning the Dutch league with Ajax, which is basically a formality, and nearly beating Tottenham.
A 'formality' they haven't done since and hadn't done for 4 years before. Won scoring 119 goals. They beat three-time champions Real Madrid 4-1 in the Champions League. Nobody had beaten them over two legs in three years by that point.

I was happy Ten Hag was sacked, but no need to shit on the great job he did at Ajax.

I’m already seeing “hope he can get the best out of Bruno” when Bruno doesn’t have anything close to the pace/carrying ability/ technical quality that many of these Sporting players have.

We need to stop trying to “adapt” to current players that don’t really fit. Otherwise you’ll have another manager that sticks Rashford high and wide since he’s not a good presser, and let Bruno roam as a 10 and punt balls to the other team over and over until one comes off.
Don’t be silly

He just said he's not going to read or access anything in the press for at least 6 months. Said he did the same when he went to Sporting.

Agree completely. Ship out players who do not fit the plan. Enough of player centric gameplay. That's compromise not progress.

Agree wholeheartedly. My excitement at his appointment is tempered by exactly what you've outlined above. It won't be easy for him to implement his own style of play if he's forced/ feels the pressure to implement players like Rashford and Bruno who are the complete antithesis of the players required for a team striving for more control and being able sustain attacks in the opponents half.

The one thing I don't want to see is him sticking with players unsuited to his style and then claim that United can't play like Sporting.

These Sporting players are showing 100% effort and desire.

Poor sods going to come to us and get the exact opposite from our sorry bunch.

He's got his work cut out for sure.
Those days are gone. Berrada’s philosophy is that if you don’t succeed within two years you’ll be put to the sword. Most of these players won’t be allowed to suck again this season if they want a future here.

Only observing the one match, I think the squad will generally be fine but I do think the squad is lacking in a few areas to match his system. I think GK, CBs and RWB we are okay. I'm not happy with the options at CM but I think we will be okay this season too. Profile wise I think Hoijund can work, though I'm not sure he is good enough.

LWB does look like an obvious gap (LB was an issue before Amorim), as do the two attacking midfielders spots. Out of the the three, I think Bruno is the best match but I don't see those positions suiting Rashford or Garnacho at all - who have been the first choice attackers under ETH.

I actually think that Amad and Mount, look like the best profiles for those positions but I have a question mark on Amad for physicality and fitness for Mount.

Someone like Eze looks like a players that would seamlessly fit into the set up.

The vast majority would have of course. The difference is having belief in yourself and the coach giving you clear instructions that you also buy into. Ugarte for one was excellent for Amorim, and got a big move from Sporting as a result.

Loving this result! United's players will now know for sure he has the coaching credentials to do well in the EPL. Nowhere to hide and no blaming the coach if they don't buck up.

All the best teams are full of hardworking players. That’s a given if we want to be successful. No matter who our manager is.
I’d also argue most players are this level are well capable of putting in a shift. The few that aren’t may have got by on talent alone. You don’t get to play for a Premier League team, let alone a supposedly top PL team, without giving it all.

Motivation at a point in time is a different matter and it is probably something we’ve struggled with more than anything.

They're lifting him up and giving him signed pictures

He's not won the champions league, I mean God, wait till he's won a trophy

But Roy, he's won numerous trophies in 2 seasons and he's beaten City 4-1, in last home game don't you think he deserves a good send off?

iu

They asked him if he's going to take pointers on how to face City (with United) from this game?

He said - "we are a Portuguese team that faced many hardships and in the last four years we completely changed our squad (there's maybe 2 or 3 players that remain) and that has informed the way we play - transitions, waiting for the opponent etc - my next club is a different dimension, so the approach has to be completely different, so I'm not taking much from this. Up close I'll be able to ascertain better the team dynamics and what's possible (there are many variations), but I'm not taking much from this, we're going to approach it differently, we'll have to play differently - especially long-term - maybe short-term not as much, but long-term we can't have this behaviour (the way Sporting played today), because they're historic clubs that will be fighting for the same goals(targets) so it will be a different approach and different game. We grew in the past 2 years, but looking at today's game we had a little bit of luck, last time we faced them we were unlucky - the first four times they attacked last year, they scored - this time around they were pushing us and we couldn't get hold of the ball, but the game changed when we equalised close to half-time and the game changed - we are a better team (than we were 2 years ago) - but looking solely at this game what changed was luck, and this time around it went our way."

note - by the way I translated the question he was asked in Portuguese. He answered a question asked by the British press in a similar manner.

Our version of probably not many but we have some fantastic players who have done great things at clubs, let’s give them the benefit of the doubt I’d say.
