Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

Our greatest ever manager rotated loads. It was one of his greatest strengths and enabled us to fight on every front every season

Right, and what are we fighting for this season that makes it such a need at the moment?

Really impressed by him despite the bizzare squad we have assembled at huge cost. I fear some will be expensive write-offs, hopefully we can get some upcoming gems to help our top coach along. We could be a force in quick time if we get the recruitment right.

PL positioning, league form should justifiably be our priority this season after our worst modern PL finish last season and the nightmare start to this one

Amorim paid the price for too much experimenting and too much trust in players that the football suits should have told him have no chance here. Disappointed because I think Spurs weren't very good. Oh well. Let's hope the tinkering stops soon.
He has had 8 games, no pre-season and minimal time to do his homework. How exactly do you expect him to work things out if you're not even going to let him experiment in cup games?

Long way to go but as I mentioned in the A. Davies thread a few weeks ago, with a few additional pieces like Davies or Branthwaite would be, for example, I really think Amorim is capable of building the best defense in the world.

We're a very compact side already, with all these makeshift defenses we're putting out every game. We're only set at GK and CCB, so it's very impressive what Amorim has done so far.

We need new players at LCB, RCB, LWB and RWB.

I think he's doing his job quite well.its the job of the club now to get him players who would suit his ideas. And really it shouldn't be so difficult because his ideas are clear.
I always feel it's easier for Liverpool under Klopp and City to get their recruitment right because it was obvious what suits their playing philosophy and I think it's the same here now.

1. We’re controlling more of the play and for longer periods. There’s less chaos, but we’re still too lightweight up front (not much Amorim can do about that until he starts splashing the cash) and capable of fecking up at the back.
2. He’s making changes at HT or around the 55-60 minute mark, and looking for ways to get a win.
3. He comes across as a decent bloke and excellent communicator with a modern approach

He’s shown more signs of being a proper coach in a few weeks than ETH did in 2+ years.

Cup results don’t really bother me. Would be nice to get a few wins and get more matches to figure out his preferred team etc. Main thing for me is we’re starting to see a style of play - one that involves keeping the ball for a feckin change.

Amad, Mainoo, Ugarte, Yoro, Mazraoui. That’s a solid core right there to build around. The likes of De Ligt and Hojlund are important as well, get in an LCB, LWB, left 10, a couple CMs to replace Eriksen and Casemiro and I think we’ve got a solid squad.

14 conceded in 8 is a problem

We're mixing and matching different defenders in fairness, I mean Lindelof came in today out of nowhere. I think De Ligt, Maguire and somebody else is the way to go right now. Preferably Yoro is he starts to adapt.

Hojlund is not important at all. We desperately need to buy a quality forward.

Have to say I'm very impressed by his start. Feels like we have finally found a good manager.

You can clearly see the progress he’s made already, unfortunately until we rid ourselves of the shite in this squad any good work will constantly get undermined by moments of utter stupidity that permeates through this s team.
Yea, the main point is we've got the right manager, at last.

Exactly, there was a interesting piece in the athletic that explained utds current training schedule with so many games coming in thick and fast. Amorim just doesn't have the time to do the work he needs to on the training ground currently. He will need a full pre-season.

I think we've been a lot better than results would suggest. There's a lot of winnable games coming up now, if we lose again in 2024 I'll be extremely disappointed. Should be looking to take maximum points from Bournemouth, Newcastle and Wolves.

We seem to have more control over games now in a way we never did under Ten Hag.

What is the modern obsession with making changes early in the match? It should be a last resort because you’ve messed up your selection.

Being a connoisseur of David Moyes, the only good football manager is a fantastic posting gimmick.

Just don't keep at it as long as the Poch one.

Why do you even bother to post.Embarrassing if your not a Utd fan, even worse if you are.

End of the day he needs to rotate his squad we have a lot of league games coming up and he needs to try and keep them fresh. Only thing I'd say is probably could have played onana instead but I guess it's easy to say in hindsight. Don't think we'll be seeing Bayindir much from now on

We need to cut out the goals conceded from set pieces and individual errors at the back but the general level of play is a lot better under Amorim. There's obvious need for recruitment in a few positions in the next couple of transfer windows but it's nice to see a coach who can actually improve some of the players he's inherited too.

I am very impressed by Amorim, he realises these lot are crap. Just give him 2 good transfer windows and he will mean business. He rotates with half our team with 3rd choice players and almost pulls off a draw by the end. Twice in a row away from home we dominated the opposition, no sitting back.

Shows his in-game management to handle adversity. Imagine him with a full set of his own players.

It’s good that he recognises winning a trophy means nothing in terms of progress in the league.

Mate, don’t try and use logic on these folk.

There’s no point, they’ll never be happy and live in perpetual misery.

I'm seeing a lot of positives. We're definitely finding our character. He'll need some time to make us consistent, but we're getting there.

A top 4 slot my friend. We need to go for that d it’s critical to the squad changes we need to make for next season.

Champions league money and we do far better on the PSR front. It’s a tall ask but definitely the priority over the league cup.

need to win the next 2 games and see where we start the new year in terms of points differential

There was always the sense at 2-0 down that we might get back in to it simply because the players wanted it and were up for it. Too often under Ten Hag the games were long gone at that point and the players accepted it. Hopefully they all get a sense now they are playing for their spot every single time they train.

You can quote open play xg all you want but maybe count what we’ve conceded and XG is fecking irrevelant to that stat.
XG must be the pointless stat out there. I preferred it when it wasn’t a thing.

We already look a better side under him controlling games home and away. We just need to cut out the individual errors that are costing so many goals, hardly a fault of the head coach. He’s also rotating heavily doing his pre season assessment mid season which is not ideal at all. With superior players in his style who he knows, likes and trusts, I think we’re finally in good hands with this guy.

It's the most pointless stat out there, close to a singular game expected goals stat..

Its a strange season. We are somehow only 6 points off the top 4. But I dont know if we have the consistency to keep our foot on the gas and rack up mainly wins. Like I dont Amorim has an ideal 11 of players for his system within our squad yet and I dont see us doing anything in January.

If we can grind out wins in most of the games we should win I think we might be able to do it
