Ross Barkley

Why couldn't Moyes have brought this lad with him, and not that mop headed buffoon? :(

IIRC Barkley is about as much a fan of Moyes as we are, wouldn't give him a proper chance. When Martinez came along he must've been a godsend for Barkley.

Offer them Fellaini and 20m

Martinez would never play Fellaini let alone buy him. He likes playing football and players that can play football.

I reckon Everton would of sold him as well if you had offered around £35m for him last summer.

The even more annoying thing is there are a good few players at Everton that would have been good signings, either to improve the first XI or because of their potential. Baines, Coleman, Stones, Barkley, Mirallas...any of those 5 would have been good, yet he went for Fellaini. I guess that should have told us what to expect for the rest of the season.

Martinez couldn't believe his luck - he gets rid of Fellaini and replaces him with a better player in McCarthy while trousering £15M.

I think he'll stay one more year. He's seen what happened to Rodwell and i think he'll be a little cautious.

Leave him where he is for a season or two.
By which time Ronaldo will be in his twilight years & Madrid might be taking an interest, possibly ? And what would his fee by then - priced out of United range that's for sure.

We need to get this kid asap, he is a beast.. type of player to build your side round.

What has Barkley got to do with Ronaldo? They play completely different positions. If Barkley was to replace anyone at Real it would be Modric.

With Luke Shaw he should be our transfer target one year ago. Already solid players with megatons of potential.

United was always in a bigger part about collecting best domestic talents. That should never change but Moyes decided to sign Fellaini and he couldn't even figure out how to use him in the new club... *sigh*

There's so much stuff to repair now, it really begs for multiple changes is the squad and Barkley is one of the safest bets for the future.

Fuck him, he's a Liverpool fan
Someone in the match day thread he was a proper evertonian?

Also, how bizarre is it that Moyes saw him from close quarters and bought Fellaini instead of him last summer. I find it pretty nuts. You'd think he'd know the kind of potential Barkley had.

No he isn't

He has thanked Moyes many times and has said Moyes was a big influence on him. He gave him his first chance and stuck by him through his leg break. Some doctors said Barkley may never play again but Moyes still offered him a 2.5 year contract which extended to 4 years. He likes Martinez free football as it allows him to roam and make mistakes but no where has he ever expressed a disliking of Moyes.

I was jesting due to his insane performance against City yesterday. He was head and shoulders the best player on the pitch for a large majority of the match. And about Barkley being a boyhood Evertonian, yeah I've heard the same as well but I'm not sure.

To be fair, after lukaku, he's their most explosive player anyway so it's not surprising how much of a threat he was. And the World Cup is coming.

I really like Barkley. I would be delighted if we got him. He has a great mix of technical skill, athleticism and aggression. We do need drive from midfield IMO.

Oh. Yeah he said it in an interview after his England call-up.

‘I was a bit star-struck when I first joined up but Steven was good to me when I was away. I sat next to him on the coach and he gave me loads of advice. He said the big hitters are going to be looking at me but the main thing for me is to stay with the club I’m at, the team I support and love, which is Everton.’

Do not want! Was on a one man mission to hand Liverpool the trophy yesterday

Not really what we need right now since currently he is not an actual midfielder.

Pretty much my thoughts. He excels when being played behind the striker, has yet to prove he has the ability to be an all round midfielder.

I reckon Everton would of sold him as well if you had offered around £35m for him last summer.

Last summer Barkley was worth no where near 35 million, would have been crazy to buy him for that kind of price, even now I wouldn't pay 35 million for him.

I doubt there's a buy back clause in ours and West Hams deal for Ravel Morrisons....If there was though as some places have reported - a fantasy move would be to buy Morrison back and then offer himself and Cleverley to Everton in return for Barkley! just silly fantasy I know

If Van Gaal doesn`t rate Kagawa and wants to play a Dutch 4-3-3, he makes perfect sense.

Otherwise, he`d have to think Barkley is capable of being succesful deeper in midfield, and for the 35-40 million he`d cost, seems a bit risky!

He should probably just stay at Everton, but they NEED four signings this summer:

(1) a replacement for Distin (yes they have Stones, but you need 3 CB`s, especially with Stones being Coleman`s backup too)
(2) a striker to replace Lukaku
(3) a CM to replace Barry
(4) a winger to start next to Barkley and Mirallas in their attacking

and while I could see Barry coming on a free and Martinez risking a starting spot and lots of squad time at AM or out wide for the returning from injury Oviedo and Pieenar along with McGeady and a loanee, be it Delofeu or maybe he gets one another top Spanish prospect like one of the Madrid pair in Jese or Morata, Dongou or Halilovic from Barcelona (or a free from them with Cuenca and Tello both fitting the bill) or Torres from Atletico, it`s hard to see where they`ll find a striker for cheap or a CB for that matter.

Unless Everton`s owner suddenly start spending, it makes more sense to sell Barkley and use the money elsewhere than keep him.

I think it`s unfair to say Barkley can`t play deeper. Not enough evidence in. He might adapt his game when playing deeper for a few months. At his age, you can`t assume he`s done growing mentally.

He could turn into a fantastic midfielder but, I would not want to spend big money on him until we know for sure he could adapt to a deeper role in midfield. This season his most outstanding qualities have been his long distance shooting, dribbling and pace which are great qualities for any Footballer to have but, does not guarantee he would turn into a great midfielder. I do not know how his ball retention, defensive work and overall positioning would be in midfield.

He was part of the England team who won the Euro U-17s in 2010, beating Spain in the final. Not long after, when he was still a relative unknown, Martin Keown described him as 'one of the best players this country will ever produce'.

And he is looking fantastic. The first midfielder England have had since Gascoigne who is big, strong, can dribble, can shoot and can pass it.

He's one of three English players in the past 10ish years that I fancied to have world-class potential basically as soon as I saw them play. The first was Rooney...the second was Jack fecking Rodwell! I still have no idea what game I was watching that gave me that hunch about Rodwell. Either way, Barkley is looking superb at the moment, and I agree with the posters that have said that he seems a top class CM in the making under the right coaching.

Agree. I think he's got everything he needs to be a quality central midfielder. I personally think that will be his best position once he matures as a player.

I wouldn't advocate us going for him though. The cost would be astronomical. Better off shopping in Spain or Germany where players of similar ability don't get hyped up to ridiculous levels, and therefore cost half as much.

He doesn't look a central midfielder to me. Looks like someone who could do a job there but he'd be better on the tip of a midfield three or as a number 10.

Imagine going to Everton with 28m and coming back with Fellaini instead of Barkley.

Yep. Offering £50m won't change their minds.

I am not saying we will/should do it, buy your point is flawed.

I don't think you'd get him for £50m. I'm fairly certain he'll want to give Europe a go with his boyhood club. If you offered £1 billion you would get him too but realistically is there any chance of you doing that?
