Ross Barkley | Stays at Everton

Is Jesse lingard a better player than Barkley? Does lingard have a higher ceiling? I think Barkley could be a very good player if he's developed right, I know he's not the same player as Jesse but I think he has the making of a more dangerous player imo

My attitude on transfers is always 'Are they better than what we have?'

Barkley is. He's better than Miki, Lingard, Fellaini. Plus all of our squad options.

I'd take him. He'll never again cost less than he will this summer. Very talented footballer with resale value if he fails.

To qualify all of this, I expect him to be sold for no more than £20-25m. Due to his contract expiry.

I can see it now. We have potentially a great squad, once we add a couple more great players, that may carry us back to glory. We buy Barkley who will be one of the few English players on the field then the media start saying how great he is and is the future of English football.
No thank you. I would prefer that we get a really good defensive midfielder so as to allow Pogba to play further forward where I think he will be immense.
I don't think anyone would prefer Barkley over Pogba as an attacking or central midfielder so why get him and I don't think he would be satisfied as being a squad player, starting in only cup matches in place of Pogba.

Doubtful he is on this board's radar and there are other pressing needs but at the fee he's likely to go for, I'd take a punt

I thought he was set to become an outstanding player when he came through at Everton, but for whatever reason he's stalled. If Mourinho thinks he can get the best of him it could be a good purchase at a low enough price.

Failed to live up to the early hype. We've just offloaded Januzai, why buy another.

He can sit on the bench at a top six club or move sideways to a team like West Ham, they are the only options I can see. I think moving to Newcastle would be a great for Barkley, somewhere where he is the best player on the team and guaranteed to start every game like Sigurdsson at Swansea.

I presume he knows where he's going and his agent has already agreed in principle a contract with the new club.

He's not going to reject the new Everton contract without knowing he has something better to go to

There is absolutely no chance what so ever that anybody is getting him for 10-15 million even with the current circumstances.

Koeman has said he is 100% leaving and that no one has come in for him. He has 1 year left on his contract and isn't with the squad because of 'injury'..

No messing around with Koenan - Barkley isn't wanted now. he will go for a bargain.

He may go for cheaper than they wanted but there's no chance they sell him for 10-15 million in this market even with those circumstances. It's crazy to even think for one moment that would happen.

So, to improve over Everton, he needs to go to one of last season's top six. I highly doubt that club would be Liverpool and I think United would target a more defensive midfielder player firstly. He's not starting over Alli at Spurs and I don't think both will play together - it would be like Gerrard & Lampard for England all over again IMO.

Arsenal seem well stocked in that kind of area, although if they were to sell Oxlade-Chamberlain they'd probably want to bring in another more attacking, English midfield player and it would still look like a 'marquee' signing of sorts for Arsenal. Would he really be first choice though? Man City need midfield players and could also do with adding some more British influence, but again I'd question if he would be starting every week? Almost certainly not if Pep persists with the 4141. However, he could probably get more money to sit on the bench more often by going to City.

That leaves Chelsea, which is possible, but it's going to be a lot of rotation between Kante, Bakayoko, Fabregas and Barkley - so, again, guaranteed less playing time.

Point is, Barkley is a squad player at any of these teams and would probably warrant a £35-40m price tag for the above teams. Is it worth it?

Ross Barkley is better than Henrikh Mkhitaryan? Nah.

Terrible WUM attempt.

Thats exactly my point. You have far superior players in his position(Some of the best in the league imo), how will he get a new challenge while sitting on the bench?

It makes no sense from his POV

But we don't know his POV. He may have a lot of self-belief - enough to believe that he will break into the Spurs first XI.

Ross Barkley? Just get Jose his Perisic and Matic for goodness sake. He'll deliver the EPL.

He hasn't even proven himself at Everton, and people think he will be good enough for us?

He's got a small mentality and thinks he's better than he is. Can't see us being interested personally.

Absolutely. Not the guy that played an astonishing season at Dortmund. But the one we have, yes. He's every bit as inconsistent and even his best hasn't been as good as Barkleys.

I do believe he can replicate his Dortmund form in the Premier League. Though maybe not under a manager like Jose.

I must have missed Barkley's best. Can you point me in the general direction? To my knowledge he was a promising youngster whose career has stalled. Regressed some will argue.

I would take Mkhitaryan over Barkley every day of the week. I imagine most would.

Worry about his attitude, we have fellaini and lingard in our squad though, so think he can offer something more/different than them

I believe if Barkley comes to Spurs it is with the long term view of replacing Dembele, who is probably nearing the end of his effective playing career due to injuries. Barkley would like be a squad/rotation player at first and working to take over a deeper role as his career advances.

If he's ok with that, then I'm ok with him at Spurs. If he thinks he's coming in to take Dele or Eriksen's place, then ... lol, no.

Another no.10 when we need a proper winger and defensive mid. We have other priorities.

At best Barkley would be a squad player, we don't need anymore squad players we need players who will come in AND improve the starting eleven, so far we have merely papered over the cracks of losing Zlatan and Rojo

Good player. Will end up at Spurs.

If Spurs is his only option, he might as well wait one more year. He will get one last chance to raise his performance to a level attracting interest from bigger clubs. Pochettino is a great coach and will contribute a lot to his development, but so is Koeman. If he does not manage to improve, I'm sure Levy will still be in for him at a free transfer next year.
