Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

Even on the red card mate instead of saying what you said most of the conversation is about how Bruno has to go, presumably because scapegoat 1 in rashford cannot be blamed so Bruno is next. Very few people in the hours after actually questioned what looked to me like a ridiculous red card because again they can get more angry if they pretend Bruno predictably threw the game away due to weak mentality or similar.

The red card was such a kick in the balls. He only made two fouls all game too. The ref seemed desperate to make a name for himself. I was frustrated with Bruno myself at the time though (and I’m a Bruno fan!). It seemed like such a poor decision by him and it exposed his main flaw, his inability to keep a cool head when the pressure is on. I’ve calmed down about it since.

That remains true regardless of your emotional state!

All United fans for the last decade: we need to take our medicine, accept the 'Woodward' path has created an awful squad and let a competent, clearly-focussed manager build something new. And be willing to accept the form that comes with that.
All United fans when the form comes with that: I dunno, this is United, you can't be losing this many matches, he might not survive.

TBH I don't even care if it's Amorim's system that works, it's more important that we show we're willing to support the club through a massive change because we NEED a massive change.

It's not fun, but supporting the team is about more than that. I like everything I've seen from Amorim to date, so for me he absolutely gets a year to try this out. Including two windows. And I'm happy he's not just trying to go back to hoofball to sneak a result. This will also work out the players that are willing to graft and suffer.

Bruno almost was forehead to forehead with him after the first. You could see the ref get pissed off in real time. He was begging for a chance to send him off.

We've been taking our medicine for over a decade now.

Even if it's prescribed by United's medical staff?

I think the main reason fans thought it was a write off is because the current narrative has to be that the squad can't possibly beat wolves, to protect the new manager. They say we are mid table until we can sign a whole new team.

If we were just a bit more honest we could come up with slightly more nuanced arguments to allow the manager a grace period, but that is not how football fans work.
The nerve to spout absolute fairy tale bollocks in your first paragraph only to follow it with a call for more nuanced arguments in your second. The squad can and should have beat wolves and we would have if that moron Bruno was on their team instead of ours.

"All United fans" is an absurd generalization

We just lost 3 nil to bournemouth, 4-3 to Spurs. We lost to Ipswich and we lost to Arsenal. There have been some improvements, but we still arnt getting results or any sort of consistency. Im not saying Amorim is a bad manager, but at this stage hes doing no better than Ten Hag.
Because he inherited an absolute shit show, assembled by Ten Hag, in his image, whatever the feck that was, it's just a group thrown together with players he previously worked with, incidentally he played a completely different style with those players previously but decided the best way to play transition football is to sign a group of players who aren't suited to that.

No manager is going to come in and immediately win every match playing swashbuckling football as the forward line is mid table at best. We have two young midfielders, the rest are past their best and should of been moved on. We have what looks to be one capable full back and our best attacking wing back is also our best in the #10.

Amorim has came in and you can clearly see what we're going to become. Ten Hag was here for 2 and a half years, spent 600 million and I have absolutely no idea what he was trying to do. So, yes, at this stage he is doing better than Ten Hag as he's trying to clean up the absolute mess he left mid way through the season with no breaks in between matches to train

This thread is depressing. One of the worst I've seen on the Caf forum. A mish-mash of pub bore, impatience, idiocy, doom scrolling and ridiculous expectation.

Do we have the players to successfully complete in the premier League?

Do we have the players with the skills to execute the coach's plan?

These are the key things for now. Too many players who are always on the sick bed. Players with poor attitude.

Rangnick was right about his open heart surgery. Ten Hag replaced a lot of players with no improvement at a cost of over £600m

We need to accept where we are and let Amorim get on with it. He needs to be allowed to do so, supported by the fans and even more importantly, by the footballing "board" of the club.

Exactly. And to be honest I would be doing the same as the ref did. Can't be getting in someone's face and not think that he would be gagging for the chance to give him a second yellow.

We've just lost 3 games in a row, including a drubbing at home and we have 3 games coming up which we have a high possibility of losing all of them. Why would this thread be anything other than depressing?

This medicine you're talking about seems like a shite placebo. Christ we've had so many false dawns now that I've lost track.

I'm hoping we back Amorim properly and let him rip the cancer out of the team. Ragnick was right, this club needs open heart surgery, but I'm not sure the current management are capable of it.

