Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

Not bothered by his choices to rotate today. This is lowest priority competition we’re in so less games. Focus on EL and PL. all that said we need a massive clear out.

He mentioned in his press conference he never talks about referees, and never will.

Erm, where are the marginal gains here? If it works for Fergie, it should work for him. Referees are human and will make mistakes. You will see more mistakes against our team than in favour of you don’t call them out.

Conceding way too many, poor at set pieces, still not controlling entire spells.of games, just mere moments, team not settled yet, players dropped, still zero consistency in games and from game to game,
can't exactly say it's been a brilliant start from the new manager, lots of work to do, just hope he can a solution and quick.

A top 4 slot my friend. We need to go for that d it’s critical to the squad changes we need to make for next season.

Champions league money and we do far better on the PSR front. It’s a tall ask but definitely the priority over the league cup.

need to win the next 2 games and see where we start the new year in terms of points differential
Can't we do both, as in win a trophy and get top four??
Why does one need to be a over the other? Three games to a trophy, not exactly that much to ask is it?

Has he done anything correct yet?

We turned up to Spurs with a reserve side. Im not that bothered we lost. We saw the momentum shift when we put better players on the field.

Who needs a semi final with Liverpool twice in January? Get some good players in the window and concentrate on winning league games and qualify for Europe. We are still in the CL race with winable games coming up.

A couple of decent forwards and a left back in January and we are cooking.

You can quote open play xg all you want but maybe count what we’ve conceded and XG is fecking irrevelant to that stat.
XG must be the pointless stat out there. I preferred it when it wasn’t a thing.

It's almost 2025 and some people are still ignoring and dismissing underlying stats such as xG...

He never did in Portugal, where the bullshit is much bigger than in England when it comes to refs.
It's no surprise he won't talk about the refs in England as well.

You may not realise it, but you've got good refereeing in the EPL. It's the VAR that sucks.

Hojlund is not important at all. We desperately need to buy a quality forward.
I’d rather spent the money improving our entire left side and rejuvenating our CM options with the belief that Hojlund is a viable option in an improved side with better service and creating more chances in better positions.

I am starting to wonder & imagine what it would have been like if we had spent 600+ million quid on the squad under Ruben instead of ...

Agreed. Its a real Achilles heal not to have a prolific striker. This is Man United. We dont have time to wait for Hojlund to develop.

At the moment it looks like a terrible waste of £70m

On the result...3 pts v Bournemouth and we'll soon forget about this game.

No need to wonder we just have to wait , if Amorim is good enough and shows enough progress our spending would be in and around 600m before the end of third summer window under him .

He will be backed like all the others before him .

Not sure if it’s wum or Erik Ten Hag in disguise :lol:

He's said it a few times that if he doesn't try to do things his way now, we will suffer more in a year's time than if he didn't.

The squad rotation doesn't make 'sense' if he wants to win every game but it makes totally sense for the sake of rotation and trying to bring everybody on board in the long run. I don't like losing and not fielding our best players but I get it and I support it even if it doesn't satisfy my immediate gratification.

We did play well with the ball and were the better team, that’s why it’s so frustrating. No way we should be losing to that lot.

Just start Evans, Onana and Amad. He is full of energy. No need to handicap yourself needlessly. It would have been an easy win tonight.
This is so funny to me. You say that like we didn't get slapped 3 nil (should have been much more) at home by the same opposition this season.
I'm fine with going out at this stage. The progress is clear as day. Europa league and the EPL are the only two comps I care about this.

Are you talking about the result under the old manager whose tenure was so bad, he was sacked?

Spurs are shite and were there for the taking tonight. We went out because of the team we put out, pure and simple.

I think he is rotating not only to keep players fresh, not pushing them to injuries ( unfortunately Mount, Shaw and Lindelof are all very delicate ) but to create a team spirit. I think it’s great idea to keep everybody involved believing they have a chance.

