Ross Barkley

I've never seen Gibson run from his own box past 4 or 5 players to the other box before winning a corner before. I would say that he is more raw than a young Rooney or Wilshere but they were able to play in the first team at a younger age for a more consistent basis. He has had to take a longer route due to horrible unfortunate injury, but i think that he is one of the most exciting talents i have seen since Rooney. Wilshere is the best talent right now but i don't find him exciting. i just find him an efficient player capable of class and bite (That's my view of his style) whereas i think that Barkley is a much more explosive player who will sometimes make the wrong decision (like Rooney) but you end up forgetting about it due to how good they are.

On the face of it and without having seen a massive amount of him, there seems to be very few attributes he does not possess.

I agree Barkley would be a great addition for us. I do think if we were going to sign any Everton players it would have been done by now..

Rio specifically mentioned Barkley and his goal in his FB status update! It.Is.On!!

The leg break was about three years ago. Like I said, not what we need right now.

Indeed it was, but he needed to work hard and bulk up due to that injury, and it coming at a crucial point in his development. He needed that loan in the Championship, it did him the world of good. I agree that he isn't what you need right now, it was the sick note comment that i found odd.

I just don't rate fellaini as a defensive player at all. Apart from getting in the way he seems to lack defensive instincts completely. He is underrated as an attacking force but quite poor in many aspects of the central midfield role. I hope we don't buy him.

As far as things go in this window, we're not after him, at all.

Moyes may rate him, highly but his choice was to pursue Cesc's deal which was far more into United's real ambitions.

I thought Fellaini was one of the best players in that game today, he work and positioning in front of the back 4 was very good. He looked calm and composed and his passing was good throughout the game. I hope we do buy him.

Are Everton fans as excited about Barkley as they were about Rooney?

A lot of us are, yes.

@StatsEverton: Ross Barkley 4 attempts 1 Goal 2 On 1 Off Target Made 51/53 passes 96% Completion Rate Made 23/24 passes in attacking 3rd and 4/5 Take-ons

They're excited as much, as we're excited about Januzaj.

Both players looks like the most promising talents for their club but I think Everton fans may be predicting his departure, sooner or later.

Didn't realise how splendidly talented Barkley was until today. He will thrive under Bobby Martinez methinks.

I think that term should be outlawed from the Caf now. It evokes far too many broken dreams with anyone connected to Transfer Forum muppetry & not to mention previous dreams of equalling the Treble & bettering it with the Quadruple, (better known as the Quad) in recent seasons...

As regard to Rio, its good to see footballers actually behaving like football fans, we don't see enough of it. Gone are the days where footballers used to drink in the locals with the fans etc.. socialising more to the point. Now they seem to regard themselves as superstars & beyond giving anyone the time of day unless its profile-enhancing.

Rio even said it himself recently, that he & the United lads debate transfer windows just like normal blokes in the pub do. Its been said many times that a lot footballers don't even watch or follow football, they see it as a career & not much else, which I find absolutely sickening.

Harry Kewell's wife blew the lid on that cnut on that "I'm a celebrity get me outta here.." shite, when she said that he never watch's football, nor seems to give a shit about it either, apart from how he's playin etc..

Its a whole different debate of course, but I find it absurd that many footballers don't see playin football for a highly-paid living as a miracle, when u think back to the day-dreaming childhood years with jumpers for goalposts etc..

Get the feckers back cleanin boots & scrubbing bogs & showers while they're at it!

Like that post of yours, RHD. Although I think most of United players live and die with football.

He is a good player but lacks discipline. And he let whittaker get past him far too easily for their first goal. Badly at fault there.

So often when I watch everton he seems lazy off the ball. He would have to sort that out if he wants to be a top player.

He did look like the type of player we could use, and like he could be finally about to put all his attributes together (well perhaps 'finally' is the wrong word).

I'd like to see him play a season in the premier league. For those talking up Powell and making Gibson comparisons with Barkley, I must say that if anything - Powell looks more like Gibson than Barkley does if anything.

Really like the look of him. Doesn't really look like a centre mid to me though.

I think he can play there as a box to box sort of midfielder, he has the strength, drive and determination to do so. Currently he gives the ball away at times but that's due to inexperience and will come with age. His pass completion yesterday was something like 96% though and I think around half of them were forward passes so he has it in him if a manager asks him to play there.

If we can't get an established player in to start in midfield I wonder if Moyes would be tempted to throw some money at Everton for him towards the end of the window.

Like others have said, surely we've got a similar talent here in Powell that we want to develop? We need a ready made midfielder for the time being.

True. It depends how highly we view his talent. If he is seen as a nailed on top drawer player then the make-up of our current squad will be deemed irrelevant I think. We have history of this with Rooney and Jones, however the difference in those two cases was that our hand was forced by a bid from another club.

I imagine if Moyes wants him then he'll be happy to see him at Everton for another year or two, so long as nobody else comes in and makes us bid. Nobody will know him better than Moyes so we'll be in the box seat.

Silent would Everton snatch Moyes arm off with a 20 million offer?

I'm not sure. I would really hope that we wouldn't due to him being a top talent but they might see the money as a way of getting someone like McCarthy and another player to strengthen the squad.

This definitely isn't the right time for us to be buying him. As good as he might be he still wouldn't get enough game time for us, he should definitely stay at Everton for at least one more year.

Powell needs to be considered. We'd probably prefer someone a bit more experienced to give us time to develop the likes of Powell, as opposed to direct competition for the future that may stifle his development.

Would it matter if Barkley was viewed as significantly better than Powell? Or is this a sort of 'well he was here first', sort of thing?

If we thought Powell wasn't good enough, then it'd make sense. However, given that Powell is still here and Fergie called him a 'guaranteed first team player', I'm guessing that isn't the case. It should also be pointed out that the position Barkley played was more in line with what Januzaj plays.

I'm not saying we shouldn't sign Barkley, but I think consideration would always be given to our own youngsters.

He's a different player to what he looked like when he first burst on to the scene.. was such a technically gifted dribbler but he's had a growth spurt and looks a lot more clumsy.. he looks a much more English player now which is a bad thing but he's still got that Gerrard type drive to be fair and more flair than your average English mid. Needs more time under Martinez imo to further his development rather than come here.
