Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

Few Interesting takes from these Trainingvideos for me:

-Shaw played as LCB, Yoro RCB
-Malacia Left Wing back
-Antony Right Wing back
-Amad+Mason the two attacking midfielders behind the Striker
-Rashford operated as the Number 9

I think we could see something like:

Onana
Yoro Deligt Martinez/Shaw
Mazraoui Ugarte Casemiro Malacia/Dalot
Amad Bruno
Rashford/Hojlund

Mount's the new spare cone?

Going by the video's being shown and his preference regarding his tactical set we're likely going to see something like this :

---------------------------------Onana----------------------------------
----------------Martinez--Bruno--Amad------------------
Ugarte----------------------------------------------------Mainoo
----------------------De Ligt---------Rashford---------------------------
--------------------Casemiro-------Dalot---------------------------------
--------------------------------Hojlund----------------------------------------

had me going for a moment there, fair play

I’m sure that are ETH training videos out there showing patterns of play. I’m not buying anything until we convincingly beat Ipswich. We’ve had this dance before and we all know how it ends.

Mount remains fit and he will end up a first name on the team sheet player under RA, I’d bet money on it.

Based on what? I think people are just getting a bit giddy over a few videos where we had a barebones squad available for training. Talking about Mount being first name on the team sheet, Shaw starting, Malacia straight back in. These are all the players who haven’t been good enough to be selected by their country or have been injured. There might be one or two surprises but these training sessions are nothing to go off.

Mate the combination of your name and this post is absolutely perfect.

I just think he is the type of player who suits the attacking midfield role that RA uses.

Not based entirely on the video.

He's probably our best equipped forward midfielder for the new system so I think he very well could thrive if he can stay fit.

He played his best football as an advanced left sided CAM type in the past so he could do well in that role. Think Amorim will appreciate his pressing ability.

Would give license for Bruno to be the 8

Except I have 0 reason why you’d want Bruno trying to ball carry and do dirty work while Mount, a less productive 10, gets pushed further forward.

Reality is he’s probably rotational/sub level unless he magically finds his Tuchel era purple patch again.

I don’t think we’re likely to see that.

Girl y’all messed up. I couldn’t have fecked up so badly if I tried. Nice job!

He talked about his "identity" several times in the interview, as opposed to tactics/formation/pressing etc. Maybe it has been discussed here already but does anybody know what identity can we expect in Amorim's squad? If I think about some of our past managers, SAF was aggression, LVG was possession, Mourinho was counterattack(?) and ETH was fast transitions.
A collective and conscious way of doing things - pressing, working off the ball to get it back, building up from behind and finding ways to get forward. Dynamics and collective patterns so repeated each player knows how to behave in coordination with its position, the space and the colleagues.

Basically, a team’s patterns, routines and movements both with and without the ball in team’s possession.

If he has Antony on RWB, it will be Malacia playing LWB (Shaw has not speed for doing all the left flank up and down).

If he has Mazraoui/Dalot playing RWB, it will be Garnacho playing LWB.

One more Traditional full-back (plus the 3 CB defense should be fine), one winger on the flanks.

I think Amad Will end up playing RWB (Antony out) when a interior forward/Creative 10 be signed. Until then, Amad will play upfront. Bruno too. Rashford and Mount as backups.

I remember reading about how even under ETH we were apparently great in training but it would all go to shit on match day. Not sure if that was true or just made up to defend the staff but hope we don’t see it under Amorim too.

That was Benni McCarthy. I’m not sure what he was on when he said that. We can’t have night and day at training and match day every single week. Surely it’s your job as coach and staff to help fix it if that was the case.

One of the things you must know about this guy is that he played most of his career under Jorge Jesus - one of the best portuguese coaches ever tactically speaking and one of the worst coaches ever in the Way he dealt with the Players who didn’t Play so much in his teams.

He learned what to do (his compreension of the game, collective movements and tactics is outstanding, due to so many years training with Jorge Jesus and due to having played as a footballer in so many positions on the field) and what not to do in terms of locker room and Squad management.

Special one indeed.

The only logical reason I can of is that our players are poor off the ball and hence can’t simulate the sort of pressure in training that opponents do. Which is also the coaching staff’s responsibility of course.

