Ross Barkley

I could only manage to listen to the match on the radio here in Northern California, but the British announcers calling the game raved about his performance today.

Everton will probably hold onto him for a couple more seasons to maximize his market value....I think there will be a bidding war for him then....he wouldnt be a bad signing at all for us one day...we definitely could use him more than city and chelsea....but with powell and cleverley coming through fergie may resist temptation although powell and cleverley seem maybe a little lightweight to play together!

Powell is definitely not lightweight! He's a big unit.

Barkley looks like he could be a player but he needs games. Reckon it could be another year before he leaves... especially if Everton sneak champions league football

He'll stay for another season regardless and so he should too. Hopefully he'll see more regular first team action next season though.

Watched one of Powell's early games for us, the other day and he's definitely bulked up a fair bit since then.

A few sources speculating that SAF was at the emirates to scout Barkley but I'm pretty sure it's just because we have Arsenal in a couple games time.

First time I've seen him play a full game in quite some time. I was impressed, if he gets the game time he certainly has a bright future.

It's telling for his potential though that when he has played for us and been given significant game time he has impressed.

I only saw the second half but I thought he was wasteful and arrogant which he's been pretty much every time I've seen him this year. Obviously a talent but he's very raw. Much more so than Rooney was at 17 never mind 19.

On a side note, how did Fellaini play in the deeper CM role? I only saw the 2nd half but thought he was anonymous. Gibson outshone him.

He was ok. Nothing special. Gibson blotted his copy-book with some sloppy play in the last 10-15 minutes, when he visibly tired, but agree that he probably played better than Fellaini over all.

Couldn't work out why Moyes didn't play Fellaini in the same role he did against us. He could have bitch-slapped Arsenal's short-arse defenders. So annoying the way he puts in an absolutely world class performance every time we play Everton and so rarely turns up against our rivals.

Has scholesy hacked your account?

I couldn't think of a better way to phrase it. It's that kind of inexperience that comes from him obviously being bigger and faster than almost every other kid in his age group so he just tries to bulldoze past players all the time. Takes a lot of touches and takes a lot of risks in silly positions and tends to run down a lot of blind alleys. Basically whenever I see him he makes a lot of stupid decisions.

Yeah, he was a bit greedy at times. Looks like a talent though. That goal which went a few inches wide would have been sensational. Just as good as the one that launched Rooney's career against the same opposition.

Yeah you couldn't help feeling a bit of déjà vu there. He's definitely an explosive talent but I'm a bit surprised how little he's progressed since looking just as impressive in the first league game of the season last year. Obviously he's still just 19 and has years of development left in him but I thought he'd have been getting regular games like Wilshere by now. That sort of immaturity is the only thing holding him back from what I've seen.

Sounds like an exciting Brazilian prospect.

Could be right but considering most fans were saying tunnicliffe was better than pogba from what they had seen and that macheda was far superior to welbeck and that evans was superior to pique and many other comments like that.....then I will take any comments about barkley with a pinch of salt until we see him get a good run in the everton first team

1) Nobody, I think in the history of anything ever, has said Tunnicliffe was ever even close to as good as Pogba
2) It was a few idiots with more mouth than sense who were claiming that Macheda > Welbeck
3) Evans IS superior to Pique.

Top, top post...

I heard many fans saying they thought tunnicliffe was the bigger talent...only an absolute gimp would disagree on this

Evans is better than pique? I'd say he is not far off but I doubt Evans would be an automatic selection in the Spanish national side like Pique is..Pique has lost form a few times but when on form is class....only a Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime would say that Evans would walk into the Spanish national team

Huh ? Replace Pique and Evans and he gets in easy to their national team.

Their other CB is Ramos right now, after that ??????

The thing the impresses me most is how much he's developed physically. Suppose the championship had a role in that. The ability has always been there.

His physique has changed a lot in the last 2 seasons, listed at 6'2" now.
He looks more 'rangey'.

No links yet? Lazy journalists!

I wonder will Evertons new manager give him any more chances than Moyes. Id imagine we'll see more of him in their first team given his development this season.

I always feel like I'm missing something with this lad. Maybe I just haven't seen the right performances from him, but he doesn't look that special to me. Wasn't his performance against Arsenal supposed to be one of his best? Looked to me like he spent most of it trying to get the ball under control.

He started against us last season too and had a stinker. I also remember him coming up against Pogba and Morrison in the reserves and being completely outclassed and outplayed.

Just Pogba, Morison sulked on the bench that game.

His loan to Sheff Wed made a huge difference for him, he was consistently one of their better players for the first half of their season.

Yeah you're probably right there. I think that was one of Pogbas best performances that season.

When Barkley first came in and played preseason for Everton, he looked like a top talent. Maybe I've just seen him on off days, though I've not seen a lot of him anyway.

Very good performance today. It's clear to everyone and their mother that he is a top top talent.

His goal today on his weaker foot:

We should spend the 20m or so on this kid. Thats how we've always done our transfer business and built our teams, with young players who we can mold.
