Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

Is it fair to say it was always going to be the set up at the back that takes the longest to adapt to in terms of system?

These mistakes seem to be issues with positioning, pressing and difficulty in the wingback areas.

Going forward we look much better under Amorim already, even if he’s still working on the best balance.

Don't think so, feel like coaches usually fix the defense first

The ball needs to come out of the defense much faster than it does currently. Our keeper & defenders ponder too much in the ball.

Hang on, he used substitutions to make us play better during a game. Is that allowed?

We often talk about selling players who don’t fit the system. Well, our history in offloading deadwood isn’t great and chances are most of these players will continue to be here next season.

We’ve seen managers come in at other clubs and impose a style and make a difference fairly quickly after about 10-12 games. I hope this will be the case for us too.

Think we are closer to figuring out what his best team is. Amad and Hojlund need to be part of the front three. The final spot can be Mount or Bruno depending on if he ultimately wants to play Bruno deeper or use Mainoo.

The Wing backs, and really the entire back 6 are the biggest question marks I have, but we are slowly seeing him figure out who his best team is IMO.

I criticised Amorim for failing to positively effect the last two games, I have to praise him for decisively improving us with his changes tonight.

If you are going to be negative then you will ask why he picked the team he did to start. However, he wasn't passive. He didn't let things drift and the action he took salvaged the situation.

I just hope we see him play Bruno closer to the opposition goal, where he does the most damage for us, rather than continue to experiment with people at #10 who just aren't up to it.

I hope so too but I’m not holding my breath. Some of these players don’t seem to have the technicality or the motivation (or both) to play better than they currently have. It seems some of them clearly will not be part of the long- term plan here, but whether or not we can cut the loss is a different matter. I will be so pleasantly surprised if we can somehow shift Rashford or Shaw off for a decent fee.

id like to see this!
Worth a go I guess

Who u got as 2nd Stringers FC? This lot would be so much fun

Rashford

Mainoo - Zirkzee

Malacia - Eriksen - Casemiro - Dalot

Shaw - Maguire - Yoro

Players seem to be gradually catching on to his tactics and level of intensity he wants them to play with. The rest of the year won't be without random disappointments, but it does look like we're seeing incremental improvements throughout. We do need to get rid of dead wood players and replace them with ones who are bought into Amorim's philosophy.

Agreed. I just can’t see any club willing to gamble on Rashford and Shaw. The risk is too high for such a significant outlay in wages.

So many brain dead players for him to either magically fix or get rid of.

We need to expose all the players who can't hack it in this system and sell them off.
Exactly this.
I see people talking about a lack of new manager bounce like it some tangible thing that should just be expected. In most cases it's a toxic atmosphere being lifted or removing that feeling of learned helplessness. A few tactical tweaks, hand some players a little more freedom until eventually the cycle repeats and you start all over again with another new manager. This is basically what happened with Ole and ten Hag, we papered over the cracks and tried to hide the imperfections.
Amorim is coming in and tearing everything down, leaving the players who aren't good enough nowhere to hide. He'll start fresh from new foundations rather than allow there to be hidden faults compromising his system.

He has a very specific setup while half his squad is smorgasbord of the previous managers favorites

It will take weeks and likely months to properly work out but the build up shape is right there for all to see so I hope fans can take deep breaths and be a bit patient.

That's always the risk when you hire a manager with a set system in the middle of the season, especially if you're not an Atletico Madrid or Inter (aka squads filled with malleable footballers of high technical quality)

So this his best 11 then?

Hojlund

Mount - Amad

Garnacho - Fernandes - Ugarte - Antony

Martinez - De Ligt - Mazraoui

Onana

Would like to see this with Yoro in for Antony and Mazraoui as the RWB, and Mainoo for either Fernandes or Mount.

Mount and Bruno is arguably the best two 10's at the moment. Amad needs to play RWB, think it suits him better having space to dribble into rather than as a 10 where he's playing with his back to goal sometimes.

Rotation policy works when you bring on subs because they're naturally fresher.

Impact subs and in game management are like night and day compared to Ten Hag. The timing of substitutions is also incisive.

His main problems are not self-inflicted ones; he's just trying to make the best of a rather ordinary squad.

A LWB and an AM would really improve our attacking game and generate more chances. Defensively we are ok for now.

Im looking for the post match interview with Amorim but cant find it. Can someone help?

That's an old issue. Our midfield has been poor at giving the player in possession options for years now.

I’d like him to try Maz on the left:

Hojlund
Mount Bruno
Mazraoui Mainoo Ugarte Amad
Martinez De Ligt Yoro
Onana

I do feel for him sometimes. You could be the greatest tactician on Earth but it's useless when you've got a team of players who actively sabotage the team. It's like this team needs to start to dig itself into a hole before they actively start trying to win the game.
We had no right to lose that Forest game and sure enough today again we made what should've been a comfortable victory a hard fought game. Im quite sure he can't believe his eyes when he watches what goes on in some of our matches. Utter chaos.

When he gets moments alone with his own thoughts he's got to be thinking how so much money can be wasted on players. He's come from a team built on sales, and shoestring budget (compared to us), that was running away with the league and putting City on their arse in the champions league.

He goes home tonight after watching 150-200k+ per week players just not giving a shit and struggling against complete unknowns. It would be enough to give anyone insomnia.

Why does Mount keep getting added to these line ups? What’s he shown to deserve him starts? Missed crucial chances tonight

Quality control
He’s a natural fit for the way Amorim wants to set us up and play. Ruben has also already voiced his love for Mason so I guess it’s a gamble based on that too.
He is a shit footballer, pointless

Beat Rangers at home in January and we've qualified in the top 8. This really was a great result tonight.
