Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

I think the big difference between him and our other managers is that if he fails here he will get a big job elsewhere because he quite clearly has qualities that other managers didn't have. Hopefully he can make us great because he seems like a great guy and great manager.

The tactical sessions this week were self-evident in this game. Aspects that were tactically present today, which weren't prior :-

  • Dalot keeping the width, and on multiple occasions going on-on-one versus Trent and sprinting round the outside
  • When pressed in our half, WB's inverting passes to Hojlund at half-way and Bruno/Amad dropping in for the layoff
  • CB's making a concerted effort to pass in front of the receiving CB to keep momentum
  • Marked increase of switched balls and immediate overlap option of WB
There were, of course more to observe, however, it's plain to see that there's systematically more automation happening across the field which is making us much more successful in building possession and transitioning.

Loved his anger shining through in the post-match interview. Hope he can get through to the players that this mentality and attitude is what is needed in every game.

Arsenal and Southampton will be super interesting games. For Arsenal, you'd a similar type of game that will be end-to-end, where we have room to play again, but against Southampton it will be different. The mentality we bring against Southampton in particular will be extremely important.

So happy today, didn’t get the win but first time where I feel like we have a manager who can go toe to toe tactically. Don’t think we will be as good v smaller sides but have faith he will eventually make further tweaks.

He has it, doesn't he. I bloody love him. Now for Ineos to uphold their side of the deal and give him the tools he needs (and get rid of the absolute tools he doesn't need).

It's a mentality thing that needs addressing with regards to the 'smaller' sides. I trust Amorim to get it done.

I think it’s tactical as well ie Dalot good today because big game more counter attacking space to burst into and less intricacies needed and likewise Maz sitting back as a wing back less of issue.

We need to change personnel for the smaller sides especially in wider areas.

What an interview. He's setting the levels and expectations for the players. I agree with every single thing that he has said.
unfortunately in the extended version he went on to praise hitler and talk about using nose measurements when signing players, which you’ve now said you agree with.

Yeah fair points. To be fair we can't get too carried away we are probably a good few of players away.

But mentally I feel is a big issue. We are nowhere near as intense against the 'lesser' teams.

So everyone is on the bandwagon again.

Happy he silenced the doubters. We were level with Pool and could have won the game, second half we were better. At Arsenal and more ao at City we did well too. Let him work, give him new good players and we will fly next season

I think the Rashford cloud hanging over has some to play in it. Every interview they get asked about it. The sooner club house distractions are gone and a true leader steps up that will help. I thought Bruno was better today and McGuire also stepped up.

Would absolutely love it if he can win us the Europa League this season. Not only for getting a trophy sake and the CL qualification but it would be a good platform for him to build onto the next season.

Indeed. He's not a wizard, no manager is but some of our fans expect him to be, despite all evidence pointing to 70% of the players or more not being up to it, regardless of system or motivation. Even Pep this season has shown how mortal even the generational managers are, and that's been his team for years now. Imagine what it's been like for Ruben coming into this mess mid season.

Exactly. City have looked shocking at times and we all know how elite their team and manager is.

Yet something miraculous is expected from Amorim after picking up a downtrodden, unfit squad, with plenty of PTSD.

we needed that type of performance vs this type of team. Good stuff. Onwards and hopefully upwards.

Absolutely love his no bullshit personality and the way he is trying to raise standards at the club. He is honest and direct without being an antagonistic knob like Mourinho

Interesting post match interview where he said he can only now publicly express his anger and disappointment in the players performances in the games leading up to this , he said he did not feel he could do so when everyone else was piling on on them as well. It felt like he was disappointed most in in the effort in the previous games as he said it was not about systems or ability but something else and then highlighted the workrate today.

Despite today I still don't think he can trust these players.

Only until the next slip up

Amorim basically saying the players are game raisers. Makes sense when you consider the City game

Obviously glad for the result today but feels like too many people are getting carried away. We beat Liverpool and City to the FA Cup last season. The squad can be game raisers at times. I’m more interested in how we play against Southampton and Brighton as that should be 6 points.

Amorim has said it time and time again that he will play his way until the end and today we saw his way begin to work and stood toe to toe with (unfortunately) arguably the best team in Europe on their home ground and with us having a far inferior team of which there’s big parts that Amorim doesn’t have position wise.

We’re very much a work in progress but I think this season is a free hit for Amorim to get the tactics in place and those that he wants to keep around getting used to the system, it’s very clear we need a natural left wing back and a quality striker that can provide 25-30 goals a season but at least we can see the plan in action.

the post-match felt like a peak fergie, when fergie was angry

this could be it lads
Loved it. It reminded me so much of Fergie. Try to pick the lads up when they have a bad result then hammer them for their levels previously when they get a good result. Proper top manager stuff. This guy is the real deal, he just gets it, he gets big clubs.

I'd say 95% of this squad are done at United, unless something drastic changes.

If he doesn't see the same mentality, application and determination in training this week as today, he'll know who he can rely on going forwards.

Everyone keeps saying we need a LWB which is correct but don't we also need a RWB?

I love Maz but in this system RCB is probably his best fit.

Yeah, absolutely. We need a quality set of attacking wingbacks to make the most of this formation - not to mention another quality AM, CM and eventually CF (if it’s not to be Hojlund).

This match and the one away at City are probably the first time we try to go toe to toe with best teams in the league since Van Gaal left.

I think there will be issues and the occasional days off which we had many so far, but for the first time in a while, I am hopeful. The squad needs drastic improvements, thus it will take a while for things to click, but I have a high expectation that eventually they will and finally we will be competing for the big trophies again.

Yeah similar to when SAF went in on his players after winning the cup with Aberdeen

I'd like to think that it's whatever he is doing with them in training that is finally going in, rather than them just been up for it today.

I was shocked, we were actually good.
