Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

Mount remains fit and he will end up a first name on the team sheet player under RA, I’d bet money on it.
That's highly unlikely to happen. When a player gets this amount of muscle injuries at such a relatively young age, they hardly ever manage to go for long periods without suffering these recurring injuries.

Hopefully he'll, wasn't it in this half space role he did so well under Tuchel?

I think he will play with Rashford as the 9 on Saturday by the looks of it. It’s been hinted at in reports as well. So Bruno and one other behind.
Yeah I don't think Rashford will be great in those roles behind the striker, it requires a bit more finesse in close spaces on the ball and intensity off the ball than he's capable off.
I worry for Garnacho as well.

I know we shouldn't get excited over training videos... but I am going to anyway!

I saw alot of clips of Ten Hags training sessions too but they were mostly drills, this is more a in game type play.. when he says ball lost and everyone runs back and he watches the team response.. you have to get them doing this so it becomes second nature in game.

I saw him talk to Kobbie on positioning.. when to dummy, opening passing lanes.

To top it off, the players are saying it was a top session, which means they enjoyed it. How many times have we ever seen a player put on socials about training ? we mostly saw winning team pics.

The cynic in me thinks that's "office" politics. But it's hard not to get excited.

Dalot, de Ligt, Eriksen, Højlund and Mazraoui should be returning today or tomorrow, so it's starting to look like a squad as well.

To be fair I bet there were at the start of Ten Hag's reign. I'm not going to read into the social media guff by the players, half of them don't even control their s accounts.

Agreed, I know that is probably what it is.. as soon as Casemiro put one up... you know what it was. They still need to enjoy training though, we could have ended up with a manager where it was more of the same.

This time getting a new manager feels different, dont know if its just me, the toxic negativity isn't there, we sacked someone who was not good enough rather than it becoming toxic.

Will some of the players coming back be a few days too late though to work themselves into the line up? If Amorim trains with Rashford Amad Mount... will Bruno, Hojlund make enough of an impact to force themselves in? I can see De Ligt and one of the wing backs playing.

How long before they decide they don’t like running and throw him under the bus.

There is a difference now... there is a proper structure overseeing this. He will be reporting back to the technical team and sporting directors which players cannot perform the role.

I dont think the players actually threw Ten Hag under the bus... he just didnt coach them well enough.

Nice to have a manager getting stuck in and get their hands dirty. Unlike you know who who would stand on the sidelines letting some BTEC level Go Ahead Eagles manager run things.

Bruno travelled back early due to getting suspended for the match against Croatia, and he's been pretty productive recently, so you imagine he'll be playing. Højlund hasn't been good enough recently to force his way in without the work on the training ground.

Dalot and de Ligt will play due to lack of alternatives.

Whilst Bruno travelled back early, he is not in training yet, every training session matters before the first game.

I can see Bruno forcing himself into the eventual line up but the players in training now will have a advantage for Ipswich.

Mainly Mount and Rashford, I have a feeling they both start, like you say De Ligt and Dalot / Mazroui will come in due to lack of alternatives.

It will be interesting to see if he goes Casemiro Kobbie or will Ugarte come in? Ugarte knows his system but will be back too late.

Garnacho will be the clear loser for now, he will need to work hard to get into the team imo.

Thanks! Our previous managers have emphasised coordinated team play off the ball and during build up, but in the attacking third they have preferred pretty much a freestyle. This is true for Mourinho, Ole and ETH.

Do you think he would drill team patterns and routines in the attacking third? Thats something likes of Rashford have never seen.
I’m sure. I’ve seen it happening and evolving a little more each week.

I'm also getting increasingly good vibes with the passing of each day. Obv too soon to read anything into these little training clips and any social media 'top session today' posts. Sunday will be the first opportunity to see how we're taking shape - quite literally, if we're adopting his SL formation. I'm not expecting 75% possession and a 6-0 win, but I am expecting to see work rate, energy, intensity, desire, mobility, and all the other basics as an absolute minimum.

Hopefully we can get some players back and have a spell with little or no key injuries too.

It does seem like despite all his problems, ETH never really lost the dressing room.

A bit amusing that people are convinced we weren't coached under ETH because they watched a 7 minute video of Amorim. I'm sure you can find identical footage for ETH.

I'm as hopeful and convinced as anyone that Amorim will be great, but those 7 minutes mean nothing

Except I have 0 reason why you’d want Bruno trying to ball carry and do dirty work while Mount, a less productive 10, gets pushed further forward.

Reality is he’s probably rotational/sub level unless he magically finds his Tuchel era purple patch again.
All speculative what Amorim will do, but having Mount and Amad as the two uppermost pressing monsters is exciting to me. Amad has shown he can do it over recent games, hunting the ball aggressively, winning it back and ripping out the net.

Bruno has looked calmer in deeper midfield in the past, with more controlled passing . But I agree, he's probably more effective higher up.

Bruno will definitely start at the weekend. he's the best player at the club and missing one session isn't going to see him out of the team.

Ugarte will probably start as well.

I am very excited about Amorim and have wanted him for a long time at the club but I'm not letting a few videos of training mean anything. I very clearly remember clips of Ten Hag in his first sessions and everyone was saying how great he is.

He isn't missing 1 session though is he? The players from international duty are back Wed/Thursday, so he will miss 50% of the training sessions.

Normally, that would be fine for players to come back in but you're talking about a new system, players need to be drilled in it.

If Amorim thinks Mount has been doing well and likes him there, I could see him starting. I am not saying this is definitely going to be the case, just I can see it happening for the 1 game.

First time I get the feeling our fan base is so broken many aren’t falling for the usual template:
  • Clips of training that show nothing of note (check)
  • News of youngsters getting some time with first team (check)
  • Social media pushing how good things were/how much energy there is. (Check)
The next step is when we win a few games (which I think we definitely will given the next few fixtures look very favourable) the players will milk the camera and come out of the woodwork. We should set up redcaf phrase bingo for the next Bruno or Rashford interview.
  • How clear Amorim’s message is
  • How ‘we are behind’ the manager
  • How we are finding an identity
  • How ‘we are Man United’
  • How he wants to play ‘attacking’ football.
Will wait to see how he navigates the next few months, without being too expectant of miracles. Hope he can amend our slow downward spiral.

+ it also depends in what conditions the players arrive, fatigue or minor injuries matter. That's why a lot coaches are really mad at the early kick off times after international break.

You can already see a distinct shape and style of play being implemented in training, which is mental.

We're going to really have to rely on our fullbacks having great seasons. For what it's worth I think Dalot and Mazraoui will be great wingbacks.

We're going to try and score a lot of cutbacks.