Nobody ever thought Mount was signed as our first choice attacking midfielder as that would be Bruno.
Mount was signed to be the second 10/8 in a 4-3-3. He just got injured. McTominay was basically playing that role last season.

A lot of bites mate, fair play.

I like Benni but I think he was trying to save face more than anything.

Lukey, Mounty, Jonny, Lenny & Mally...looks like The Cripples are on tour again and they have got a new manager. Exciting times ahead!

We have a good coach here, I hope that it works out for him and us. Love that he gets himself involved, he clearly let's the players help lead the system, at one point in the video before a restart he tells them to start with something, and it sounds like he is telling the player it's a good idea. I like it.

We saw hundreds of Ten Hag training videos, didn't see any of the famed stuff he did at Ajax nor anything like this attention to detail that you can already see in him. He is very infectious in his mannerisms, I love it.

Thanks! Our previous managers have emphasised coordinated team play off the ball and during build up, but in the attacking third they have preferred pretty much a freestyle. This is true for Mourinho, Ole and ETH.

Do you think he would drill team patterns and routines in the attacking third? Thats something likes of Rashford have never seen.

The interview…the training session…it’s hard not to feel exited about United again. Saying that we’ve been here before, but I can’t help but feel cautiously optimistic. If nothing else it’s great to have a positive, charismatic & likeable manager at the helm.

Cue a 3-0 Ipswich win on Sunday.

I don't know about you guys, but this is the first time I am really excited about a post Fergie managerial appointment. Could be because I know the least about this guy. :p

I knew that Moyes was never going to succeed here. VG's football bored me to death. Even though I wanted Jose as I felt we needed a winner at that stage, but with a heavy heart as I was never a fan of his football or his antics. Giving Ole anything more than the interim job was always going to amount to nothing. Was skeptical about ETH because he looked like an oaf in his interviews and didn't seem to have the necessary charisma. Also, I watched the Eredivise version of the FA cup final and his football didn't impress me. It was more similar to the shit he tried to play here than the famous "Total football" that his hagiographers on the CAF told us he is going to play.

With Ruby I am more hopeful than anytime in the last 12 years. First, I have always liked a 3 at the back system and think it could be exciting if played the right way. Second, he is young and upcoming manager that I have desired for the last 12 seasons. Third, he is coming here after breaking the hegemony of the two big clubs in Portugal, which to me suggests he makes his teams pull above their weight. Fourth, he wouldn't have to deal with clowns in the form of Woody or Murtough or Arnold but has decent folks to deal with (still early days, but there is hope). Fifth, I don't think our defense and midfield are as bad as ETH made them look and is better than at anytime in the last 12 seasons. The attack is still lacking but merely adding a prolific striker can take it up a level or two, imo. Sixth, in Yoro, Mainoo, Garnacho and Amad we have some excellent young players who can develop into superstars with the right attitude and guidance.

This is my favorite time of the year to watch football and with the internal football done for now, I am really really looking forward to watching United. It may well fizzle out like the previous hundred times, but for now, there is hope in the air. Go Ruby!

bang out of order

Still remember that ETH training video where Sancho crossed from the right and Rashford scored, and we were thinking we are so back.

the guy is crazy hands-on - it helps that he's young and relatively recently retired and in good shape, so he can get involved and keep up with the lads

Yeah he is, wonder if we could see a bit of that post match Guardiola coaching if he thinks someone could have done something better

From the video there's clear emphasis from him to keep the ball in the middle, the wing backs aren't expected to participate heavily in the build up play.
He doesn't seem to be trying to implement a press, instead they sprint back after every ball loss, or simulated loss, it could just be that it's his first session and he doesn't want to be doing too much too soon.
Clearly if you're playing in this central zone that's back three, and box midfield there's a lot of emphasis on retaining possession (Bruno, Casemiro am looking at you). It would suit Mainoo so much to have other players playing so close to him and Amad as well.
I also wonder if he'll have an alternate system like a 352 so either Marcus or Garnacho can play Alongside Hojlund.

Best wait to see what training happens when all the internationals return…..they won’t be around long for any proper training so will be very interesting to see how that first starting line up looks.

Get the feeling though that anyone going through the motions is gonna struggle for game time….its a fresh start for everyone so let’s see how that effects commitment and desire as we haven’t see too much of that for a while.