There is no way we would win the league this year and a League cup win would make no difference long term but if he gets 80% of the group firing even he knows they aren’t good enough, he can introduce new players during the windows and have us competing very soon.

It’s obvious, the system is working with the players who want to work and impressive to the eye that we are improving so quickly. If it wasn’t for some stupid defensive errors by individuals, we would have won tonight.

I am pretty impressed by how quickly we can see his methods working overall.

Not sure we will have level of financial flexibility/generosity by then -- considering that we may have to put money aside for the new stadium

You are right forgot about the possible new stadium it would definitely have impact on our spending going forward .

Let's hope there will some level of personal generosity from the owners -- so we dont have that Wenger lost decade where they had to survive on crumbles. And only for Arteta to enjoy the benefits a decade later.
They only paid less that £400million for the Emirates. But 20 years later I suspect we will be spending north of £3 billion for ours.

Agreed

I can still remember how Klopp's press conference made referees stopped giving pens to us.

First half our general play was decent just with a blunt attack. Second half Eriksen's physical limitations come to the fore and Spurs overran us until we made the subs, at which point we dominated from then on.

Overall it's good signs and shows high promise for the future as we improve the squad and get further training, despite the result on the day.

Yea there's definite value in gaming the referees in the media and in the pitch and some of the greats have been adept at doing that.

If there's anything these past few months of PMGOL related scandals have taught us is that those cnuts actually do pay quite a ton of attention to what's being discussed in the media and their public perception.

Hopefully something that comes with time/more experience in the league and familiarity with the putrid level of officiating in the country for Amorim

Not concerned about the result.
He is getting a good look at all his players and giving them a chance to impress and this competition should only be for our fringe players anyway.

We score a lot under him. Like a lot. Regardless who starts. This is the floor, it can only improve with chemistry. Reminds me of early Klopp Liverpool. After a couple defensive signings under their belt they left the rest of the league behind. The system being this good this early with no preseason is actually impressive.

One World Class Striker
One World Class LAM (e.g. wirtz)
One world class LWB

we will be wonderful.

Are people actually upset we dropped out of Mickey mouse cup?
Behave, part of our downfall is the fact that this meaningless troohy actually became important to some of our fans.

Amorim is doing great things.

Long way to go but as I mentioned in the A. Davies thread a few weeks ago, with a few additional pieces like Davies or Branthwaite would be, for example, I really think Amorim is capable of building the best defense in the world.

We're a very compact side already, with all these makeshift defenses we're putting out every game. We're only set at GK and CCB, so it's very impressive what Amorim has done so far.

We need new players at LCB, RCB, LWB and RWB.

Branthwaite is not a priority

Priorities imo:

1) LWB - Shaw/Dalot ain't it
2) ST - Rasmus replacement
3) Left sided creative player - Mason Mount replacement
4) LCB

Disappointing result, encouraging performance. Theme of our season so far. Hopefully we can start combining good performances with good results soon enough.

I have no issues with the rotation. We still had Martinez, Dalot, Mazraoui, Ugarte, Bruno and Hojlund. That's half of our first choice XI. It was a perfect blend of starters and backups.

Our defense messed up more than our GK in this game for me. Literally all of them very slow to react from the initial shot for the first goal which meant Solanke ended up in acres of space, for the 2nd goal Yoro way too slow to react to the pass from Son to Maddison and Martinez compounded it with a weak clearance and Martinez again with very useless defending for the 3rd goal.

Priorities imo:

1) LWB - Shaw/Dalot ain't it
2) ST - Rasmus replacement
3) Left sided creative player - Mason Mount replacement
4) LCB
You can make an argument that number 4 should be RWB. Mazraoui is functional in that role, because he's a good all round football. He's not actually suited to the role. He doesn't really have the carry skills and speed to be an outside threat.

1) LWB - Shaw/Dalot ain't it
2) ST - Rasmus replacement
3) Left sided creative player - Mason Mount replacement
4) RWB Quenda type
5) LCB
6) CDM rotation for Ugarte and Mainoo.

We have plenty of work to do.
