Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

@romufc Continuing our conversation from the previous thread. Your post...

"You undervalue our squad... That is what a coaches job is though, squeeze the best from the squad.

I have not said its a great squad, its a very good one though. Our defence is good, you talk about a rapidly aging midfield? Mainoo is ageing? Ugarte is ageing? Mount is ageing? Our oldest midfielder is 32... and you are talking about it being an aged midfield?

Our front line has issues but its got talent in there.. Amad, Garnacho, Rashford, Hojlund are all there, they just need a coach to allow them to get into positions to score.

If you think the consistent, go have a look at Hojlund's conversion rate since he has been here compare to every other ST in the PL."

Yes, we have a rapidly aging midfield. You just happened to leave out Bruno, Eriksen, and Casemiro from your list...two of which our or most played midfielders. Yes, Mainoo is a great guy to build around. Ugarte may turn out to be a great player for us but is very much an unknown still. Mount is laughable to list. He's barely played for us and when he has played hes been awful at everything besides pressing. We need to be thinking about a Bruno replacement and a partner for Mainoo (or cover if Ugarte succeeds) sooner rather than later.

Defense is good, but we have a gaping hole on the left side. We arguably need to sign two left backs this summer unless Amass proves hes ready to step up. Shaw and Malacia shouldn't even be considered in future plans.

I fully disagree regarding our front line. Are they talented? Yes. Are they finishers? No. Only Rashford has any sort of scoring pedigree and that only shows its face every 1/4 seasons. Hojlund has a great conversion rate, but we won't know if that holds true when his chances go up. And he needs to start creating for himself some unless hes going to be a Ruud like box poacher. And I dont think his movement around the box is good enough to be that guy. As for talent levels in our front line...are they better than any of the top 4-6 teams? Definitely not.

Im not saying our squad is shit. Im saying we are at least 2 summers from being a squad that should finish top 4 comfortably. And by that time, a huge part of our identity (Bruno) should be getting phased out. Its going to be a difficult task for Amorim.

Cant wait to see the much taked about 3 4 3 formation that he is going to use. I personally think a 35 2 would suite us more.the reason being
one of our glaring fault is the midfield and in a 3 4 3 formation we normally play two midfielders and we are even struggling with 3 midfielders and can be fatal but in 3 5 2 we can play 3 midfielders and two attakers and we can sacrifice one of the wing players . None of the three attackers score anyway

Let's hope he can bring in some sort of cohesion in this lot. I hold out a bit of hope for him as he's young and Hungry otherwise this lot could throw another guy under the bus.

There’s a huge amount of dross he’s going to need to clear out before he gets anywhere close to success. Our whole midfield & attack needs completely gutting and starting again.

How poorly have we recruited, lads? If Ruben can get a tune out of this lot and have them playing good football he's a genius. We need a genius.

My God, I don't envy his task at all. To be honest, I have no idea how he does it.

Not sure what he’s gonna do with this lot. Technically so poor it’s beyond belief. They make simple passing look like a chore

Collosal job on his hands. If he's not 100% ready he's going to fail, he needs to be absolutely ruthless because this club have recruited insanely poorly.

Good thing his first two matches are Ipswich and Everton. Good time to bed in the 343.

He’s got a huge amount of work on his hands. So many players stinking the place out on a regular basis and we can barely hit the target never mind score a goal. Good luck Ruben!

Roy Keane making the point that is a very average group of players and Amorim will need a longer contract to sort this out and make Utd competitive again.

Maybe a radical system change is needed because it's going to take a lot to sort this attack out.

Has anyone mentioned he’s got a bit of work to do?

Oddly that’s usually why you bring in a new manager and sack the old one. You know, cause things need to improve?

I'm giving him a bye this season, as he's got a lot of shit to wade through and sort out.

Barely any of our players have a high footballing IQ, so if he has us resembling his tactics and functioning well of sorts, I'll be happy.

I do think he's going to have to prioritise the EL to get CL for next season.

I've seen this point a lot, but I don't think I'm quite ready to buy it.

To me it's a group of players that's had no coaching or direction for 2 years and who regularly look like they've never met each other before. They're individually better than the collective looks right now.

There are some players who I don't see having a future here, but the majority I feel like with the right guidance, and with a manager who can give them some confidence, they can do significantly more.

Biggest issue for me is going to be if Amorim can actually make us a team that looks after the ball. I really don't know how much of that is a mentality issue and how much of it is players simply lacking the skills needed.

someone’s agent and solicitor are going to come in to 50 voicemails tomorrow.

We can’t win the race with a broken car by changing its paint or the driver so not sure what Ruben could do with this team to be honest!!

Hopefully we get 5 or 6 good players in the summer otherwise we will be in this messy cycle for a long time

16.8 the expected goals stat for United this season in the Premier League and have only scored 9 goals in ten games. A big issue in the team that won't be easy to fix under Amorim.

I think under a better system, these shite players will look a lot better.
Let's hope the new head coach gets it right.

Two things he can do strainght away to het more out of the team.

1. Put in place his system and work on the automisims.

2. Drop underperforming players to set a benchmark.

The squad is clearly lacking in quality and will need plenty of new additions. But we are also very poorly coached and organised by ETH both with and without the ball.

There is plenty of scope for improvement with some improved coaching, organisation and motivation. Not going to turn into world beaters but can be improved from what we are currently seeing.

The average level of composure & finishing of the squad is so bad.. It's gonna be a work to better that!

That's dreadful. How does he make it better without funds in January (that probably won't be available)? Best hope is that a few of the forwards really click into gear because it's going to be a really frustrating season if this keeps up.

I'm maybe going to be disappointed, but I'm expecting nothing other than a complete transformation when Amorim comes in.

If we can get most of the injured players back then the sqaud isn't as bad as some pundits keep saying it is assuming Amorim can get them going.

It's also hardly far fetched to say top 4 is still doable, with Forest 3rd, and still somehow just 6 points off 4th.

I hate the formation but I’m sick of watching us these days so… willing to give anything a shot
I dont mind the formation. As long as we start winning games I could not care less. And Sporting are scoring tons of goals too
