Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

I really don’t give a toss about his results yet. I can SEE what he is trying to do, and I can see something building on that pitch. Combined with his charisma and personality, I am fully behind the guy.

I like what he said in the presser, especially the part pointing out that everyone at this club just got so comfortable while earning a fortune. Really happy I don’t have to listen to a coach referring to his players as Rashy , Lingzy or whatever, changing the culture is crucial.

Happy to see him annoyed. We've seen this group pull it out vs Liverpool and City in big games in the last year alone. For them to have that ability and then go MIA all too regularly in the "lesser" matches is why we are all so frustrated. The lack of mentality, lack of desire to win all the time is what has held us back for so long. Hopefully we're seeing who will and will not show up in every match.

That is the best interview a Manchester United manager has given post Fergie for me. Challenging the players - that’s the baseline, effort, commitment. Love this guy- demanding standards
The difference is, all our other managers have been so insecure and desperate to justify the job they were doing - they would have come out and talked about that performance as if we'd just won the Champions League.

Real winners and top performers don't feel the need to constantly defend themselves and justify their position.

Very very encouraging ! The club and the supporters need to back him as much as possible. Things could still remain ugly for some time, these first few weeks were very dense as he had to: (i) get to know his new players, (ii) instill a new tactical setup in a limited amount of training sessions, and more importantly (iii) diagnose an issue that looks like it involves more than just a question of player's abilities and setup. But he clearly has a plan and I am confident he will turn things around.

Isn’t that down to rotation as well and having unrealistic expectations of players like eriksen and Casemiro. Also expecting players to be something they aren’t or don’t have the ability to be like Zhikzee and Malacia.
Truth is that he has 12-13 players he can rely on to carry out what he wants and if he picks a team from anything other than those 12-13, it’s a risk
That is very true and needs to be considered. Rotation here and there is okay but wholesale changes from game to game didn't help, although some of it has been enforced.

Spoke very well yet again. The team didn't lose their heads or discipline after equalising or going down, which suggests he's able to shift mentality. We need to back him this window now.

It probably helps expose the problem a little bit more when he plays the likes of Casemiro and Eriksen, but it's still a team issue I would say

I've just looked and 10 of that starting 11 played against Wolves for example. I remember Wolves clearly winning most second balls and looking more up for it even before Bruno's sending off.

Indeed, our 2 best players today were the 2 that didn't play against Newcastle and it showed

Dalot was great today and effort wise miles above his recent performances and he’s just one of 6/7 in the same boat..rich of fernandes to talk about consistency that’s atrociously rich from him

Sell all high earning players and buy young hungry players on low wages and watch the magic

That felt like a proper turning the corner performance.
Even more so than the City game which was against a team who couldn't win for toffee, and we stole it late on against.

Need to back this up quickly though.

He’s already made more of an impact in just two matches (against City and Liverpool) than we’ve seen in years against big teams! Sure, he’ll need time and resources to really build his team, but anyone calling for him to go already must be having a laugh—let’s give the guy a proper chance, yeah?

Attacker (can be ST or LW) and a LWB and let’s ride. Getting an actual creator in those positions Dalot constantly finds himself in and we’ll be such a different team

Proof of the pudding for me will be the attitude (is that the right word?) of the team that turns up against Southampton and Brighton at OT. I totally get how disappointed he was that these players can put in a performance like that today yet in recent ‘less glamorous’ games have looked so awful. Refreshing and just what this club needs.

Definitely. When Garnacho came on he took up those areas that you know someone like Nuno Mendes or even Robinson would have a field day with.

Totally agree and this is my concern.

Today was more like a cup game then a league game and we did well even in tough cup games last season.

They are a moments team which is what Ruben and Bruno were alluding to after the game. Can they do it on a cold winter night in stoke comes to mind. Some of these players can’t do it in a lukewarm brisk summer in Manchester.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we play really well away to Arsenal and they revert to dogsh*t against Southampton. Please prove me wrong….

First time I’ve felt confident predicting the starting eleven.

Not that I’m overly excited about the personal or anything…but it was nice to have a bit of familiarity to the team.

Should be the same 11 going forward until reinforcements arrive in the transfer windows.

We simply have to build on this now. He was quite rightly fuming after game having witnessed the players performing like that yet lost the last 3 on the bounce at home before with them looking like they couldn’t give any less of a shit. He needs to drill it into the players that this is the standard every week regardless of the opposition, if you want to wear this shirt you better turn up and work your arse off every minute of every game! Do that and we’ll climb up the table in no time.

His biggest issue right now is that attacking wise we are weak and outside of his first XI he has massive issues. Ugarte missing causes a big issue. Bruno missing causes a big issue. Mainoo missing causes a big issue. Its not a step down in quality its a complete mess. The thing all those players have in common that we miss the most? Work rate and energy. Without that, no top team does well. Modern football is a game that you can't saunter through. Even against the worst teams in the league.

I'm 100% sure for the first time that we have the right man in charge

He is the one. Give him full backing and let him cook. Results will come. In spades we can already see roughly what he is trying to do. He is raising standards. Demanding of his players. Changing the culture. We were in periods matching Arsenal, City and Liverpool on their turf that hasn't happened in recent years. We will get there.

He has blamed too, for being angry. He chose terrible teams for Spurs and for Newcastle, but I am happy that he is learning and working out very quickly who is up for the fight and who isn’t.

Very encouraging, both in the fact that he has had some time with the players that has clearly had an positive impact and he is saying the right things despite a positive performance and result that would be very easy to use to blow smoke up the players arse, or his own for that matter.

Very noticeable today how much more aggressive the wingbacks were, particuly Dalot, clearly very much given instructions to be much more aggressive with his positioning, runs and general play.

The team in general looked much more comfortable with the system, more natural flow to our play today.

It's one positive game and the real test is weather we can build on this In the next few weeks and show some consistency.

Exactly!

He is resetting the culture and finally fixing things systematically. Ole and ETH only applied cosmetic fixes, which is why it all came crumbling down for them. This is why Amorim was adamant that there would be short term pain at first.

I'd it common for him wanting his center backs so involved in the attacking play or was it a one of tactic tailor made for Liverpool.

Was evident how much more lisandro and maguire got involved in our offense with ugarte sometimes staying behind to cover.

Get him a top striker and a wingback whatever cost, it's going to make his job far easier

Good game, but I still think the 2 fullbacks as wingbacks makes us way to defensive. Players really did show they can play when they are arsed, hope he gets the mandate to send away anyone he wants to get rid off.

Better player selection helps too. Ugarte-Mainoo is miles better than Casemiro-Eriksen.

I think by now he knows what he has. He has seen the players in training and in games. He tried everyone. He knows who’ll help the team and who wouldn’t. It’s time for him figure out his starting 11 for the remainder of the season. Then go for the signings he wants in the summer.
When Mainoo went off the field I feared the worst but manged to earn a draw and could easily have won the match with that last chance for Maguire. Definitely progress from more training I feel and were up against the best and most consistent team in the league today on their home patch roaring them on at 2-1 ahead.

Another week now before Arsenal away in the FA Cup and hopefully another good performance regardless of the result, beating Southampton on the Thursday after that game more important.

I should note Ruben said recently his rotation to find his best team and ones to trust the most is over now and any rotation is based on injury prevention.
