Ross Barkley

50m:lol:

I'd rather we concentrate on getting a couple of actual CM's than trying to shoehorn another AM into our midfield.

If Everton are willing to sell Barkley for 50 million in the summer than we should simply snap their hands off and maybe offer a couple of fringe players too....I feel that if we got Barkley then it would instantly exorcise the Pogba demons in the same way CR7 exorcized the Ronaldinho demons in the past

Everything about this is totally mental.

Agree. Barkley may become a superb central midfield player but it is far more likely to happen in the post-Moyes era. Moyes needs to deliver in the next couple of seasons or else I can't see him getting a 4th year in charge; Barkley just confuses the issue. Even if Moyes has £100m to spend each season, he still needs to invest wisely given the number of players that need replacing in the near future. Spending £40-£50m on Barkley just isn't sensible until Moyes has won either the PL or the CL, in which case he'll be sufficiently safe in his job to do whatever he likes.

50m at the moment would be mental to pay for him. We could likely get Gundogan, or seriously make Juve consider selling Vidal with that offer.

Well every last fan on here pissed themselves laughing when anyone mentioned Bale being worth more than 20 Million...Is there seriously someone on here that believes that Everton are going to be a soft touch and part with the new Steven Gerrard for 30 Million quid in the summer so they can buy a couple of new Osmans with the money? Are they feck......... They are going to wait another 18 months or even 30 months from now until Barkley reaches his maximum value when he starts pissing all over opposing defences for fun in the way Scholes and Gerrard were able to......and your talking 40 million quid minimum for a player of that quality and possibly even more considering that City and Chelsea will turn it into a bidding war...just you wait and see

Still, you could get Gundogan for that sort of money, who is currently the better player and plays in a more suitable position.

The situation changes hugely next summer. If Martinez wants to bring in decent players on permanent deals...he may need to sell-to-buy to add to a modest budget.

I'm not fully clued up on Everton's finances but they do tend to make an 8 figure sale every other year.

Obviously they'd be mad to let Barkley leave for a more reflective price. They are entitled to follow the inflated market whilst using British tax and the old 'wonderkid' (well i clearly play FM!) status in their favour.

Its not really anything worth talking about though. At this moment in time Everton look a very good side but it depends on how Martinez manages the transfer window next summer particularly when it comes to filling the void left by Lukaku.

Its no foregone conclusion that he'll leave imo. Not every player does a Rooney or a Gotze.

Very few players ever get sold for even more than £35m and yet every transfer rumour it's:

"He's worth £50!!"

"They won't sell for less than £60!!"

"I reckon it'll take £70m - at least"

What fecking planet to people live on with these figures? It's like a game of numbers porn to some people where whomever can get the biggest erection whilst groping for a wildly outrageous figure wins?

He won't go for £50m let's shut the feck up about that shall we?

Normally I would agree with this, but the dark days of Andy fecking Carroll going for £35m just haunt. You can say that he's the exception (stoopid Dalglish eh?) not the rule, but then Bale went for £85m, our very own Fellaini for £27.5m and whole bunch of overpriced players in the summer make you wonder what is the exception and what is the rule now.

Nobody knows how much X player would be sold for, but what's the harm in a bunch of forum posters throwing numbers around? Nothing.

There's no "harm" if we all started typing using our cocks, the end result would still be equally as fecking annoying though.

It does get a bit ridiculous. I remember a post in the summer saying something to the effect of our having a better shot at signing Messi than Gundogan. I think we're all so afraid of being rejected that we label certain players unattainable just so we don't have to worry about future heartbreak.

Mind you, having just done a search of the Gundogan thread and found nothing to back up what I just said about Messi, I may well have just dreamed that up....Still the point made in my second sentence still stands!

Aha!! Just found it. Here it is (with poster name removed):

for those who mention Gundogan, i think we would have a higher chance of getting Messi and Ronaldo this summer than this guy. Dortmund looks like a well run club which isn't in the weaken yourself for profit business.

Reckon they'll sell barley for around 30-35 million. He might not want to leave yet though.

Champions league football and a maybe better chance of making the world cup squad....perhaps! We'd have to be in pole position here you'd think, but perhaps he wants to stay and help Everton achieve their goals this season.I can't see that he'd feel Everton could remain the club for him, no disrespect but that's how it is.I think he'd be a revelation here with us and I think he will arrive in the near future.A United player waiting to happen.

There's a cereal crop gag in there somewhere but I can't be arsed....

Why would we be in pole position?
They wouldnt sell us baines
pulled our pants down over fellaini
and as everton are known to be short of cash I imagine if they did sell it would be to the highest bidder and I wouldnt be shocked if city and chelsea bid more than us.

I think it's been a while since MEN had any idea what's going on at United. Might be difference under Moyes, who knows.

The MEN reporting we want him in Jan. He's not what we need ffs. We need CM's. Not yet another player who plays best behind the striker.

Stuart Mathieson saying we will bid £50m for him. Brainless madness if true. £50m.

All depends on how good Barkley can become. If he becomes top drawer like Bale or Suarez (but than in another position ofc) that 50 mil won't look so ridiculous anymore. If he doesn't realise that potential the £50m would indeed be brainless madness.

I do think if Barkley would realise his potential he'd be an exceptional player. He has a good footballing brain, he has great technique combined with good athletic qualities and he strikes me as a true professional that lives for his job and has a great attitude and personality on the pitch. All the attributes of a worldclass midfielder in the making, it'd be truely sad to miss out on such a player. Face it if you delay this move, and he realises his potential he might be worth alot more than that £50m and he'd probably end up at a club like Real Madrid, Bayern, Barcelona or even worse City or Chelsea. I feel like Barkley is going to be the next great thing and that he would be the ideal player to lift our midfield back to former glorries. However its very premature and there is alot of risk in making such a move, but when you don't take risks you don't win, definalty not from a position like Manchester United is in, we can't compete with the big dogs for the real star players, yet we want them and we need them, than you have to to buy early on and take chances. But whichever way you look at it, £50m looks very excessive and I doubt it will ever happen.

With the problems we have I don't like the thought of us splashing crazy sums of money, that could instead be used to bring in a top player, on a raw talent with potential.

Having said that, ultimately I want this guy in a red shirt rather than a blue one. I feel the same with Barkley as I did with Rooney. It's not just the excitement about what he could bring to United at the peak of his powers, it's the concern at what he could bring to a rival side for the next 10-15 years if we pass up the opportunity.

Chelski and Arsenal can load up on midfielders; we will load up on no. 10s.

He can just as easy play as a central midfield position and his future might be there both for England and club (at least if he joins us). He has the presence, mobility, strengt, passing ability to play there already, and I feel he could dominate games more if he was to play in a central midfield as a box to box midfielder. He is the player I want us to sign, no one would do our game more good. Play him next to Carrick and he will do so well and increase the tempo of our game. I think he would make us score a lot more goals as he would make us play much more fluid.

50m? Have we downloaded the latest patch for Football Manager? Something is broken.

Imagine Moyes shelling out £77.5m to Everton on Fellaini and Barkley.

Chelsea are stocked with number 10s and in need of CMs almost as much as us.
