Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

I'm baffled by our first half set up.

The wingbacks being so deep has made it easy for Southampton to play out, our frontline is being outnumbered in the press, our midfield is trying to step out to compensate and its just giving Southampton loads of space to play through.

I'm not sure why we have set up in this way. Maybe we didn't respect Southampton but Amorim has to totally rejig this at half time.
I agree. If he wanted the wing backs to play higher he could easily have instructed that from the sidelines. Seems very cowardly to play five at the back against a team with 6 points.

Lucky ETH got us so many points or we’d definitely be in a relegation scrap

Wow, plenty of people here on his back already. I suspect you'll all be loving him next season, apart from the ones who really want to be right.

Maybe he thought Southampton was code for Liverpool. Or arsenal.

As we have known, we are shit in attack. Any system is hard when our attackers are dopey

System easily works against top teams but when we need the attacker's to do something and know where to go it's tough

Easily works is a stretch. There is also a question whether the reason it works is because it allows us to be defensive and counter attack. Which isn't the way this tean should be playing every game.

Honestly this is the worst United side I think I've ever seen (38 years old). I've got a ticket for Rangers next Thursday and I'm genuinely tempted to not go if I have to suffer those pricks celebrating a win in M16.

Come on. We have just been outplayed by one of the worst teams in premier league history.

He’s set them up terribly and not suited to their strengths.
Oh yes. Maz is looking like a championship player at LWB despite being near WC at right back. Amad is our best attacker yet is absolutely nullified as a wingback. Yoro looks exposed and confused. The midfield is being outrun. We look like we're playing with 10 men.

Absolutely horrible set up this. I wouldnt care if we're out in the clear, but anyone who thinks there's no chance of relegation if we keep losing every game is living in lala land.

It’s up to him to show something and win us over. No real sign of that happening.

I can't imagine what's going through his head right now. I've never used the word disgusting to describe the players performance as a whole but the word in this case is an understatement. What do you do as a manager when your players just walk and jog for an entire half?

I'm not gonna lie. I wasn't expecting much if I'm honest but I'm really disappointed with him. I'm worried he's too tactically rigid.

Same players that won every second ball and were aggressive against Liverpool suddenly getting bullied again.

I'm a big fan of him and I think he's the exact type of character we need to get us back challenging but i am not a fan of this formation. I know we don't have the players to play it right but it just seems too unbalanced. I'll always be a 4 at the back guy.

Come on. We have just been outplayed by one of the worst teams in premier league history.

Our team is also one of the most shocking teams we've seen in this league, spannning across two separate managers and coaches in command of them in one season. Scratch that, if you include Ruud, it's three.

Except this isn't true ffs. The usual Caf extremism.
Of course we were outplayed in this second half. What game of football did you just watch?

There is a seond half to correct things and turn this into a win though. Cmon United.

And it's ultimately not about talent.

The formation is shit and offers absolutely nothing in attack but these players are so fecking shit that I can understand him wanting to play Testudo and being ultra conservative.

Unfortunately even that is beyond these players.

Only thing I'll say is I hate Amorim haters so early in his reign, but if we lose this, I can't say anything against them. Any manager no matter who you are should be getting a win against this Southampton side at home regardless of formation, players or whatever and should be rightly criticised in a one off game, especially how low we are in the table and how valuable the points are, the easiest points this team is going to get this season in the pl

Ah but against Arsenal and Liverpool they were setup to their strengths?

Not completely. Mazraoui wasn’t a RWB then either. Hojlund was still rubbish. Dalot wasn’t a WB. We were dominated against Arsenal and luckily drew. Today, we have not been so lucky.

Why ask such a stupid question anyway, watch all three games and see for yourself. The answer is right in front of you.

It's very difficult to dominate midfield with 2 player in this league. We will get pinged for 80% of the game and supposed back 3 will automatically always be back 5.
Completely agree. It's clear to anyone this formation isn't going to work unless we have two world class wing backs who are brilliant at attack and defence and know when to do both. It's going to be the end of him if he insists on keeping with it.

Yes. I saw that too. I just think there's a context. And there'll be growing pains. I'm also fine with wherever we finish in the league this season (apart from the bottom 3) as long as he's sussing out whom to keep and whom to boot out, while hopefully getting in 2 players this January even if just on loan.

We can hope and pray to get a draw.
At home.
Against soton.

Heritage.

It really isn’t, Southampton have been the better team and they’ve had multiple great chances.
4 big chances for Southampton before goal. Another chance after the goal. Just terrible. Only good period was first 5 minutes and between 15th and 25th minute where we had 2 big chances.

So as a supporter who should we point fingers at ? The leadership for hiring a coach whose basic philosophy is different to the entirety of the squad.. or should we blame Amorim for being stubborn and sticking to his principles ? The players are obviously getting the lions share of the blame. But I personally think the leadership screwed up big time by extending ETH and then hiring Amorim mid-season. 2 coaches with conflicting philosophies.

Amorim's stock will be high no matter what happens here and I think he will be a success here if given a chance. This league season is gone. It doesn't matter if we finish 10 or 17th when it comes to signing players. We are not going to be able to attract top level talent anyway. This might help up us clean up shop and get some players that suit the coach.

We have not offered anything in attack for 3 years. Its not the formation
