I don't necessarily disagree, I have said elsewhere that "lack of effort" is a lazy criticism that generally masks the REAL issues at hand...i.e. poor coaching, poor organisation, lack of talent etc...I've always differed on the idea of the team being lazy under ETH. I didn't really buy it. I generally always saw effort and on the whole a good set of professionals. What I saw was a lack of athleticism and technique coupled with this crazy idea of playing without a midfield.
The exception would be Rashford but it wasn't straightforward. Rashford rescued ETH's first season. He's got that Mr Manchester United profile.
It's not easy to then drop that player soon after. Even more so when the alternatives aren't really there or ready.
Without doubt towards the end Rashford should have been dropped more but ETH did his fair share of disciplining lazy players. That's not the stick to beat him with.
Transfers and set up. That was his problem.
However, my point about EtH was that he never really properly addressed unprofessionalism / lack of effort from certain individuals - and that can impact the motivation of the rest of the group.
Rashford, for example...consistently lazy and unprofessional. Casemiro...that panenka penalty vs Coventry would have ended him for me...Garancho...too big for his boots etc...Bruno relentlessly petulant and sulking etc...
It seems that Amorim is taking real steps to address the issues that we have clearly had with mentality. Like I say, that doesn't necessarily mean "not trying" / "not caring"...but making players accountable for their actions and attitude on the pitch at all times.
Rashford, effectively gone. Casemiro...looks to be being phased out. Garnacho, dropped. Bruno...still petulant...but at least now talking and behaving more like a leader.