This is depressing lads

Yes it's depressing. And the truth is there is no guarantee Amorim will be a success. It could get worse. But in the long run it's best for the club to reset imo

No not really. We never accepted bad results as part of a journey. We never accepted us not being a top club anymore, not having to pick from the worlds best for a while but do sensible transfers to stabilize. It is just like the whole rebuild topic - we haven't finished any real rebuild yet, we started a few times only for it to deteriorate shortly after. The lack of continuety played a huge role with all of this. So all this "a club like United", those "we are one or two players away from..." or those "next year Top4 will be mandatory" thats exactly not what taking our medicine is. The club fell for the same bs many fans fell and the crisis got worse and worse for it.

Actually if you play for Liverpool it's fine. You can get up close and personal with referees every week. No issues cos the likes of 'Virgil' and 'Robbo' are great lads.

United's continued decline needs scapegoats. Rashy is out of the picture so Bruno is picking up the slack, with a dose of Mainoo. Won't be long before the manager is getting pelters.

Frankly there's cause for worry. Amorim and this squad just feels like a square peg in a round hole. Hopefully I am wrong but it's becoming hard to see how it works.

Get the sense the guy has been set up to fail.

Apparently Liverpool chose not to go for Amorim in the summer because they didn't feel their squad suited his tactics and you can see it. That doesn't make Amorim a bad coach. However, he works best with players we simply don't have. Some would say, including Dan Ashworth reportedly, that was obvious before we moved for Amorim.

It's time to create something, time to set the team on a new path. Even if it means a bunch of bad results.
We hired a top level manager. Why can’t he be expected to raise the level of our current squad while keeping an eye on a new path?

Sitting at 14th place and continuing to struggle will make it much more difficult to attract new players.

He should have had time to work on the formation/tactics with the team, considering we played on Thursday, so i'm hoping to see some positives tomorrow:

Fri: Day off
Sat: Training on formation
Sun: Tactics for Newcastle
Mon: Game day

I’m hoping we can get some real wingbacks on loan or to buy in the January window. Convincing Osihimen to come would be a lift as well.

Most of the narrative is that we don’t have money to spend, but I actually don’t think that is true. PSR for the PL and Uefa’s FFP, from what I’ve read are calculated at different times, FFP on Dec31 2025 and PSR on June 30 2025 I think…

That means we have time to fulfill the requirements for both in the summer.

Selling Rashford and Garnacho would raise pure profit of, say 100m (transfermarkt has them at 55m and 50m respectively). Whether you sell in January or June is immaterial. Buy Alvaro Carreras from Benfica for the reported 20m buy back clause. Loan Osimhen with a buy clause. All of these payments are made in installments anyhow. You can offload Zirkzee, Rashford, Garnacho and whoever else to fund the rebuild. Lindelof, Evans, Eriksen, possibly Casemiro be gone, we can sell Antony too (20m anyone?).

I just think twiddling our thumbs in January while Amorim is drowning is stupid. We need our scouting and recruitment departments to step up here and finally come up with some solutions instead of bringing more problems on board. With another 150m to spend in the summer and a full preseason, we could be well on our way to revitalizing the squad.

During Ten Hags era, you can see the coach’s tactics weren’t good enough, but you could also see the players are not good enough, now under Amorim, you can see a system that’s he’s working to achieve but clearly see the players are not good enough, however now it seems like mostly silly individual mistakes is what’s mostly hurting us, unlike with Ten Hag, it was the tactics what was mostly hurting us.

I doubt it. I bet they only do like 3 hours a day training

I was looking at the schedule and it does ease up after the game against Newcastle. There are only 8 games in the next 5 weeks followed by a two week break coming up in early Feb if we get booted out of the FA cup by Arsenal. Since Amo keeps mentioning the limited time he has had on the pitch with the players so far, this should give him a good opportunity to be on the training pitch with the players and try to get his ideas across.

Out of the 8 games: two are in the Europa league against FCSB & Rangers; which should be relatively easy; two home games against the 19th and 20th placed teams in the league & a free hit in the FA cup against Arsenal. The other three games are Brighton at home and Liverpool & Fulham away - which would be tougher.

Dec 30th - Newcastle (H)
Jan 5th - Liverpool (A)
Jan 12th - Arsenal (A) - FA cup

The gaps between these games allows sometime on the training pitch to prepare the next six games before the break. I hope we can scrape a win against Newcastle and are able to give a good account of ourselves in the Liverpool and the Arsenal games. If we can do that it can give us a good platform for the rest of the season.

Because that is your nature?

Give this guy what he needs. He’ll be cooking next season. Hope we stay patient with him. Meanwhile let’s go all out for the Europa league. Another season without CL will alter our transfers and put us back with money again.
