In CAM presumably?

I wouldn't mind:

Carrick - Jones
Januzaj - Barkley - Kagawa
Rooney

Overload of CAM's unless we're selling Kagawa imo, plus I'd love to see Januzaj play #10 one day. I know that the aforementioned trio can intercharge and so on but I highly doubt we'd see such formation.

I wouldn't want us to move for him without giving Powell a chance to show what he can do. As such, I don't want us to move for Barkley next summer. Hopefully no other club makes a move for him in the summer.

Not really Rooney, Januzaj and Kagawa can each go wide as and when needed plus we have the fullbacks to provide width. We can never have enough CMs, that's where games are won and lost at top level and has been for the last decade or more.

Yea fair enough but there's still a difference between fixing our actual CM and CAM positions.

Rooney is yet to commit, Kagawa is getting some opportunities but too early to say if that'll translate to him staying long term. Adnan is our best option on the left and arguably on the right so while I do think he'll be our number 10 at some point in the future, I think we have a reliance on him playing wide already.

That said Barkley will cost too much money and City and Chelsea will fight it out for him at top dollar.

Yaya Toure is 31 next year. Cant see him going much longer. City will probably see Barkley as his replacement. That said I thing we have a good chance of signing him.

Will turn into a bidding war between us, Chelsea and City. A war we won't be winning.

If a players wants to only join club X then it changes thing. Nobody thought we had any chance of RVP.

If he was available we'd be foolish to miss out.

There's a real chance that Everton could finish in the top 4 and a chance we won't which means Barkley won't be going anywhere anytime soon....but if there's one player that has the potential to be the missing link to our jigsaw and who could be our version of Gerrard in central midfield then it's Barkley...He's going to be awesome and things would be looking rosy if we ever got lucky enough to land him

But would he have insisted on joining us if we were in the current situation with moyes taking over? Things are different now

Yeah, I think it was fairly obvious RVP really wanted to work with SAF. Since Barkley + Moyes have worked together though and have a decent relationship it wouldn't be surprising if he chose you if he leaves. Who knows who Chelsea/City will have as their managers but if Mourinho is still with Chelsea then that would be tempting too.

He's unbelievably over-rated.

Good player, good potential, might become the real deal. United player right this second? Nah.

I don't think so. He's miles away from the finished article but his potential is so much greater than just "good".

Same was said about Pogba when he was playing for our reserves.....Barkley most certainly is not over-rated....anyone that would claim he is over rated is a bit clueless you'd have to say.....Barkley will not show what he can do for another couple of years as he is nowhere near his potential but all the signs are there of a world class midfielder in the making

Where is Barkley at with his contract? How long left on his current deal? I know they are trying to get him to sign an extension. He will be some player in 18 months time. He's bloody good now.Let's not miss out if it's possible, and with Moyes in charge we'd surely be atn the front of any cue!

He's better than all our midfielders so why wouldn't he be a united player this second?

Speculation, we've never see him play with any real responsibility and he certainly wouldn't get a game in the hole for us.

Maybe better than good, but I can see this one going the way as Jack Wilshere, built up to the sun and then knocked down.

Did you watch the Arsenal and Liverpool games? Two of the best teams in the league this year and he was one of the best players on the pitch in both.

Playing without any real responsibility is rubbish too, he's our main creative outlet.

What's his teamwork like and defensive game? He does have the physicality to fit a two man midfield...would he be wasted there?

I think he could choose us, but Everton are more likely to choose the money and manage to convince him to do the best by them, leaving to the highest bidder as long as he's going to play and not be on the bench

He can pass he can shoot, he tracks back, surges forward, always wants the ball, is strong and quick, what's not to like

Work rate is very good, as is our whole side though, and will be working to the end of the game continuously. His defensive game would probably need a little bit of work but his whole general game is suited to a CM position. He monitors most areas of the pitch and likes to play little triangle passes with players to open up space for others or himself. His passing game is highly expansive and doesn't need much work at all, rather his decision making in some passes which does. If he dropped deeper he'd be able to spread the play out to the wing like you were used to seeing Scholes doing, but he'd be able to drive into the box also. He's just a brilliant footballer that would excel as a an AM or CM imo.

Cheers SW. He's a rarity with that technical ability and physique. It's doing him the world of good being first-choice. Just wondered about this due to the Ballack comparisons.

What's the Everton fans opinion on his future SW? I know its all hypothetical but do EFC fans see him as someone to chase the cash?

Ps. This is on proviso you don't make top 4 cause if you do, hes going nowhere no matter what the money

Exactly. Such an exciting talent, regardless where his club future lies.

I don't understand anyone that isn't excited by him. Some people just don't want to see it in some people it seems.

He's a local lad and Everton are his team. Once a blue always a blue... ;)

That he's ours and he will continue to be ours and anyone who wants to take him off our hands will need to pay a very big sum to take him. I don't think he is the type who would, he seems very happy here and is enjoying his football and we as a club (Moyes, Martinez and co.) give him a lot to be thankful for imo. I know that doesn't count a lot in modern day football but he strikes me as a humble person in interviews.

He also posted "believe none of what you hear & half of what you see" on twitter the other day so i'm not sure if that is him saying don't listen to speculation of him leaving or not. Probably is.

Could develop into a better version of Yaya Toure, surey City are going to be interested? But that shouldn't put us off, if there's a player who would be a good replacement for the great Paul Scholes its him. Go on Moyes, get it done.

Cheers. Its a strange one. With Rooney, i always thought hed end up at Utd if that makes sense? He just looked like a Utd player through and through. With barkley, he has a lot of the same qualities but im not sure i see him as a stick on Utd player.

I don't see City entering the race for him but i do think Chelsea will go for him in a big way.

Anyway, you've got a cracking player SW. Enjoy it

What I like about him most is his ball retention in tight areas. Its like watching one if them highly technical spanish midfielders.

This.

At first I thought he was all power and drive but he's technically brilliant. I would be delighted if Moyes spent big on him, particularly if Rooney goes or moves right uptop. He's got it all.

He will easily be worth £30-40 million - and will boss any midfield in the Premier League for 10 years

The bottom line is I can't see him going to any of the other english teams bar us in terms of how he'd fit in.. he has a ruggedness and directness to his game which would only flourish at our club. I thought the same about Gareth Bale and he ended up at Madrid, but Barkley isn't a player who top european clubs need.. hence why I think as long as Januzaj is happy to be on the wing, or if Barkley can adapt to CM in a 3 man midfield or even 2 man in certain games.. I'd say it is pretty certain he'll end up here one day.

...and then Ed would buy the bank.

He's another one of those players who has the technical ability to play anywhere, within reason. Don't know about anyone else, but I love to see players who have that level of confidence and belief in their own ability, and he has buckets of it. Always looking to take the ball anywhere on the field, and that free-kick summed him up. Doesn't even practise set pieces but he is curling one past the keeper to win his team a game away from home. He just has a certain attitude about him that will mark him in great stead for the future. He's certainly been influencing games, but my only doubt surrounding him was whether he has it in him to start winning them games, and he pretty much put that to bed yesterday.

As for his best position, as I say, he could easily play anywhere in midfield. I, personally, believe that his best position is central-midfield, although you can't fault his contribution playing off Lakaku. I haven't seen enough of him coming through the ranks to know what he is like defensively, but I would assume that his positional play would need looking at if he he were going to play deeper. That said, his range of passing and attitude would be ideal for the position in my opinion.

I'd love to see how he would progress at United with the senior players we have here.
