Ross Barkley

I see The Daily Star are linking him with a 38 million move to Liverpool today

I'd be more inclined to believe it if I read it in the Beano.

Haha. Can't they make it more realistic. An Everton fans want to move to Liverpool? I can't imagine how upset Everton fans would be when they see Everton sell Barkley to their biggest rival.

Even if Everton fail to make top 4, I can still see him stay there next season.

Reckon teams will try, but he'll be quite content being in the Europa League with Everton for a season at least. It will be good for him. Hopefully once we've secured CL status again next season, we'll go for him next Summer maybe

Chelsea ARE undoubtedly stronger this season to last. Hazard is better, Willian is a v good signing and defensively they are more solid. Terry has been excellent. Reached CL semi - or is that comp much weaker as well?

City were a mess last season with in-fighting and very inconsistent. They have been stronger this season, no doubt. Much more fluid. Did better in the CL as well.

Arsenal gutless? So exactly the same as last season and the one before that and the one before that and...etc

Spurs poor? But very similar season to last so status quo there.

Liverpool have been very impressive as 93 goals, the best player in this league and 10 straight wins would testify.

Everton are so much better to last season with their new style of play and astute loan signings.

United...well, obviously weaker.

As for your "we have seen this in Europe" comment to show how teams have dropped: in 2012/13 two English teams failed to get out their group. In 2013/14 all four progressed with one team getting to the semi final at least. Facts suggest you're wrong there as well.

There is no doubt that the quality of the top PL teams is a lot higher this year. Standards have risen not dropped. Empirical evidence backs this up.

I can't wait for next season because all I'm reading about is how all these terrible top teams will buy lots if players and be excellent again. It's going to be such a high standard. It's a shame Liverpool have no money, cache or a coach able to adapt as it was getting promising there for a while. The inevitable decline next season may lead to Rodgers being exposed as a one hit wonder who managed a team that scored 93 penalties all of which were freebies from the refs...Now I think about it I'm not sure why Liverpool are bothering. It'll all be for nothing come August.

They struggled badly without McCarthy in the middle last night I thought.

We need a McCarthy type player more than a Barkley imo....

One disadvantage of playing Barkley dreeper is that they lose flair higher up the pitch. But I think he did a surprisingly good job as a central midfielder. If I had to chose between getting Herrera/Rakitic and Barkley, I would chose Barkley.

It was quite evident last summer that we needed a McCarthy type player more than a Fellaini type player too.

He was part of the England team who won the Euro U-17s in 2010, beating Spain in the final. Not long after, when he was still a relative unknown, Martin Keown described him as 'one of the best players this country will ever produce'.

And he is looking fantastic. The first midfielder England have had since Gascoigne who is big, strong, can dribble, can shoot and can pass it.

He's not the finished article but he has all the tools, I think we'll regret it if he goes to City or Chelsea.

We can't play him at number 10, and I want an actual midfielder for our midfield. He's a superb talent, but do we really have the space in the team for him at this point when so much investment is needed everywhere? Let's hope he stays with Everton for a season or two and then we move for him.

I think his future lies as a CM not a #10 and Van Gaal has previous when it comes to overseeing players positional transition.

Is he more of a new 'Bale', than a new Gazza? If that's the case then yes, we have room in our starting side for him, right now, doing the job Welbeck does in the big games, only better & with a more decisive end product.

I say we move for him now & develop him under LVG - what an opportunity for the young lad. You can't tell me he'll learn more under Martinez.

Nowhere near Bale in terms of pace or explosiveness. Different sort of player.

His explosiveness is the best part of his game....

Barkley is nowhere near Bale in pace and explosiveness. I think Barkley could be argued as technically as good, but physically? No chance.

I think this kid is really talented, but he needs a strong and progressive coach to teach him how to play the game. Otherwise he'll turn into an inconsistent but occasionally brilliant mess like Rooney.

Why couldn't Moyes have brought this lad with him, and not that mop headed buffoon? :(

He's put in big performances in big games this season. With a bit more consistency he could be one of the best players in the country.

Oh agreed but is he ahead of Bale, when Bale was Barkley's age? Did you see the lad charge at city today from his own box -he looked every bit a 'Bale' & later, took the ball off Yaya & shrugged him off like he was the older head. Three years under LVG & he could be the real deal.
